History
School District Planet and Academy Enrollment
Yu Yang was Wen Jing’s classmate on School District Planet, where she knew him as Thirty-Seven. When they met again at the academy, he embarrassedly asked her to use his name instead. Unlike the five other freshmen who later accompanied them, he had known her personally before awakening 18 19.
During his early academy life, he browsed forums, gathered information, and built friendships. He warned Wen Jing about the welcome party’s hazing tradition and explained that the student council controlled disciplinary punishments, making resistance or refusal risky 18.
Winter Welcome Party
Yu Yang approached Wen Jing with five fellow F-rank freshmen and nervously asked whether they could attend the party with her. The group visibly relaxed when she agreed to protect them 19.
After Wen Jing defeated Lu Cheng, Tan Wenshan threatened to subject Yu Yang and the other five to the seniors’ test. Yu Yang feared that Wen Jing might leave them rather than fight stronger opponents on their behalf. Instead, she offered the autumn intake six chances to challenge her, covering all six freshmen 20.

Freshman League
Yu Yang and other Ochre Soil contestants became trapped in dangerous water, threatened by shark Wilderness Beasts and an airborne Azure Jade opponent. Spotting Wen Jing onshore, he shouted for help. She rescued him and Kevin, then invited both to accompany her 109 110.
He remained with Wen Jing’s growing academy team through the beast tides. Initially surprised to have survived long enough to face one, he later reassured newcomers that even contestants without a useful specialty could stay in the middle, maintain their shields, and survive 112 113.
After his elimination, Yu Yang was ecstatic to discover that he had reached the top thousand. When Wen Jing won the championship, he celebrated with Wan Ling and the other Red Earth students 115 122.
Later Appearances
When Wan Ling earned twentieth place and an inter-academy exchange invitation, Yu Yang jokingly declared that he no longer recognized her as she boasted about accompanying Wen Jing 151.
Years later, he watched the imperial emperor’s arrival broadcast with Wan Ling at the academy’s Starry Sky Vortex Restaurant. By then, he wore a prosthetic eye, which fell out when Wan Ling struck the back of his head 297. He subsequently appeared beside her on Red Earth Star as Mystic Radiance Star crossed the sky 303.
