Background and History
Transmigration and Internship
Shi Yu was a mythology scholar on Earth who died in an accident. He awakened on Blue Planet in the body of a young man with the same name, retaining his predecessor’s memories. His predecessor had lost his family in the beast tide that struck Ping City ten years earlier 1 6.
The original Shi Yu had excelled academically, studied pet care in Icefield City, and secured an internship at its Pet Beast Breeding Base. Financial limitations prevented him from continuing into higher education. He had instead reserved an Iron-Eating Beast cub through a loan arrangement that required him to complete his internship and obtain the necessary certificate 3 20 22.
After discovering the Skill Index, Shi Yu chose to finish the three-month internship rather than rush into beast taming. He used the work to learn about his new world and collect skills, including Intimidation from the Snow Wolf King and Super Vision from an Azure-Backed Eagle 2 3 5.
Contracting Eleven
After graduation, Shi Yu returned to Pingcheng District to collect his reserved cub. Only Eleven remained: an innately frail Iron-Eating Beast with an unusually self-disciplined temperament. Shi Yu accepted him, earning breeder Lin Xiuzhu’s approval and a month’s supply of free food 6 8.
Shi Yu deliberately left the Capture Contract weak enough for Eleven to reject it. The cub accepted after sensing his affection and intention to raise it carefully. Their completed contract strengthened Shi Yu and expanded the Skill Index 8.
Back at his courtyard home, Shi Yu began combining skill instruction, nutrition, meditation, and ordinary training. He also kept a Green Silkworm, initially intending to improve its silk production as a source of income 9 10 11 14.
Early Battles and Professional Ambitions
Shi Yu sought regulated combat rather than immediately risking wilderness battles. Eleven defeated Chen Kai’s level-six Ice Armor Beast, after which Shi Yu looked for more suitable training through Beast Tamer Association missions 17 20.
He joined Chen Kai, Zhuang Yue, and Yu Jingjing on an Earth-Burrowing Rat extermination mission. Eleven caught twenty-two rats in two hours while practicing reactions and avoiding damage to the crops 21 24.
Although the Skill Index offered lucrative possibilities in breeding and instruction, Shi Yu feared exposing an unprecedented ability before he could protect himself. He therefore chose to pursue the professional Beast Tamer assessment first, planning to attempt it in six months. He considered the special route allowing pets with exceptional combat strength to qualify without first reaching the Transcendent Level 25.
The Statue and the Eleven Bureau
Shi Yu heard a mysterious voice from a stone statue and investigated the world’s historical eras. When he returned at night and sought the truth of history, the sky rumbled and the statue split. He fled and subsequently suspected that the newly appeared Secret Realm was connected to the incident 27 29.
Lu Qingyi recruited him into the Eleven Bureau as a provisional member. His assessment for full membership was to investigate the truth of Icefield City’s history. The arrangement included ten million in starting funds, credentials, and guidance, with instructions to keep his membership secret 31.
When offered a choice of additional assistance, Shi Yu asked for all three options. Lu Qingyi agreed, although the high-species cub would have to wait until he became an advanced Beast Tamer. She also arranged a recommendation to the Bamboo Stone Dojo 32.
Tianmang Mountain Assessment
Shi Yu entered the three-day wilderness assessment held from July 28 to July 30 to obtain access to the ruins. Eleven handled combat while the Green Silkworm assisted with restraint and gathering 35 36 40.
On Magnetic Mountain, Shi Yu copied Size Alteration from an Electric Slime and used Electric Slimes and Electric Ore to train Eleven. Eleven independently learned Thunder Palm within a day 43 44.
Shi Yu finished first with 20,000 points, qualifying to enter the ruins. The assessors praised his level-six Iron-Eating Beast’s ability to defeat level-ten creatures 45.
Advanced Instruction and Dojo Support
After the expedition, Shi Yu spent 1.05 million yuan on high-grade supplements. He taught Eleven Size Alteration, followed by Absolute Sleep, substantially increasing the pet’s versatility and capacity for independent training 47 48.
At the Bamboo Stone Dojo, Lin Hongnian offered training facilities, equipment, resources, an advanced cultivation guide, and personal advice without requiring Shi Yu to follow the ordinary apprentices’ routine. A practical battle against Jiang Rui was arranged to assess Eleven 49 50.
Appearance
- After transmigration: A handsome young man appearing approximately seventeen or eighteen years old 1.
- Previous life: A handsome man in his twenties with an extraordinary bearing 1.
Personality
Shi Yu’s playful, self-congratulatory inner commentary contrasts with his cautious planning. Despite possessing the Skill Index, he completes his internship, studies its limitations, and prefers supervised battles and organized wilderness training over unnecessary danger. His concern for personal freedom also drives him to conceal the Index’s teaching mechanism 1 3 17 25.
He treats his pets as lasting companions rather than replaceable tools. He approaches raising Eleven with a parent’s concern, promises never to abandon him, and repeatedly intervenes when the cub trains to exhaustion. He nevertheless values ordinary training for the discipline and resolve it develops, rather than relying entirely on instant instruction 8 11 14 29.
His caution competes with an enduring curiosity about history and unusual abilities. He returns to investigate the statue despite trying to resist the mystery, and later chooses Size Alteration as Eleven’s first high-level lesson partly because it seems more fun than his other options 27 47.
Abilities and Skills
Telepathy
Shi Yu’s established Beast Taming Talent allows communication beyond his contracted pet 1.
- Understands the thoughts of the Snow Wolves he feeds 2.
- Creates a closer, two-way emotional connection with Eleven during their contract 8.
- Helps him communicate with and raise an uncontracted Green Silkworm 32.
- Does not directly increase combat power 1.
Skill Index
A black stone compendium in Shi Yu’s mind records skills and teaches them to compatible creatures. He considers it a possible second Beast Taming Talent, but its origin is not established 1 2.
- Copying: Requires witnessing a skill and touching its user within an hour 2.
- Instruction: Can grant a recorded skill to a compatible recipient or improve an already learned skill 2 5.
- Capacity: Initially five skills; expands to ten after contracting Eleven 5 43.
- Cost: Consumes Shi Yu’s stamina and mental energy, with more demanding lessons causing severe weakness 10 15 47.
- Cooldown: Varies with the lesson; documented waits include eight, twenty-four, and forty-eight hours 10 14 48.
- Security: Shi Yu avoids teaching other people’s intelligent pets until he can protect himself from the consequences of exposure 25.
| Recorded Skill | Documented Source or Acquisition | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Intimidation | Snow Wolf King 2 | Remains untaught when Shi Yu postpones its lesson after two demanding days 48. |

Beast Taming Space
Shi Yu uses his Beast Taming Space to house Eleven and support his growth and recovery 8 9.
- His apprentice-level summoning array and spatial barrier are nearly colorless 9.
- Prioritizes improving the space’s environment rather than its size or restraint strength 14.
- Can currently contract only one pet; a second contract requires reaching junior Beast Tamer level 32.
- Plans to use Eleven’s Absolute Sleep to reduce the burden of recovery on the space, leaving more time and stamina for his own cultivation 48.
Pet Care and Training
Shi Yu combines strong academic knowledge with practical caretaker experience 10 20 22.
- Recognizes species, habits, food preferences, skills, and signs of growth level 20.
- Kept several notebooks of Green Silkworm growth data during his internship 10.
- Combines nutrition, conventional drills, skill instruction, and controlled combat rather than treating any one method as sufficient 14 17.
- Develops Eleven as a versatile combat pet while considering rarer support-oriented evolutionary paths for the Green Silkworm 45.
Pet Beasts
| Pet | Contract Status | Documented Development |
