Zhao Wuji earned the title Unmoving Ming King through countless killings. His intimidating reputation and violent past were sufficient for Spirit Hall to pursue him in his younger years. Zhao Wuji tests Hu Jiu, Tang San, and Xiao Wu by challenging them to survive an incense stick's worth of combat. He initially underestimates the trio, then uses Great Strength Vajra Bear possession and increasingly serious Soul Skills after their coordinated attacks damage and pressure him. 60 61

Taking Hu Jiu as a Disciple

During a Soul Ring expedition, Zhao Wuji reveals Indestructible Vajra as a self-created skill and offers to teach it if Hu Jiu becomes his disciple. Hu Jiu agrees after seeing Zhao Wuji's extensive collection of Soul Skill manuals. Zhao Wuji subsequently advises Hu Jiu on Soul Ring selection and warns him never to expose the cultivation-doubling effect of Absorption. 64 65

As Hu Jiu continues advancing, Zhao Wuji remains a willing sparring partner.
