Ye Jiang put down the steel bar, using one end to support herself on the ground, and said, "If you're short of food, why don't you go to the Bureau of the Ability Control Bureau's base?"

He refused to go to the base because he would be recorded there and punished if he left the city!

The mind manipulator thinks.

He had no intention of opening up to Ye Jiang, and declared, "I'm giving you one last chance, put the food down!"

Ye Jiang ignored him, lifted the steel bar in her hand to test its weight, and then suddenly threw it at the mind manipulator in front of her. This attack was much faster than the mind manipulator's control speed. Sparks flew from the air. The mind manipulator was terrified and had no time to escape. He could only close his eyes and run away.

A gust of scorching wind swept past the mind manipulator's ear, severing a few strands of his hair. A steel bar grazed his ear and pierced the wall of the house behind him with a thud, buzzing incessantly.

"..."

The mind manipulator's knees buckled.

Ye Jiang looked at him; the mind manipulator's imposing aura vanished, his knees gave way, and he could no longer stand upright. Ye Jiang abandoned him and left. After walking a short distance, she looked back, startling the mind manipulator, who thought she wasn't going to let him go. However, Ye Jiang's gaze swept past him and looked into the distance. Where her gaze landed, the Little Thief Wang Zhiqiang was peeking out from behind a wall. As soon as her gaze swept over him, he immediately showed an incomprehensible trembling reaction.

Ye Jiang: "..."

How long is this crazy Little Thief going to stick with me?

The mind manipulator, unaware that someone was following them, saw Ye Jiang turn around and burst into tears, wailing, "I was wrong, I know I was wrong, I shouldn't have robbed you! I'll go to the base right away, I promise I'll repent and dedicate myself to the base, I'll do whatever the base asks me to do..."

Ye Jiang didn't care whether he was willing to go to the Bureau of the Ability Control Bureau's base or not; she only found him noisy. She took a step and walked away. Just as she lifted her foot and put it down, everything went black before her eyes, and she was suddenly surrounded by boundless darkness. The mind manipulator realized something was wrong, stopped his loud but weak cries, and looked around in panic.

"What's wrong? Why can't I hear anything?!"

This was the last sound Ye Jiang heard. Immediately afterward, the manipulator's cries disappeared, leaving only silence, with the sound of mouths opening and closing.

Inside the base, the healer was coaxing the superhuman guarding him.

"You're an ability user. Are you content to be a slave to this base? Come leave with me. I'm a healer, and I can immediately give you the same comfortable life we have outside. Think about it, how long has it been since you've had a proper meal at the base? Don't you want a different life? Don't you miss the days outside the city? Come with me."

The superhuman guarding him was taciturn and as stiff as a block of wood. The healer secretly harbored resentment; he couldn't stand being in this base any longer. They didn't treat him like a noble healing superhuman at all, instead subjecting him to humiliation and assigning a superhuman to guard him. Was he a prisoner?

He has to leave!

Thinking of this, he intensified his enticement. "You know ' Peaceful Village, ' right? We can have the same power as ' Peaceful Village.' You can be the leader, you can Domination the organization, and I'll secretly help you. You've heard how peaceful life is in ' Peaceful Village,' right? You can have that too. Oh, and it's different now than before. There are no Blood Knight and no strange phenomena now, so we can live even more comfortably!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the surroundings suddenly darkened. The ominous darkness absorbed all sound, even the sound of a heartbeat could not be heard. The therapist stood up in panic.

[What's wrong?!]

He shouted, but no sound came out, or rather... it was muffled.

After two days of peace, just when the people of the city thought the Blood Knight was gone, the strange phenomenon struck again.

This time, the entire city was plunged into darkness and silence.

My child is dead; he was killed by the Blood Knight.

How cruel! They don't even spare young children.

From today onwards, I'm all alone. It's so quiet; this is probably what it feels like to be utterly desolate and heartbroken.

No, I can't give up. I have to take revenge, I have to avenge my child!

Stand up! Kill the Blood Knight! You must kill the Blood Knight!

Ha, I killed the Blood Knight! She wasn't as invincible as the legends said; it was all lies. I should have done it sooner!

Huh? It's the Blood Knight again? I was already... already... Why is the Blood Knight still alive? Can she be resurrected?

Are Blood Knight immortal beings?!

Kill!

Kill!

No matter how many times, I will kill her!

For my child, I will become an avenger.

The city was silent, the people were panicked, then footsteps echoed in the streets. Something was approaching from the other end of the street—a creature covered in dirty bandages, clutching a huge scythe in one hand. Darkness enveloped the entire city.

Only that thing was clearly visible, only the sound of that thing's footsteps was clearly audible.

The bandaged Avenger raised his scythe.

[Ah!]

There was no sound, no visuals, only blood splattering onto the Avengers' bandages, staining a large area red.

The Avenger pressed on, traversing the darkness, his body thickened with blood that dripped wetly. He arrived at the city's largest human settlement. Unseen anomalies, unprecedented killers, no visibility, no way to hear the administrators' voices—the once well-trained populace, capable of swiftly evacuating the Blood Knight, was now in complete chaos. People scattered in all directions, running for their lives. Who had knocked down whom? Who had trampled whom? Don't think, don't think, run, run!

The Bandage Man has arrived!

Run!

Chapter 49 It's getting in the way, let's clean it up.

[Don't push! Don't run around!]

[We've faced Blood Knight many times before, let's retreat in an orderly fashion, just like before! Don't panic!]

The manager shouted himself hoarse, but not a single word got through.

The superhumans were hesitant to act rashly, as they were not members of the Ability Control Bureau and their combat experience was not extensive. They feared that their superpowers might fall on ordinary people.

Light! They need light!

However, no, the base's only fire-type ability user was an investigator from the Ability Control Bureau, and she had gone out on business with Captain Xiao.

When will Captain Xiao return? When will the investigation team return?

Or—could we simply bestow upon them a god for no reason, to save them?

No, the Bandage Man swiftly and decisively reaped lives like fish on a chopping board, blood spurting repeatedly. The eyes of the superhumans turned bloodshot, and one of them finally couldn't resist, raising his hand to shoot an ice spike at the Bandage Man. But the ice spike didn't land on Bandage Man; it disappeared. This meant that his ice spike attack had hit someone in the base. Fortunately, it was just a probing attack; the condensed ice spike shattered at the slightest touch and wasn't very offensive.

Don't act impulsively!

The companion noticed the air getting colder and grabbed the superhuman's arm, but even without the companion's prompting, the superhuman dared not move, his hand trembling slightly as he used his power.

Make way! Make way!

A couple was running forward hand in hand, their hands gripping tightly. Suddenly, the wife felt her husband pull her hard. She quickly turned around and asked in concern, "[You fell...]"

Is that right?

The hot blood spurting onto her face sealed off her last words of questioning. Her husband's hand hung limply at his sides, and his wife raised her hand in a daze; it was so light.

How can it be so light?

She stood there blankly, groping in the darkness, until she touched a wet, broken piece of skin.

[ah.]

The wife uttered a single syllable without any emotion, forgetting to run away, indifferent to the Bandage Man who came up behind her and raised his scythe high.

The sickle fell.

In the darkness, tragedies unfold like silent films, even robbing the living of the right to express their grief.

The Nurse stood motionless in the darkness, holding the child. All the panicked people who were about to collide with her changed direction and ran away just before they hit her. She seemed to be standing in a safe barrier, outside the tragedy, as a spectator.

She watched the Bandage Man wielding the scythe, not with admiration, for the sight of blood splattering was too commonplace for her, offering little in the way of entertainment.

She watched, bored.

The little girl was terrified. She clung to the nurse's neck, her hands wrapped around it. The smell of blood reminded her of the deaths of her loved ones, and tears streamed silently down her face. However, with no one around to watch, the Nurse, too lazy to put on an act, made no attempt to comfort the girl.

The Nurse simply looked at the Bandage Man, her eyes carrying a hint of assessment.

Suddenly, as if sensing something, the Bandage Man stopped swinging his scythe and turned to face the Nurse.

In the darkness, the two gazed at each other from afar.

People didn't know why the Bandage Man had stopped; they had no time to think about it, they just wanted to get further and further away from death.

The Bandage Man suddenly moved. For the first time, the scythe in his hand grew enormous, its handle long and its blade a crescent moon. He swung the massive scythe at the Nurse, creating a gust of foul wind, its power overwhelming. The Nurse didn't flinch. The air around her was slightly damp, water molecules silently gathering around her, carrying a black, granular quality. Where the moisture spread, even the concrete ground softened and decayed. The base's inhabitants couldn't approach the Nurse because this aura of decay constantly surrounded her. As the scythe swung, the calmly scattered aura of decay in the air suddenly condensed into a single, agile beam, rapidly swirling towards the scythe—

Boom!

Suddenly, flames erupted from the base, and a fireball rose out of thin air.

The fleeing crowd looked up in fright and saw a fireball; their faces broke into a maniacal laugh and cry.

[Captain Xiao and the others are back!]

[Waaah--]

The public didn't have to wait long before the Ability Control Bureau ' investigation team returned. The fire-type ability user in the team released a fireball into the air, dispelling the darkness.

The moment the base lights up, the Nurse pauses, the aura of decay surrounding her dissipates abruptly, and the Bandage Man's scythe sweeps across, causing the Nurse to fall to the ground. The child is thrown aside, and the scythe's attack misses once, but it follows closely, slicing open a large patch of flesh on the Nurse's back.
