Pestilence Out of Control
In the Death World, time flows on, and compared to the previously stable and slow development, the changes that have occurred are now enormous.
The Foundation has reinstated the Pestilence Doctor, but rather than "internment," "suppression" would be a more accurate description.
The laboratory where the Pestilence Doctor is located serves as a containment site, guarded 24 hours a day by a task force, except for specific researchers who communicate with the Pestilence Doctor through communication devices within the laboratory.
Other people are not allowed to approach or communicate with each other via communication devices.
The reason for adding the word "specific" before "researchers who can speak with the Pestilence Doctor" is because the Pestilence Doctor has almost spiraled out of control.
The vast majority of people were infected with the kind of Pestilence he could understand.
Anyone diagnosed with the Pestilence will become extremely irritable and their eyes will turn bloodshot beneath their mask, regardless of how they come into contact with the Pestilence Doctor.
There was simply no way to have any effective communication, and this situation became increasingly apparent over time.
What became equally obvious was that the Pestilence had quietly spread everywhere without anyone noticing.
What started as something that few people paid attention to has now become a major problem.
This forced the Foundation's researchers to combine the changes in the world's Pestilence with the uncontrolled situation of the Pestilence Doctor.
While there may not be a direct connection, there is certainly an indirect relationship.
On a polished crystal, as smooth as a mirror.
There were no reflections above, only the image of a messy room and a corpse within it.
Several specific researchers stood around; this was a Magic Energy technology, similar to surveillance, created using Warpstone and Magic Energy.
The scene depicts the research lab that temporarily houses the Pestilence Doctor.
About five or six minutes passed in a tense atmosphere among the researchers.
A rustling noise came from the screen, followed by a slow, jumbled series of footsteps.
A person wearing a leather jacket and a bird-beak mask was the first to enter the room from outside and appear in the range of the Magic Energy surveillance footage.
Before the tense researchers could speak, the Pestilence Doctor began to speak on his own:
"I'd like to ask you doctors, is it really appropriate to exchange academic ideas in this way?"
"Why don't you let me out? The situation is really urgent; the Pestilence has already begun to spread."
"I think you need my help too, after all, you don't want to get infected by the Pestilence, do you?"
"Maybe we can develop a cure? At the very least, I can perform a minor surgery on the infected to help them escape the Pestilence."
"Look, I have so many success stories here."
As the words fell, more than a dozen people, looking like walking corpses, entered one after another from the door of the back room.
Covered in blood and with a blank expression, it looked less like a human and more like a soulless body.
This is the state of recovery after the Pestilence Doctor performed the surgery, but he's the only one who considers this a true cure.
The researchers surrounding the surveillance footage naturally knew that this was no different from being dead.
At this point, a researcher couldn't wait to interject, "Enough of that. We all know this isn't a truly effective way to cure the Pestilence."
"Tell us directly, what exactly is going on with the Pestilence? How did you know Pestilence was spreading? And what is this Pestilence related to?"
The Pestilence Doctor bent slightly, and although his facial expression couldn't be seen, his body language revealed that he seemed somewhat helpless or speechless.
"I've told you before, this Pestilence is related to this world; this world has been contaminated."
"The Pestilence has spread further now, hasn't it? Even here, I can smell the filthy, stench of the Pestilence wafting around."
"If you won't let me out for research, then if you want to end this Pestilence, perhaps you should start by destroying the world."
After saying that, the Pestilence Doctor stopped standing there, took out a scalpel from his waist, and walked to the corpses in the corner to start his own work.
The researchers outside were getting impatient. "Pestilence Doctor, if you don't intend to reveal more information, there's absolutely no way you're getting out of there!"
The Pestilence Doctor ignored them, cut something off the corpse, and left the room.
"Damn! It's that same old excuse again; he won't reveal anything!"
One researcher angrily threw a punch into the air.
They began trying to contact the Pestilence Doctor after the Pestilence began to show clear signs of spreading.
However, they did not obtain any useful information each time, and now that the situation of the Pestilence is becoming increasingly severe, their location has become a very important breakthrough point.
"Could it be that he really didn't know?"
"How is this possible! There must be something wrong with him, or it's related to the legendary Abomination."
The moment the word "Abomination" was mentioned, all the researchers fell silent; Abomination is no ordinary thing.
"As mentioned above, this is uncertain. According to records, Abomination has existed since the early days of our city's founding, so why is it that Pestilence is breaking out now?"
Even those madmen who believe in Abomination don't believe that Abomination caused this."
"Could it be... something even more terrifying than Abomination?"
Everyone fell silent again; this world was so unknown to them.
The city was created with the aim of exploring the truth of this world, but so far there hasn't been much progress.
Throughout history, numerous major events have occurred, further worsening their living conditions and leading to the emergence of entirely new and unknown entities that had never been seen or recorded before.
Therefore, the current situation cannot be ruled out...
They weren't the only ones looking for a breakthrough from the Pestilence Doctor; the investigators and Potions in the church were too.
"Alas, if the Pestilence continues to worsen like this, and there's no other way to break through... then we'll have no choice but to follow the orders from above and release the Pestilence Doctor."
The city and streets are no longer bustling; only a few pedestrians hurry by, and all of them wear masks.
Pairs of eyes peered out through the windows of the houses on both sides as a city guard vehicle drove by.
"Attention all residents, report any Pestilence immediately."
"Attention all residents, report any Pestilence immediately."
The people on the vehicle were shouting loudly through a megaphone.
In contrast to the relatively well-managed large cities, remote towns have become breeding grounds for the Pestilence.
