"Prosthetic legs? What prosthetic legs?" Sang Luoluo hadn't heard their conversation yesterday.
He Fei repeated everything he had said to the doctor yesterday, word for word. Sang Luoluo immediately turned it down. "Oh, I'll think about it."
She didn't like prosthetic legs, and she wasn't short on points. She just needed to spend some time sorting out a source for her points, then buy a gene potion to heal her legs. She preferred her original legs.
The same went for her brother. His prosthetics were only temporary. They would find a way eventually. In this world three hundred years in the future, technology was so advanced, and so was biomedicine. There had to be a treatment.
He Fei assumed she had taken it to heart, so he said no more.
Before long, they reached the Guard's supply exchange. Sang Luoluo had looked it up. This was where the Guard handed in supplies after returning from missions, and each squad could exchange the supplies they brought back for the corresponding number of points.
Of course, individuals could also exchange supplies.
He Fei went up to greet someone, then wheeled Sang Luoluo into the warehouse inside. "Sang Luoluo, take out everything we collected."
Sang Luoluo nodded and took out the mutant animal hides, teeth, and stripped bones that S16 Squad had collected along the way, laying them all over the floor.
Next came several dozen bottles of snake venom and the entire carcass of that enormous mutant tiger.
There were also a few other odds and ends.
He Fei checked everything against the inventory list. Once he confirmed it was all correct, he nodded in satisfaction.
He Fei had originally thought there might be problems preserving the snake venom after several days. As for the mutant tiger's carcass, even now, the blood flowing from it was still fresh, just as it had been when they first killed it.
Surprised, he gave Sang Luoluo a thumbs-up. "Your ability really is something."
Sang Luoluo nodded in satisfaction.
The exchange tallied everything they had brought out and assessed its value: 28,768 points in total.
He Fei smiled so broadly that his eyes narrowed into slits. In all his time going on missions, this was the first time he had exchanged supplies for so many points.
Since He Fei was here, Sang Luoluo wanted him to wheel her over to the exchange so she could trade the things she had brought back for points.
"I'll give you two points, Brother Fei. Could you wheel me over?"
He Fei said, "No problem."
Sang Luoluo had helped them a great deal. He would have been willing to do this small favor even without any points. Besides, there were two points in it. Why pass up easy earnings?
When Sang Luoluo reached the exchange, she explained to the person there that she wanted to exchange honey she had dug out of a wild hive.
She asked whether she should put it straight in the warehouse or somewhere else.
The moment the person heard it was honey-a rare resource-they hurriedly took Sang Luoluo to the warehouse and called over several people with testing equipment to settle the exchange for her.
A moment later, Sang Luoluo took out over a hundred cubic meters of edible honey and placed it on the barrier paper laid out across the warehouse floor.
A light, sweet fragrance filled the air.
"Wow, so much!"
Someone let out an exclamation.
"What are you standing around for? Hurry up and test it."
Beside her, He Fei was utterly astonished too. He had known Sang Luoluo had dug up a lot of honey herself, but for so much of it to be edible, she was far too lucky. How many points would all this be worth? And judging by the shape of the pile on the floor, it had clearly been dug out one shovelful at a time.
"Luoluo, you're amazing." He Fei sounded a little envious.
Hearing that, Sang Luoluo said modestly, "Brother Fei, if I hadn't been lucky enough to bring back honey this time, I wouldn't have any way to cover my brother's medical bills or mine. We don't even have a place to live right now. Sigh."
He Fei immediately fell silent.
After a wait of about half an hour, they finally finished testing the honey.
The medium-radiation honey and low-radiation honey were placed separately, but a small portion was still high-radiation and inedible. As a rare resource, honey naturally fetched a high price in points: 4,000 points per cubic meter for medium-radiation honey and 8,000 for low-radiation honey.
Of the edible portion, there were eighty cubic meters of medium-radiation honey and twenty-four cubic meters of low-radiation honey. The rest was all inedible.
After the testing and labor fees were deducted, Sang Luoluo received 511,050 points.
That was 510,000 points! Sang Luoluo was delighted.
He Fei stood beside her, too astonished to speak. He was so envious, so jealous. How many years would he have to work in the Guard to earn that many points?
Remembering how her brother kept worrying about points, Sang Luoluo promptly transferred 510,000 points to him.
She also sent a message: [Brother, I earned this.]
She kept the remainder for herself.
Remembering the other things in her space, Sang Luoluo asked, "Oh, right, I also have some firewood. Do you take that?"
"Yes. We go by volume for firewood. One point for every two cubic meters."
"Oh, great." She had collected plenty of branches and wild grass while out on the mission. With that, she took it all out onto an empty patch of floor. There were about a hundred cubic meters of it too.
There was no shortage of wood out in the wilderness, but the base usually only gathered firewood around the outskirts. The deeper wilderness was dangerous, and firewood was too bulky to bring back. Sang Luoluo was taking full advantage of her ability.
She received fifty points in exchange.
Balance: 2,611.
He Fei was incredibly envious. "Even firewood can earn that much."
Fifty points was enough to feed him for ten days.
He Fei suggested, "Sang Luoluo, next time we go on a mission together, I'll gather firewood too. How about you help me bring it back? I can give you points."
Sang Luoluo didn't refuse. "Sure. However much you gather, I'll take it all. How about giving me twenty percent of the points you earn? Does that work for you?"
Chapter 28: The bill: I'm willing to give you the best
He Fei considered whether that split would work. Sang Luoluo's ability was special. On his own, he couldn't bring much back at all. Even if Sang Luoluo had asked for thirty percent, he would have had to agree.
"Sure. It's a deal."
Thinking of her current condition, Sang Luoluo said, "But the way I am now, I'll have to let my legs heal first. I can't go out like this."
He Fei quickly came up with an idea. "How about this? I'll bundle up the firewood I gather in the wilderness and leave it all together. Then, when I'm not out on a mission, I'll rent an aircraft and take you out there just to collect it."
Sang Luoluo didn't know whether that would work, nor did she know what sort of aircraft he meant. But since he was so confident, why couldn't she do it? She might even find Crystal Cores out there. In any case, she wouldn't dare venture into the wilderness alone.
Once they had dealt with the supplies, He Fei wheeled Sang Luoluo to the base's Guard hall, where she took out everything their team had brought on this trip. Lei Qi and Fatty were called over too. Sang Luoluo put down all the large crates they had given her at the beginning, along with the tents that hadn't been taken down, the unused supplies, and so on.
She took everything out in one go.
As for the trucks they had left outside before entering the wilderness, Lei Qi had taken people to drive them out while Sang Luoluo and Wei Xing were unconscious. In Sang Luoluo's current condition, she couldn't go with them on their next mission, so they could only go back to making trips back and forth as before.
After experiencing the convenience of having a spatial ability user, they couldn't bring themselves to like this backward method anymore.
Unfortunately, Sang Luoluo's legs were far too badly injured.
"It'd be fine if Luoluo could get prosthetic legs fitted. Then she could still come on missions with us."
Sang Luoluo gave a couple of dry laughs. "Let's talk about it once my legs are a little better."
He Fei had promised Sang Luoluo not to tell anyone that she had earned a huge sum of points selling honey, so he didn't chime in.
"You handle the rest. I need to take Sang Luoluo back, and I still have to look after Wei Xing," He Fei said.
"Okay, go ahead. We've got this," Lei Qi said.
He Fei had just wheeled Sang Luoluo out of the base hall when they saw more than a dozen trucks driving into the base. A few people looked familiar, and Sang Luoluo soon remembered them. They seemed to be members of S16 Squad, only now returning from clearing out the hive.
He Fei whispered, "It's Young Master Yan's team."
He Fei watched Young Master Yan get out of a truck, looking rather displeased. He slowed down as he pushed Sang Luoluo, hoping to watch the commotion. Several injured people climbed out of the trucks behind him. It looked as though they had run into trouble on this mission.
"Let's not leave just yet. Let's watch," He Fei whispered. He wheeled Sang Luoluo a few steps forward and simply stopped in a shady spot for a while.
People at the rear of the convoy had others carry blocks of honey wrapped in oiled paper to the supply exchange. Their honey had clearly been machine-cut into one-cubic-meter blocks.
There were two truckloads in total, roughly sixty or seventy cubic meters.
The other trucks also carried mutant animal carcasses and other supplies brought back from outside.
Everyone was busy unloading, while Young Master Yan headed toward the base hall with an unhappy expression.
After watching the commotion, He Fei hurriedly wheeled Sang Luoluo away.
Looking at the honey they had brought back, Sang Luoluo was deeply puzzled. She craned her neck and asked He Fei, "Brother Fei, why did they only bring back that little bit of honey? That can't be right. When I was digging tunnels through the hive, I detected lots of edible honey. The whole hive was so big. Even if only a small portion was edible, there should have been more than that."
Sang Luoluo regretted it too. At the time, she had felt that she had food and could exchange it for points, so why put herself through the hardship of digging up so much honey? But after receiving over 510,000 points, she no longer thought that way. It turned out that accumulating enough of these things could earn her quite a lot of points too.
