Song Xiaozhu froze and thought, That works too!
The notification voice had clearly heard her thoughts, so it repeated what it had just said.
Song Xiaozhu seized the chance to ask, "What's the current success rate?"
The notification voice only replied, "The current success rate is low."
Song Xiaozhu asked again, "How much will spending one Quantum Coin increase the success rate?"
The notification voice said, "Ten percent."
Song Xiaozhu thought for a while. She currently had four Quantum Coins. After deducting the two needed to make the little box, she had two left.
If one coin raised it by ten percent, two would mean twenty percent.
Looking again at the information on the recipe, she had most likely triggered the lowest success rate this time: 60%.
With her "unlucky player" constitution, that 60% was enough to crush her.
Four extra Quantum Coins would guarantee successful synthesis...
But she was poor.
Tsk...
In a rush of excitement, Song Xiaozhu had already let her thoughts slip: Two coins. All in!
By the time she came to her senses, she realized her mind had been faster than her mouth. White mist had already enveloped the raw materials, and synthesis had begun.
Song Xiaozhu: "..."
How had she never noticed she had a gambling addict streak!
It was too late for regrets. Synthesis was already underway.
It shouldn't fail, right?
I've forced the success rate up by a whole 20%.
If this fails...
I really will be completely broke!
Song Xiaozhu's heart pounded, and sweat seeped from her palms...
This little box was too crucial. If it failed, her entire plan would be pushed back a long way...
Then she would have to stumble her way through the Growth Quest first before she could get the Quantum Coins to synthesize the little box again...
Song Xiaozhu held her breath and stared wide-eyed at the white mist. As it began to dissipate, the notification voice sounded, unruffled:
"Synthesis successful. Obtained 'Crude Storage Box' ×1; "Evaluation: a crudely made storage box. Must be attached to the Workbench for use; "Usage effect: can store 'synthesized items.'" "Only two storage boxes can be installed at the current level. Install?"
Song Xiaozhu let out a long breath of relief, even her inner voice trembling a little: Install.
The little box was attached to the left side of the Workbench too, sitting beside box number one, with the pair fitting neatly along the Workbench's left edge.
Though both little boxes were roughly made and far from refined, the more Song Xiaozhu looked at them, the more she liked them. She could not resist touching them again and again.
With ten slots, she had enough for now. Even water and simple meals could each occupy a slot. Ten portions would be enough to feed her and Sister Shuyu for two days.
Seeing that she had exhausted all her supplies, Song Xiaozhu worked even harder at synthesizing [raw material]. Without realizing it, she gradually ventured deeper into the tree farm.
Sparse weeds grew beneath the tall trees.
In all her time on Garbage Mountain, Song Xiaozhu had never actually seen "grass." These plants, so common in her world, were nearly extinct in this heavily polluted soil.
The tree farm's soil could even support trees, so tenacious weeds were all the less of a problem.
Song Xiaozhu spotted the swaying foxtail grass at a glance...
At first, she felt an overwhelming familiarity, the comfort of meeting an "old compatriot" in another world. Then, suddenly, inspiration struck...
Wasn't foxtail grass a medicinal herb?
As an "intellectual" of the internet age, Song Xiaozhu knew all sorts of random things.
It seemed...
According to the Compendium of Materia Medica, foxtail grass could clear the liver and brighten the eyes, reduce fever, and dispel dampness...
Then could this stuff be used to synthesize [medicinal raw material]?!
Chapter 20
Either way, there was no harm in trying.
Song Xiaozhu was very interested in [medicinal raw material].
Her body was in poor condition. She had originally been a pampered young lady, and after ending up on Garbage Mountain, everything she ate and drank, and even the air she breathed, was highly polluted.
People born on Garbage Mountain had at least some resistance, but Li Siyuan's body had none whatsoever.
Over the past week or so, Song Xiaozhu's health had deteriorated by the day. It was not just her skin; her throat was constantly itchy and dry, and her chest felt tight at night. The most torturous part was her stomach and intestines...
The occasional abdominal cramps left her in unbearable agony.
The items synthesized by the Workbench had something decidedly supernatural about them.
From tools to food and even the randomly generated candy, none were ordinary items. Perhaps it could also synthesize all sorts of "miracle medicines."
The level-one recipes only included [medicinal raw material]. She would probably need to reach level two to synthesize the corresponding medicines.
Song Xiaozhu was certain there would be medicine-related recipes at level two. Otherwise, the Workbench would not have provided [medicinal raw material] at level one.
It was like a prelude, or preparation in advance.
The thought that level two might offer better, more useful recipes made Song Xiaozhu even more impatient to repair the Synthesizer.
What medicine recipes would there be?
This "Synthesizer" had a very game-like style. Maybe it would have things like "Wound Salve," "Blood-Circulating Powder," or "Deer Antler Pills"?
Ahem. Hopefully, they'll only need [medicinal raw material] to synthesize.
Song Xiaozhu dug into the ground with her axe and uprooted several nearby clumps of foxtail grass.
She was not sure which part of the foxtail grass was used medicinally, so she simply put all of it onto the Workbench, from top to bottom, leaving nothing out.
After she selected the [medicinal raw material] recipe, white mist enveloped the dirt-covered foxtail grass...
"Synthesis failed."
With the level-one "unlucky player" label over her head, Song Xiaozhu had long since grown accustomed to this.
The success rate for [medicinal raw material] was 1%-99%. It would have been a miracle if she succeeded on her first attempt.
As long as it can be synthesized.
That meant foxtail grass met the requirements and did indeed count as medicine.
Song Xiaozhu kept at it, only stopping for the time being after ten straight failures.
Ten failures were nothing. Back on Garbage Mountain, she had even earned the unlucky player achievement of failing to synthesize [raw stone material] a hundred times in a row...
