Zhou Wenfei
"Well, my child..."
The middle-aged man seemed somewhat ill at ease as he explained what had happened.
It turned out that his child had been abducted long ago, and he had been searching for the child all these years.
His family had once been quite wealthy, but this ordeal had reduced them to poverty.
Even so, he had not given up looking for his child.
Yesterday, his search had brought him to a village near Cloudwater City, where he wanted to confirm whether a child there was his.
Unfortunately, the family had driven him away. He was an outsider, while they had an entire village behind them.
After some thought, he had come here to seek help.
Hearing this, the officer on duty glanced at the man before him and found his information in their network.
His child had been entered into the anti-trafficking DNA database ten years ago, but there had still been no progress.
The man had never given up looking for his child and had been wandering from place to place all this time.
After hearing his account, several officers discussed it, then immediately drove him over.
Before long, the middle-aged man, Zhou Wenfei, returned to the village.
When he saw a child ahead of him, he could not stop trembling. He felt that perhaps this child was his.
The child's family soon came out as well. Seeing the situation, they appeared extremely anxious and took a very forceful stance, bringing the child inside and refusing to let any of them see the child.
At this, Zhou Wenfei grew so desperate that tears fell from his eyes. "Please, I'm begging you. Just let me have a test done. I'll get down on my knees."
Zhou Wenfei was so anxious that even his lips trembled. After searching for so long, this was the only child he had found who bore such a strong resemblance to his own. He hoped they would at least let him have a test done.
Seeing this, the officers beside him could only patiently try to reason with the family.
Finally, after spending most of the day on it, they collected some samples from the child.
The family flatly refused to let them take the child away, so for now, they could only have the test done first.
Soon, the group drove to the hospital.
After signing the paperwork, Zhou Wenfei began an agonizing wait.
He prayed, yet he was also worried. Until the results came out, he had no idea what they would be.
Finally, after a day's wait, Zhou Wenfei received the test results.
When he saw the words "does not support" written on it, his hands trembled, his face filled with despair and anguish.
Seeing this, Liang Lijian beside him could not help sighing.
"Captain Liang, I feel so sorry for him."
Zhou Yinghuan could hardly bear to watch and spoke softly from beside him.
He had spoken with the man yesterday and learned that he had sold off his family property to painstakingly search for his son.
Every day, he ate in the wind and slept beneath the open sky, traveling everywhere with a banner. Even outsiders could imagine how grueling those hardships were.
Yet he had persisted all this time, solely to find his child.
Thinking of all this, even a grown man like him felt his heart ache terribly.
"Ah..."
Hearing this, Liang Lijian let out a sigh.
Huaxia was vast and populous, and much of the information from when the man's child had been abducted was missing, making the search even harder.
Who knew how many cases like this were piled up in their archives?
"Thank you. I'm truly sorry for troubling you to come all this way with me."
Zhou Wenfei stood there, utterly dispirited, for a long while before approaching Liang Lijian and Zhou Yinghuan and bowing deeply to thank them.
Seeing this, the two hurriedly gestured for him not to do that.
After thanking them, Zhou Wenfei prepared to set out once more in search of his son.
Seeing this, a thought stirred in Zhou Yinghuan's mind. "Boss, wasn't that Taoist at Cloud-Stilling Temple incredibly capable? He could divine things by counting on his fingers. Why not have him go ask for a divination?"
The man had found all seven criminals they had offered rewards for.
By rights, he was extremely good at finding people.
If they had him perform a divination...
Perhaps he could find the child?
"What kind of joke is that? We're police officers. How can we tell someone to use a method like that?"
Liang Lijian's expression immediately changed when he heard this, and he reprimanded Zhou Yinghuan.
If word of something like this got out, he would definitely face disciplinary action.
Zhou Yinghuan froze for a moment at his words, then hurriedly shut his mouth.
Watching Zhou Wenfei about to mount his motorcycle and leave, Liang Lijian hesitated, then gritted his teeth and hurried after him.
"Mr. Zhou, what I'm about to say is purely in my personal capacity. It has nothing to do with my position."
Zhou Wenfei was somewhat puzzled when Liang Lijian called him back, and these words left him even more bewildered.
"Please, go ahead."
Zhou Wenfei did not know what he wanted to say, but he remained extremely polite.
"Well, there's a Taoist temple on Frost Crimson Peak called Cloud-Stilling Temple. One of the Taoist priests there is quite good at fortune-telling. I think you could perhaps give it a try. When you see him, mention my name and see whether he'll do me the favor of performing a divination for you."
Looking at the middle-aged man's careworn face, he thought of the hardships the man had suffered throughout his search for his child.
Liang Lijian could only grit his teeth and point him toward another avenue.
He did not know whether that Taoist could really find Zhou Wenfei's child, but even now, he still had not figured it out.
How had the man found those seven criminals back then?
So, after some thought, he felt that perhaps Zhou Wenfei could give it a try.
Back then, he had personally climbed the mountain and even invited other reporters along. He thought Fang Weiyan might take that into consideration and perform a divination for Zhou Wenfei.
"All right. Thank you."
Zhou Wenfei found this somewhat unbelievable, but whether he believed what the man said or not, he still thanked him.
Then Zhou Wenfei rode away on his motorcycle.
On the road, Zhou Wenfei thought about Liang Lijian's words. Given the man's position, surely he would not deceive him.
Gritting his teeth, Zhou Wenfei checked his navigation, then turned around and headed straight for Frost Crimson Peak.
Soon, he arrived at the foot of the mountain. After asking around and confirming that the Taoist temple was on the mountain, Zhou Wenfei headed straight up.
At that moment, many people were heading up the mountain, all talking about Cloud-Stilling Temple.
They said things like how the wishing pool at Cloud-Stilling Temple really worked, and how, after visiting once, they had genuinely felt much luckier upon returning.
There were also remarks about how extraordinary the Taoist at Cloud-Stilling Temple was.
Hearing these words gave Zhou Wenfei considerably more confidence. He thought that perhaps the Taoist at this temple really could help him find his child?
