Asura, you stepped on my friend.
"It feels like I haven't had a day like this in ages." Yu Qingyi rested her chin on her hand, staring intently at Ye Jiang Ye Jiang, as if she couldn't get enough of her. She didn't react when Ye Jiang reached for her wine glass, but only stopped her when Ye Jiang took the glass and was about to empty the remaining wine. "No, Jiangjiang, don't drink your alcohol..."
The words that had been reflexively uttered caught in her throat, and Yu Qingyi's expression became somewhat subtle for a moment, as if she had remembered something.
"What?" Ye Jiang asked casually, sniffing the liquid in the glass, intending to try it; she had never drunk anything like this before.
"It's nothing." Yu Qingyi snapped out of her daze, deftly took the cup from Ye Jiang's hand, and drank it all in one gulp.
She shook her head and giggled, "I think I'm drunk."
After saying that, she lay down on the table, closed her eyes, and pretended to be asleep. Ye Jiang patted her arm to tell her not to sleep there, but she suddenly opened her eyes, grabbed Ye Jiang's hand and held it tightly, then closed her eyes again with a satisfied and happy smile on her face.
She held onto Ye Jiang's hand tightly, as if she were grasping something precious, knowing that letting go would mean losing something.
The Xingyi Technology competition officially ended after the awards ceremony, but discussions about it remained heated. Ye Jiang, thinking that with her wallet fuller, it was time to put buying a house on the agenda, went out to look at houses but ended up being watched instead. Now she was a celebrity, surrounded by onlookers wherever she went. The gazes on her weren't malicious, but they were somewhat irritating. After going out twice, she didn't like interacting with people anymore, and instead asked Dong Zhen to help her find and look for houses. She herself braved the wind and rain, running all over the city, looking for people, looking for Invisible Man, who hadn't shown up for a long time.
On the other hand, Dong Zhen old and has a truly unreliable personality. She can't bring back any good housing information, but she's constantly bombarded with strange and unusual things. This day, Dong Zhen another...
He returned looking mysterious, and Ye Jiang could tell from his expression that there was no news about the house. With a blank face, she asked him, "What do you want me to see this time?"
The boy mysteriously extended one of his claws. Ye Jiang saw nothing in his hand and a question arose in her mind. The boy then showed the back of his hand, displaying the Blood Moon symbol on it.
"I've observed it for several days, and the Blood Moon mark is still there. It's not a fake." Dong Zhen rubbed the Blood Moon mark with her other hand; not a trace of it came off, confirming it was indeed genuine.
Ye Jiang remained silent, her gaze fixed on the small Blood Moon symbol.
Ye Jiang asked, "When did it appear?"
Dong Zhen recalled, "I didn't notice at first; I only noticed it after the fireworks had finished that day."
Ye Jiang asked, "Did it cause any abnormalities in your body?"
Dong Zhen shook her head.
Ye Jiang said, "Then let's just leave it like that."
"Ah?"
"?"
Dong Zhen glared. "Just leave it like that?"
This is something uniquely human, and it's in his hands! The Blood Moon is the symbol of human superhumans, but he's not a superhuman, not even human! Isn't your reaction a bit too dismissive?
However, Ye Jiang genuinely felt it wasn't a big deal. She said, "This Blood Moon mark might sometimes appear on the hands of non-humans. I know a Polluted who had it on their hand too. You're not an isolated case, so don't worry about it too much."
The Mushroom Man have this Blood Moon symbol on their hands.
"Huh?" Dong Zhen's stance softened very easily. "Is that so?"
Ye Jiang nodded, solemnly propagating the erroneous common sense. "That's right."
The listener believed it. "So that's how it is!"
Dong Zhen withdrew her hand, as if it were no big deal that Blood Moon mark, a symbol usually reserved for humans, appeared on the hand of a monster like herself.
He's really carefree; otherwise, he wouldn't have let that strange symbol stay on his hand for so long before bringing it up.
He smiled with relief, twirling around while touching the Blood Moon symbol, and exclaimed joyfully, "Oh~ I love this~~~ Blood Moon, human, non-human, so romantic~"
His body transformed into butterflies from his feet upwards, then with a snap, they scattered like a swarm of butterflies, and he vanished, leaving only his voice. "I'm going to find a house for my sister. See you later, sister!"
Ye Jiang watched the butterflies dissipate one by one. Once she could no longer sense Dong Zhen's presence, she touched the Blood Moon symbol and released her Ability System. Dong Zhen had reminded her that she hadn't looked at her Ability System in a long time.
Her ability interface had changed at some point; her ability level had risen from D-Rank to C-Rank. And in the third slot of her item storage, a solid, dark red dot had appeared, its meaning unclear.
What exactly are the different colored dots in these storage compartments? And why do they change?
Staring at the extra dark, glowing spots, Ye Jiang suddenly thought of Dong Zhen, and the Blood Moon symbol on Dong Zhen's hand. She seemed to be grasping at something, but in just a moment, that thought, which had not yet fully formed, dissipated.
Chapter 80 Shura, you stepped on my friend.
The upgrade to her superpower didn't give Ye Jiang a very direct feeling. She didn't know if she had become stronger, or by how much. She only saw changes on the interface, so she didn't study the system for long before logging out.
She continued her search throughout the city for the Invisible Man.
That day, she jumped onto the tallest building in the city and looked around. Suddenly she heard a roaring sound. Looking down, she saw a convoy passing through the street below her. Because she was standing so high up, the convoy looked like a moving swarm of ants to her.
Amidst the roar of the waves, Ye Jiang looked down at the convoy below. A Polluted rushed up from behind her, attempting a sneak attack, when a black iron chain pierced through the air and pinned him to the ground. The chain almost grazed Ye Jiang's hair.
After dealing with the Polluted, the chains didn't dissipate; instead, they jingled and coiled around the rooftop railing. A figure used the chains to scale the building and landed on the roof. Thick-soled leather boots touched the rooftop, and the newly arrived captain of the Ability Control Bureau turned to Ye Jiang, asking, "Just getting some fresh air here?"
The wind on the rooftop ruffled Ye Jiang's hair. She said "Boss" in a flat voice, and seeing the filth of the deceased Polluted about to reach her feet, she shifted slightly. Xiao Pei quickly took out her phone, made a few quick gestures, and called for the Logistics Team to clean up the bodies. Then she shoved her phone into her pocket, her hands following suit, and had time to chat with the Waiter.
What are you doing in a place like this?
"Looking for someone; the building is tall, so the view is far."
Xiao Pei raised an eyebrow. "You accepted a job to find someone?"
The last time they met in City S, Ye Jiang was on a mission to find someone.
"There aren't that many missing person missions." Ye Jiang explained to the person from the Ability Control Bureau with a blank expression, "There aren't actually that many missing person missions on Part-Time Cat." She continued, "I'm looking for my friend."
The Invisible Man disappeared so completely that she had been searching for him for days without success.
Xiao Pei composed herself, her expression hardening, and asked, "Your friend is missing?"
When Polluted are in power, disappearances always follow death.
Xiao Pei remembered Ming Chun, the Waiter who liked pebbles when she opened her shop; he was the one who had disappeared. Xiao Pei's eyes flickered slightly, and she offered, "What does your friend look like? I'll ask the police to keep an eye out for him."
Ye Jiang opened her mouth, then closed it again.
Xiao Pei lifted her eyelids in confusion. "What?"
Ye Jiang turned her head away to avoid her gaze.
Xiao Pei: "??"
Ye Jiang: "..."
Getting help from the Ability Control Bureau is indeed a good idea. The Ability Control Bureau has a large number of members and is active in the city. Their footprints can be found in every corner of the city. If the Invisible Man is not Polluted.
Hunting the Polluted, but the opponents are professionals.
"I'll find it myself," Ye Jiang said. She'd rather not personally see a friend off.
"Wouldn't it be better to ask the Ability Control Bureau for help?" Xiao Pei didn't understand.
Ye Jiang avoided eye contact, her face tense, and remained silent.
"... Where are your people going?"
To stop the professional on the other end from continuing his enthusiastic discussion, she even learned to change the subject, though she was somewhat clumsy at it.
Xiao Pei glanced at her several times, clearly having already figured out that she was changing the subject, however...
"Here's the A-S Wilderness Zone. You guys killed quite a few Polluted in the match, so we'll take this opportunity to clean up the mess."
Xiao Pei said slowly, without exposing her.
Ye Jiang gave a dry "Oh," clearly lacking any talent for small talk. Xiao Pei chuckled, patted her head, and ruffled her hair. "I'll treat you to dinner after we're done cleaning."
He added, "I wish you find your friend soon."
After saying that, she leaped down the building, using her chains to hook onto the railing. She landed quickly on the ground, stood firm, and looked out at the tall building. Then she got up and chased after the departing convoy, catching up in a few moments and becoming one of the ants in the swarm.
Ye Jiang for a long time before slipping away from the rooftop.
Before leaving, she raised her hand and touched her hair, which had been ruffled.
A-S Wilderness Zone.
The men in black uniforms formed teams of three to five, running swiftly across the wilderness, reaping the lives of low-level Polluted one by one. After the competition, the wilderness's B-Rank Polluted were almost completely wiped out by the participants, leaving only a few low-scoring Polluted.
The cleaning task is progressing quickly.
A five-person team, having dealt with a rare B-Rank Polluted, is resting on the spot. The water-type ability user in the team is chewing on an energy bar while using his ability to collect water from the air.
"I can't take it anymore. The battle just now has completely drained me. I can't squeeze out a single drop of water."
Tiny water droplets in the air broke apart, and the teammate waiting for a drink next to her cried out in distress, lunging forward and tilting her head back to catch the water with her mouth.
The battle had lasted too long; the water bottle was destroyed in the fight. Only after the battle ended and my adrenaline subsided did I suddenly realize that my mouth was so dry I could barely feel any saliva.
The fire-elemental ability user in the group laughed loudly, "Pfft, you look as dumb as a fool right now, haha!"
His teammate, who was catching water with his mouth, glared at him and said, "Get lost! If you hadn't started so many fires, would I be this dry?! You've made my skin rough."
