Power Progression
Ye Jiang’s interface resembles an ordinary Ability System, but belongs to a separate system: it has no ability index, never displays a numerical ranking, and eventually stops naming her ability 183.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| F-rank | 22 23 | Discovers the Blood Moon mark on her left index finger. Her interface identifies her ability as Sewing Box, supposedly limited to restoring torn clothing. |
| E-rank | 38 39 | Notices the upgrade after removing the foreign tissue stitched to Mushroom Man. Her own experiments reveal no obvious change in the displayed ability’s effects. |
| D-rank | 71 | Her rank changes from E to D after the City S confrontation. A third Domination storage slot opens with a condensed dark-red point of light; ability users worldwide also experience changes to their indices. |
| C-rank | 106 | Discovers that her rank has risen again. She feels no clear physical difference and cannot judge how much stronger she has become. |
| S-rank | 183 | Displayed after a lost energy ball returns to her and restores memories of her creations. The ability name appears as “??”. |
| SS-rank | 195 | Watches a second “S” appear without undertaking human-style training. |
| SSS-rank | 235 245 | Confirmed after returning from the memory illusion. Later clarification attributes this increase to humanity returning power to her, rather than simply to recovering her energy particles. |
| SSSSSSS-rank | 245 | One of the explicitly displayed stages during her rapid rise as humanity resists the World Destroyer. |
| SSSSSSSSS-rank | 245 | Her rank continues climbing as ability users and ordinary people fight to protect others. |
| SSSSSSSSSS-rank | 245 | Another displayed stage in the same accelerating sequence of advances. |
| 99S | 245 | The rapidly changing rank display finally stops at 99S as humanity sends increasing amounts of energy back to her. |
| Surface World’s first Sovereign of Power | 248 | Gains energy from ability users, special Polluted, and ordinary humans. Support from the Surface World also helps her regain control of the Inner World. |
Background and History
First Contact with Humanity
Three hundred years before her hospital awakening, Ye Jiang crossed the world’s barrier as a being far stronger than her later self. She initially regarded humans as tiny, feeble creatures. Her interest eventually led her to reveal herself in a villa, where Ye Yanran became the first human to see her 215 220 245.
Mistaking her for an unusual Living Dead, the Special Affairs Office took her to a hospital. Ye Yanran treated her as a conscious person despite her silence, teaching her to read and telling her stories. Ye Jiang initially considered receiving a name from a weaker being an affront, but accepted “Ye Jiang” after witnessing Ye Yanran’s compassion at a funeral 220 232.
Ye Yanran later chose to die in an experiment intended to awaken human abilities, leading to the Blood Moon’s creation. Ye Jiang created the Blood Moon, Moon Tree, and Toy Mall to help humanity, whose emotions had fascinated her. She also made the mall and its wind-up toys as a playground for the little coal-ball monster she raised, later known as Rong Yin 183 184 236.
Awakening with Amnesia
Ye Jiang awakens in hospital believing herself to be an orphan whose friend, Yu Qingyi, has waited three years for her recovery. She accepts this identity despite having large gaps in her knowledge of money, work, and ordinary social customs 1 11.
Her first friendships include the Polluted Invisible Man, whom she treats as a fellow patient rather than a threat. Concern over Yu Qingyi’s workload and expenses motivates her to leave the hospital and seek work, despite her instinctive preference for watching television and doing nothing 2 4 11 26.
Major Arcs
| Arc | Ye Jiang’s Involvement |
|---|---|
| Trial Ground 165 | Takes a part-time assignment under the name Turbot, protects students, and shelters the injured Mushroom Man. The students regard her as a powerful teacher before she even understands what abilities are 16 17 22 23. |
| City A crisis | Escorts more than a hundred vehicles to safety and agrees to help rescue Old Hu. Stops Mushroom Man’s disastrous approach to the city by removing tissue stitched to her body 34 38 41. |
| Sealed City S | Works as Ji Jia’s escort, protects other travelers, obtains the Blood Knight’s greatsword, and repairs Chen Zhuozhuo’s shattered body. The city’s barrier remains after the Blood Knight dies 44 46 51 60. |
| Pollution-Hunting Competition | Initially struggles with her points ranking while refusing to abandon her usual meals and nightly rest. She later becomes the competition champion 78 81 205. |
| Shuiling Town | Investigates the town while lodging with Hua Ling, treats injuries and mental pollution, and supplies medicine to its modified-human residents. Encounters pollution linked to Mei Ti’s house and acquires two useful tentacles 118 123 130 131. |
| Recognition of her nonhuman identity | Understands her occupation of a human body as the result of fulfilling a wish. Yu Qingyi’s distress prompts her to investigate whether a monster can leave its host 144 145. |
| Southern gate and Toy Mall | Accepts a Bureau exploration job hoping its Origin Power can help her leave her host. Inside the mall, recovers memories of her creation ability, her relationship with Rong Yin, and her authorship of the supposed miracles 148 178 183 184. |
| Watch Mountain Range | Enters a memory illusion while seeking the origin of her name. What appears to be travel into the past instead allows her to reenact experiences from three hundred years earlier 207 220. |
| Ghost Mother confrontation | Cages Ghost Mother’s child, destroys her porcelain masks, and fights Ghost Mother directly. After the illusion is damaged, restores it and removes outsiders and their memories from its inhabitants 225 226 227 232. |
| World Destroyer crisis | Fights alongside Rong Yin, reaches 99S through humanity’s returning power, and becomes the Surface World’s first Sovereign of Power. Her enormous release of energy briefly weakens her; the ensuing seven-day snowfall greatly reduces worldwide pollution 242 245 248 249. |
Appearance
- Human appearance: Delicately beautiful, pale and bloodless, with a small, frail-looking frame and slender arms 49 214 215.
- Eyes: Usually deep black; dark-red traces emerge when her power stirs 109 112 178.
- Expression: Naturally cold and largely expressionless. Shortly after awakening, she struggles to return Yu Qingyi’s smile and concludes that she has some facial paralysis 1 89.
- Blood Moon mark: Appears on her left index finger 22.
- Dark-red form: During her fight with Ghost Mother, her eyes become blood-red and her hair grows to her heels, turning the same dark red as the Blood Moon 227.
- Host-body discrepancy: Realizes that Tang Su’s actual body is taller, sturdier, and differently featured than the “Ye Jiang” everyone perceives. She had unconsciously altered both people’s memories and their vision 215.
Personality
Ye Jiang is an unapologetic slacker who prefers television, candy, sleep, and an undisturbed routine. Even when competing for money, she refuses to spend ten days living in the wilderness or sacrifice her usual meals and bed. She can also spend an entire day simply watching the scenery, reflecting a long-lived monster’s weak sense of passing time 4 78 194.
Her amnesia leaves her blunt and unfamiliar with human conventions. She does not initially understand earning money or handshakes, mistakes a child’s thank-you gift for a proposed trade, and frequently declines to correct other people’s assumptions about her 11 22 44 65.
Despite her apparent detachment, she becomes willing to work because she cannot bear Yu Qingyi’s hardship. Her interest in human emotions develops into attachment and respect: she promises herself that they will survive together, grieves over suffering she cannot undo, and ultimately recognizes humanity’s strength as something far greater than its abilities alone 26 214 245.
She is not indiscriminately gentle. Broken promises, needless noise, and interference with her plans irritate her; she can intimidate offenders, forcibly silence them, or deliberately toy with an enemy. She also resents the abuse of powers that tamper with other people’s abilities 103 205 206 213.
Abilities and Skills
Attributeless Power
Her power has no attribute. Healing and restoration are easiest for her, followed by creation; in principle, she can reproduce any ability, subject to her imagination and her power’s upper limit 203.
- Can produce varied effects without possessing separate conventional abilities 203.
- Remains much weaker than the self she remembers first descending into the world 215.
- Cannot reverse death: life and death are the world’s highest law, beyond even extremely powerful beings 203.
Restoration and Healing
Initially presented as Sewing Box, her ability proves far broader than repairing clothes 23 25.
- Restores worn clothes, furniture, a refrigerator, and wilted flowers 25.
- Repairs Chen Zhuozhuo’s shattered body, but does not awaken her 60.
- Treats physical injuries and mental pollution; mental treatment takes longer and cannot simply be rushed 118.
- Removes hostile monster tissue from Ming Chun, restoring her consciousness 236.
- Restores the damaged Toy Mall and later repairs the memory illusion 186 232.
Creation and Spatial Effects
She recovers conscious use of creation during the Toy Mall expedition 178.
- Creates weapons, including a steel pipe, dagger, and greatsword 178 211 227.
- Creates an iron cage to imprison Ghost Mother’s child 225.
- Gives an ordinary pocket a storage-space function large enough to preserve a bouquet intact 201.
- Produces invisibility effects for herself and Rong Yin 207.
- Creates a barrier sturdy enough for Rong Yin to assume his complete true form 243.
Blood Moon and Domination
Ye Jiang created the Blood Moon System rather than receiving special favor from it. Her own interface includes a Domination section containing storage slots and points of light 24 183.
- Can control ability users through the Blood Moon, which she describes as a side effect of its creation 236.
- Can alter other people’s ability ranks, a power that inspires Wang Zhiqiang’s reverence and fear 77 205.
- Her connection with Shi Li becomes visible when a point of light stabilizes in Domination and a Blood Moon mark appears on Shi Li’s tentacle 140.
- The Blood Moon awakens humanity’s existing power; it does not create that power. The Polluted’s power also does not originate from her 248.
Physical Strength and Speed
Her physical performance exceeds what observers expect from her apparent rank, leading others to misidentify her as a speed-type ability user 23 46.
- Strips a B-rank Bone Joint Flower bare-handed before learning about her F-rank ability 23.
- Outruns Wang Zhiqiang despite his speed ability 46.
- Moves too quickly for human eyes to follow while dodging a barrage of abilities 68.
- Uses ordinary steel pipes effectively against powerful opponents 68.
- Matches a fast opponent in the mall, then increases her speed further as dark red appears in her eyes 178.
- Shatters Ghost Mother’s porcelain masks by hand 225.
Perception and Mental Effects
- Distinguishes life from nonlife, explaining why she initially treats ordinary Polluted as dead things but recognizes special Polluted differently 215.
- Possesses senses far sharper than a human’s 201.
- Creates search maps from identifying information, but cannot locate an entirely unknown target. Her search for Ghost Mother yields only an unstable marker and rough direction 203 213.
- Uses a psychic spell to put Ye Yanran and Qin Xiu to sleep 211.
- Alters memories and perception, both unconsciously around her host body and deliberately within the restored illusion 215 232.
Equipment and Items
- Phone — Used for games, job searches on Part-Time Cat, and checking competition information. Enthusiasm does not translate into skill: she repeatedly loses at phone games 17 73 81.
- Bone blade — Taken from a B+ long-tailed monkey’s tail. Breaks the Hyenas leader’s teeth but is later cut in two by the Blood Knight 44 46 47.
- Blood Knight’s greatsword — Obtained through what she describes as a trade. Its presence causes others to reassess her strength; she enjoys imitating its former owner by dragging it 51 52.
- Two tentacles — Acquired in Shuiling Town and used to massage herself and retrieve objects from a distance 131.
- Energy willow leaves — Collected at Mei Ti’s home; she gives one to Rong Yin 123 131.
- Lost energy balls — Connected to her creations and memories. One recovered from the strange cat restores her knowledge of the Blood Moon, Moon Tree, and mall 183.
Relationships
- Yu Qingyi — Her closest human companion after awakening. Yu Qingyi waits three years for her recovery and takes her home; Ye Jiang’s concern for her motivates her to work. Learning the truth about Ye Jiang’s nonhuman identity places their relationship under strain 1 11 26 144 145.
- Ye Yanran — Gives Ye Jiang her name and teaches her to read three hundred years earlier. Her compassion helps draw Ye Jiang toward humanity, and Ye Jiang later seeks her out within the memory illusion 209 220 232.
- Rong Yin — The little coal-ball monster Ye Jiang raised in the Toy Mall. His unobtrusive presence feels familiar because she subconsciously trusts him. A devoted follower of “Sky,” he remains beside her, fights for her, and supports her after her final expenditure of power 184 230 243 249.
- Invisible Man — Hospital friend and later neighbor. Ye Jiang accepts him despite his being Polluted and refuses Bureau assistance in finding him because it could expose him 2 15 73 106.
- Xiao Pei — Employer, ally, and friend, whom Ye Jiang calls “Boss.” Initially understands her chiefly as a powerful healer; later learns her true identity and accepts her declaration that she stands with humanity 54 60 111 236.
- Ming Chun / Mushroom Man — Receives shelter and companionship from Ye Jiang at the trial grounds. Ye Jiang stops her uncontrolled approach to City A and removes the hostile tissue affecting her 17 38 41 236.
- Ming Xia — Student who respects Teacher Turbot’s strength and warns her about retaliation from Jin Hong and Gao Peng 17 23.
- Dong Zhen — Nonhuman companion who gives her flowers and butterfly illusions, helps with house hunting, and offers illusions to alter her appearance 88 89 106 145.
- Wang Zhiqiang — A thief she forces to return stolen ashes and apologize. Becomes an intensely devoted follower after discovering her influence over ability ranks, calling her “Boss” and viewing her as divine 46 57 205.
- Ghost Mother — Enemy whose secret killing of a Polluted after agreeing not to do so enrages Ye Jiang. Their conflict escalates when Ye Jiang imprisons her child 213 225.
- Luo Manyu / No. 6 — Recruited as Ye Jiang’s teacher through an ordinary employment contract after Shi Li and Dong Zhen fail to secure her cooperation 193.
