Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes

Rank twenty-nine Soul Grandmaster 113 159 Remained unable to advance beyond rank twenty-nine for decades. No higher personal cultivation rank is documented before losing Luo Sanpao.
Temporary Golden Sacred Dragon manifestation 118 119 Combined his power with Flender and Liu Erlong through their Trinity Martial Soul Fusion Skill. The resulting dragon could briefly confront a Titled Douluo; this was not an increase in his individual rank.
Martial Soul and Soul Power lost 119 133 Ruan Mei severed his connection to Luo Sanpao. He became an ordinary person without a Martial Soul or Soul Power.
Soul Master capability restored — Artificial Clear Sky Hammer 159 173 Successfully received an artificially created Clear Sky Hammer, regained Soul Power, and recovered the use of his legs. His exact post-fusion rank is not stated.

Background

Yu Xiaogang was born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan as Yu Yuanzhen’s son. His Martial Soul awakened as Luo Sanpao, leaving him with only half a rank of Innate Soul Power. Ridiculed for the mutation and unable to surpass rank twenty-nine, he spent decades researching Martial Soul theory in an effort to prove his worth 159 173.

He took Tang San as his disciple and directed his cultivation, initially developing Blue Silver Grass as a control-type Martial Soul while reserving the Clear Sky Hammer for later. He also worked with Flender and Zhao Wuji to review Shrek’s matches and plan upcoming lineups 104 106 143.

Appearance

  • Before his second leg injury: Used a wooden crutch because his left leg could not bear weight normally 95.
  • After Tang Hao’s punishment: Required a wheelchair, with both legs immobilized. Successive injuries left him pale and haggard 106 113.
  • After Artificial Martial Soul fusion: Could stand and walk independently again. At his subsequent registration visit, he wore a new robe, kept his hair neatly combed, and appeared noticeably more spirited 159 173.

Personality

Yu Xiaogang is deeply sensitive to being dismissed as useless. His research, desire for a stronger Martial Soul, and fantasies of returning to his clan as a Titled Douluo all reflect his longing to overturn decades of humiliation. After receiving the Clear Sky Hammer, he immediately imagined the reactions of the clansmen who had mocked him and the father whose disappointment had troubled him 153 159.

He is protective of Tang San, but often minimizes his disciple’s misconduct. He protested Stelle’s treatment of Tang San after an exhibition match and later defended Tang San’s attempted post-match ambush as an impulsive act. Nevertheless, he could compromise on cultivation decisions when Tang San challenged his plans 101 104 113.

His attitude toward research changes when it offers personal advancement. Initially furious at being examined and deprived of Luo Sanpao, he later volunteered enthusiastically for Martial Soul fusion. His attachment to Luo Sanpao was similarly conflicted: he had resented and considered abandoning it, yet insisted it belonged to him after it evolved into an independent dragon 153 156 157.

Abilities & Skills

Martial Soul Theory and Teaching

Yu Xiaogang developed Martial Soul theories and applied them to Tang San’s cultivation 104 133.

  • Development planning: Advocated suitable Soul Rings and a defined cultivation path as a way to make Blue Silver Grass a powerful control-type Martial Soul 104.
  • Twin Martial Soul strategy: Intended Tang San to delay adding rings to the Clear Sky Hammer until Soul Douluo or Titled Douluo, preserving its slots for high-age rings 104.
  • Match analysis: Reviewed tournament records and discussed team arrangements with Flender and Zhao Wuji 106.
  • Historical knowledge: Recalled that Soul Beasts require at least one hundred thousand years of cultivation to take human form 145.
  • Knowledge gaps: Did not recognize Tang San’s Blue Silver Emperor inheritance and had never heard of that Martial Soul despite years studying Blue Silver Grass. Artificial creation and transplantation of Martial Souls also surpassed his existing theoretical framework 148 149.

Luo Sanpao — Former Martial Soul

Luo Sanpao appeared as a squat, fat creature with pale purple fur. Its damaged outer structure left its strength, speed, and elemental affinity below normal standards 115 118.

  • Gas attacks: Its only reliably functioning offensive ability produced gas through a specialized internal structure 115.
  • Dormant dragon structure: Little Herta discovered a complete high-tier dragon structure present since awakening. She proposed that it had entered dormancy because Yu Xiaogang’s body, Soul Power foundation, and life strength could not sustain its evolution 115.
  • Host limitation: Ruan Mei identified Yu Xiaogang’s level of life as the obstacle restricting its evolutionary pathway 119.
  • Permanent separation: After Ruan Mei severed their connection, he could neither sense nor recall Luo Sanpao 119 133.

Trinity Martial Soul Fusion — Golden Sacred Dragon

Yu Xiaogang, Flender, and Liu Erlong could combine their Soul Power to transform Luo Sanpao into the Golden Sacred Dragon 118.

  • Activation: Yu Xiaogang used hand seals and the invocation “Sun and Moon Radiance, Golden Transformation!” 118.
  • Power source: Flender and Liu Erlong’s Soul Power flowed into Luo Sanpao through their shared connection 118.
  • Combat strength: The manifestation could contend head-on with a Titled Douluo for a short time 119.
  • Limitations: Ruan Mei dismantled the transformation with a light touch. Its documented use preceded Luo Sanpao’s separation from Yu Xiaogang 119.

Artificial Clear Sky Hammer

Yu Xiaogang’s replacement Martial Soul is a small, pitch-black hammer surrounded by slender blue-violet electrical arcs 159 173.

  • Successful integration: He could sense the familiar connection between a Soul Master and their Martial Soul and summon the hammer into his hand 159.
  • Restored cultivation access: Its transplantation returned his Soul Power and allowed him to become a Soul Master again 159 173.
  • Undocumented potential: His ambitions to become a Titled Douluo and learn the Clear Sky Sect’s secret techniques remain aspirations, not demonstrated achievements 153 159.

Equipment & Items

  • Wooden crutch: Used after Tang Hao broke his first leg 95.
  • Wheelchair: Required after Tang Hao disabled his other leg; no longer necessary following successful Martial Soul fusion 106 159.
  • Elder Command Token: Presented to obtain an audience with Bibi Dong. Its source is not established 113.
  • Match records: Used while reviewing Shrek’s tournament performance 106.

Relationships

  • Tang San — Disciple. Yu Xiaogang repeatedly intervenes on his behalf, while the original Tang San defends his teacher against God King Tang San’s criticism and celebrates his successful Martial Soul fusion 113 143 159.
  • God King Tang San — Future counterpart of his disciple. Openly rejects his teaching, blames him for damaging Tang San’s cultivation prospects, and resents his acquisition of the Clear Sky Hammer 133 143 159.
  • Yu Yuanzhen — Father. Despite past disappointment, he protects Yu Xiaogang from the Clear Sky Sect’s elders and expresses approval after his recovery. He also privately feels guilt toward his son 173 175.
  • Flender — Longtime friend, colleague, and fusion partner. Criticizes his mistakes but repeatedly protects, searches for, and encourages him 95 106 115 118 158.
  • Liu Erlong — Golden Sacred Dragon fusion partner. Rushes to check his condition upon finding him restrained in the laboratory 118.
  • Tang Hao — Tang San’s father and a figure Yu Xiaogang admires. Breaks both of his legs in separate punishments over Tang San’s Soul Ring choices, yet Yu Xiaogang still looks to him as a possible rescuer for his disciple 95 106 112 153.
  • Bibi Dong — Grants him an audience but rejects his demand to release Tang San, physically expels him from his wheelchair, and directs him to Lin Yuan 113.
  • Lin Yuan — Adversary who publicly silences him and arranges his abduction for Martial Soul research. Later accompanies Yu Yuanzhen when the Clear Sky Sect attempts to seize him 101 114 173.
  • Ruan Mei — Separates him from Luo Sanpao, then oversees the experiment that gives him an Artificial Clear Sky Hammer 119 153 156 159.
  • Luo Sanpao / Little Gold — Former Martial Soul. After becoming an independent dragon, refuses to return to him and instead stays close to Dan Heng 156 157 158.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Tournament Setbacks and Tang Hao’s Punishment

At Shrek’s training grounds, Flender challenged Yu Xiaogang over Tang San’s ten-year first Soul Ring. Yu Xiaogang called it an accident; Flender linked the mistake to Tang Hao having broken his leg 95.

During the exhibition matches, Yu Xiaogang encouraged Tang San to challenge Stelle. When she knocked Tang San unconscious, he protested her force, only for Lin Yuan to fire an arrow at his feet and threaten to have him removed 100 101.

After Blazing Fire Academy exposed Blue Silver Grass’s vulnerability to fire, Tang San challenged his teacher’s plan to postpone cultivating the Clear Sky Hammer. Yu Xiaogang eventually relented and joined Flender in helping him acquire two strength-type Soul Rings. Although the hammer subsequently helped Shrek defeat Star Luo Royal Academy, Tang Hao condemned the lost future ring potential and disabled Yu Xiaogang’s remaining functional leg 104 106.

Failed Appeal and Forced Research

Following Tang San’s detention for attempting to ambush Spirit Hall’s team after the final, Yu Xiaogang demanded his release from Bibi Dong. She refused and explained that Lin Yuan controlled the matter. Before leaving, Yu Xiaogang threatened to destroy Spirit Hall if anything happened to his disciple 112 113.

That night, Yue Guan knocked him unconscious, and he was taken to the Corporation’s research facilities. Lin Yuan wanted Luo Sanpao examined for clues useful to the Artificial Martial Soul project. There, Yu Xiaogang also learned that Tang Hao had been captured, removing the powerful backer he had hoped would rescue Tang San 114.

Loss of Luo Sanpao

Flender and Liu Erlong discovered Yu Xiaogang restrained in the laboratory when they arrived for the Golden Sacred Dragon experiment. Once released, he participated in the fusion, then ordered the manifested dragon to attack the researchers. Ruan Mei evaded and dissolved it 118 119.

Ruan Mei subsequently severed Luo Sanpao’s connection to him to investigate its evolution without his restrictions. The procedure left Yu Xiaogang without Soul Power or a Martial Soul 119 133.

The Two Tang Sans

After Tang San escaped confinement, Yu Xiaogang encountered him outside the research base and warned him that Tang Hao had been captured. He was bewildered by the disciple’s alternating behavior as the original Tang San and God King Tang San struggled for control 133.

Later, he learned that two consciousnesses occupied Tang San’s body and worried that the future consciousness might harm his disciple. He then witnessed their successful separation into different bodies—an achievement that overturned his assumptions about the limits of Martial Soul research 143 149.

Artificial Martial Soul and Recovery

Seeing artificial twin Martial Souls successfully transplanted into a new body convinced Yu Xiaogang that his own condition might be reversible. He volunteered for the Clear Sky Hammer experiment and requested to be its first recipient 153 156.

Preparations were interrupted when he saw the evolved Luo Sanpao with Dan Heng. His attempts to reclaim it failed: the little dragon rejected him, while Ruan Mei and March 7th emphasized that it was now an independent being entitled to choose its companions 156 157.

With Flender’s encouragement, Yu Xiaogang returned his attention to the fusion experiment. It succeeded, restoring both his ability to walk and his status as a Soul Master. His triumphant celebration ended in a sudden collapse, after which the researchers attended to him 158 159.

Registration and His Father’s Approval

At Spirit City’s Martial Soul Testing Center, Yu Xiaogang publicly revealed his new Clear Sky Hammer while updating his registration. The Clear Sky Sect’s Second and Seventh Elders confronted him, and the Second Elder attempted to take him back to their sect 173.

Yu Yuanzhen intervened, defended his son’s membership in the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, and acknowledged his recovery with “Not bad.” Yu Xiaogang was stunned by the approval he had long wanted. His recovery and Luo Sanpao’s successful evolution also contributed to Yu Yuanzhen’s favorable view of cooperation with the Corporation 173 175.
