As soon as she took out the big, bright red fruit, the sound of swallowing could be heard. City S had been under lockdown for more than half a month, and everyone had been suffering from hunger for a long time. Fresh fruit was a rare treasure.
The entire room was filled with people staring intently at the apple in Ye Jiang's hand, their eyes like lit light bulbs.
Click--
Ye Jiang took a bite of the apple, and the leader saw it, his eyes twitching as he felt a pang of heartache.
Although it wasn't his apple.
The junior leader approached Ye Jiang.
"Hello."
Ye Jiang looked up at him as she ate her apple.
The foreman said, "Give me the apple."
Ye Jiang slowed her chewing, and a question mark slowly appeared on her forehead.
"Why?" she asked, not understanding.
The henchman glanced sideways at Liu He, who was sitting next to Ye Jiang, and said to Ye Jiang, "Don't you want to save your lover anymore?"
Liu He's usually stoic expression nearly crumbled, Ji Jia silently adjusted his glasses beside him.
Ye Jiang glanced at Liu He and then at the squad leader, not wanting to waste words on unimportant matters, and simply asked, "If I give it to you, will your healers treat our people?"
The henchman chuckled maliciously, "He'll put in a good word for you."
The translation is: It's nothing at all.
Ye Jiang crunched on the apple, demonstrating her answer to the monkey through her actions. The leader's expression changed; something seemed to occur to him, a dark glint flashing in his eyes. He stared at Ye Jiang Ye Jiang for a moment, then, noticing she wouldn't look up at him again, his face darkened. He stepped aside and suddenly announced loudly to everyone in the room, "The healer is unwell today and will only be seeing one patient."
As soon as these words were spoken, the room became noisy.
The healers in "Peaceful Village" are no good; they employ all sorts of torturous methods. Even so, people still come here, waiting for an opportunity because they desperately need treatment. The healers treat a few people every day, but what have they heard now... Only one patient today?
Some people complained, "Why only treat one person?"
"This is different from before. Didn't we treat several patients every day before?"
"We've waited so long!"
The foreman looked at them and said, "So what? What's wrong with treating only one?"
These words were extremely arrogant, but indeed no one wanted to offend the healer. The overall combat strength of "Peaceful Village" was quite good. If they couldn't protect the healer, that would be fine, but they were able to protect this coveted asset. If other forces came to snatch it, even if they won, they would be severely injured. Therefore, the initiative had always been in the hands of "Peaceful Village".
The injured patient suppressed his anger, not daring to go too far.
"Only one spot..." one person looked around and asked, "So, who will be saved?"
The foreman suddenly laughed, looking at Ye Jiang with malicious intent, as if casually choosing her. "Her."
The room fell silent, and everyone looked at Ye Jiang.
Ye Jiang: "?"
Should she remind him that the person seeking a therapist is Liu He, and that she's just a supporting character, an escort?
She's fine.
One of the injured stared at Ye Jiang with a chilling gaze and asked, "Why her?"
Ye Jiang: "..."
I really should remind them.
The foreman said, "There's no reason, it's just luck. I just like the look of her."
Ye Jiang: "..."
Everyone in the room stared intently at Ye Jiang.
For various reasons, only Ye Jiang, Liu He, and Ji Jia entered the "Peaceful Village" territory this time. Wang Zhiqiang led the rest of the group to a secluded spot to guard the car and food. Therefore, from the perspective of those inside the house, Ye Jiang's group consisted of only three people, one of whom was an ordinary person...
Evil thoughts are growing.
If the look Ye Jiang gave her when she took out the apple was merely one of greed, then now, as the leader announced that she was the only lucky one present, the look directed at her was one of hostility.
Why her?
This is the sentiment of everyone present.
An undercurrent flowed in the air, and the minor leader felt completely refreshed by it.
He glanced coldly at Ye Jiang, then looked down at the replica heavy sword on her leg—what a show-off woman.
"Let this show-off woman have her fill of it," the therapist said, and the foreman did as he was told.
What consequences will this trend lead to?
Answer: You will become the target of public criticism.
Anyone who's still willing to bring gifts to a therapist at this point must have some skill. This show-off woman is in trouble, the underling thought maliciously.
"Luck?" A companion accompanying one of the wounded men fidgeted with his fingers, moving his fingertips near the Blood Moon symbol on his finger. He stared at the leader and asked, "They chose that friend because of her luck, but what if she's unlucky... and dies?"
A chill ran through the air as soon as he said that.
The foreman grinned broadly. "Then there's no other way but to choose someone else."
The accompanying man laughed as well, and said to the foreman, "Your therapist isn't unwell, so you don't need to take care of him?"
The foreman, understanding without saying a word, nodded repeatedly. "That's right."
He looked around at everyone and said, "Then I'll go check if the therapist has woken up yet."
"Go."
The foreman glanced at Ye Jiang, who was still eating an apple, seemingly oblivious to their unfavorable conversation. His eye twitched; he was furious.
Just a little while.
Eat up, eat up! You won't be able to eat anymore once you turn into a corpse!
He thought about it for a moment, and finally felt a little more comfortable. He then turned and left the room.
As soon as he left, supernatural powers erupted from inside the house, with fireworks and water arrows shooting out simultaneously towards Ye Jiang. The small leader who had walked outside stopped and listened to the sounds from inside for a while, a smile spreading across his face.
He slowly descended the stairs and headed towards the buildings housing the leader and the healer to report back.
The underling had just entered the leader's healer's building when he suddenly heard footsteps. He paused, turned around abruptly, and saw a show-off woman carrying a counterfeit heavy sword that didn't match her size, followed by two companions. The underling was a little taken aback.
"What are you doing here?!" he roared, losing his temper.
Ye Jiang looked down at her hands... She had just finished eating an apple, and her hands were sticky with juice.
Instead of answering the foreman's question, she complained to the person next to her with a blank expression, "My hands are dirty."
Liu He almost coaxed her, saying, "Just bear with it for now, there will be water to wash your hands when we get back."
The foreman, feeling ignored, was about to explode when Ye Jiang turned to him and answered, "Let's go see if the healer has woken up yet."
She said, "Aren't they the ones who are supposed to treat us?"
The foreman asked with a strange expression, "Are you alright?"
Ye Jiang recalled the inexplicable attack just now, which wasn't pleasant. Fortunately, her luck effect hadn't worn off yet, and the group that attacked her were both injured and weak, with little offensive power, so she took them all down.
With a blank expression, she said, "I was lucky."
Minion leader. "..."
That's incredibly ironic.
His expression twisted.
"Aren't you leaving?" Ye Jiang saw that the leader wasn't moving, so she pushed him with the hilt of her sword. She didn't use much force, but the leader was suddenly sent flying by her push, almost crashing into the wall and becoming the first decoration on the unfinished wall. Ye Jiang and the leader were both stunned. The former blinked, while the latter was horrified. He quickly steadied himself and turned around to stare at Ye Jiang in shock.
Ye Jiang preemptively asked, "Are you trying to scam me?"
Minion leader. "..."
Does he look like him?
What benefit would that bring him?
He opened his mouth but no sound came out. When he saw Ye Jiang walking towards him, he ran upstairs like a startled rabbit. Ye Jiang glanced at him and followed.
When the gang leader pushed open the therapist's door, he forgot his usual formalities. Inside, the therapist was enjoying tea with the leader. While others in the city were still struggling to make ends meet, they lived a life of luxury no different from that outside City S. The room was lavishly decorated.
The foreman pushed open the door and entered. The therapist's hand trembled, and he made a mistake while placing a chess piece. He glared at him angrily. "Insolence! You ill-mannered brat!"
The junior leader hurriedly pointed to the door, and Ye Jiang, Liu He, Ji Jia stepped inside.
As soon as Ye Jiang entered, she saw the water dispenser in the room. She abandoned her companion and went straight to it, filling a cup next to it to wash her hands, as naturally as if she were at home. The atmosphere froze. The therapist's angry voice rang out from behind her. "Damn it, who told you to bring them here!"
The foreman, his face pale from the shout, stammered, "Healer, they, she..."
He could barely speak.
Ye Jiang shook the water off her hands, turned around when she heard the word "therapist," her eyes dark and unfathomable as she stared at the therapist. "Therapist?"
The therapist had a sinister expression; his already effeminate face, combined with this expression, made him look like a venomous snake crawling out of a snake pit.
Ye Jiang looked at him. "Are you alright?"
His vital energy is so abundant that it doesn't seem like he's unwell.
She stared straight at him. "You're lying?"
The therapist was annoyed with her; everyone knew that his claim of feeling unwell was just an excuse.
He coldly ordered the leader of "Peaceful Village" opposite him, "Kill these people."
The leader didn't move.
The therapist frowned. "The leader?"
The leader's eyes flickered slightly; he had discerned a few clues. He was merely a B-Rank ability user, a level that wasn't low but wasn't rare outside of City S, so he wasn't blindly arrogant. Healing ability users, on the other hand, were precious beings wherever they went, treated with deference wherever they went. Perhaps that was why their healer seemed a bit... oblivious to the situation.
The fact that this woman and her companion were able to come to this room must mean there's something going on, something related to power and influence.
The leader's mind raced. He changed his initial attitude when he saw Ye Jiang dragging the counterfeit heavy sword and politely asked Ye Jiang and her group, "Which of you needs treatment?"
Liu He stepped forward.
