Tournament Victory and Succession Claim

Dai Mubai is Dai Weisi’s younger brother by seven years. At the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament, he and Zhu Zhuqing defeat Dai Weisi and Zhu Zhuyun by overpowering their Hell White Tiger fusion. The defeat costs Dai Weisi his standing as the expected imperial heir and leads to his confinement in Star Luo City 1.

Dai Tianfeng, Prince Cheng, then leads thirty-six ministers in petitioning the emperor to replace Dai Weisi with Dai Mubai. He presents Mubai’s level forty-five cultivation at seventeen as proof of exceptional talent 3. The Zhu Family also begins treating Mubai as the likely future emperor: Zhu Zhuyun’s mother and second aunt attempt to make her abandon Dai Weisi and become Mubai’s consort, but she refuses 7 8.

Preparations for the Rematch

While returning from the tournament, Dai Mubai stops with Zhu Zhuqing at the Flying Eagle City courier station. He dismisses her concern about the absence of ambushes, claiming that Dai Weisi has lost his courage and is merely awaiting defeat. Dai Tianfeng interrupts this confidence with news that Weisi has become a Soul King, gained a Titled Douluo protector, and demanded a fight to the death 12.

Dai Tianfeng gives Mubai the Swift Shadow Swift Leopard Left Leg Bone on the condition that he win. Mubai accepts and promises to make his uncle prince regent after taking the throne. Absorbing the bone raises him to level fifty; with only three days before the duel, he chooses to seek a several-thousand-year tiger-type Soul Ring in the Royal Soul Hunting Forest rather than pursue a ten-thousand-year ring 12 13.

Meanwhile, Dai Tianfeng arranges for Spirit Hall’s Platinum Bishop to witness the duel and spreads stories portraying Mubai as a righteous hero returning to save the empire 13.

Defeat at the Great Soul Arena

At the public succession duel, Dai Mubai claims he never sought the throne and is acting only for the empire and its people. Dai Weisi rejects the speech and proposes that each brother withstand one attack without using Soul Ring power while defending 14 15.

Mubai attacks first, combining White Tiger Vajra Transformation, his Soul Bone, and White Tiger God-Slaying Claw. Dai Weisi emerges unharmed behind his defensive torso Soul Bone. When their roles reverse, Mubai raises White Tiger Protection Barrier, but Weisi’s Dark Gold Dreadclaw attack shatters it and leaves him badly wounded 15 16 18.

Admitting that he cannot win alone, Mubai invokes the succession contest’s paired format and calls Zhu Zhuqing into the fight. Their mutated Hell White Tiger breaks through Weisi’s layered barriers, but he stops its claws with his arms. Mubai then expends their remaining Soul Power on Hell White Tiger Break. Dai Weisi and Zhu Zhuyun answer with a stronger fusion, destroy the attack, and forcibly break Mubai and Zhuqing’s Hell White Tiger apart 18 19 20.

Mubai collapses with more than half his bones broken and injuries severe enough that he coughs up fragments of his internal organs. Zhu Zhuqing loses consciousness from the fusion’s backlash 20.

Imprisonment and Attempts to Secure Help

After his victory, Dai Weisi chooses imprisonment and humiliation rather than execution or pardon. The emperor names Weisi crown prince, and Mubai is sent to the dungeon’s lowest level under orders forbidding visits or contact without Weisi’s permission 21.

Mubai privately hopes Tang San and his companions will rescue him. He also reveals that his refusal to surrender was calculated: he believed begging for mercy would encourage the watching nobles to demand his death. During a visit, Dai Weisi tells him that Zhu Zhuqing will become his secondary consort, provoking Mubai into a helpless rage 22.

Zhu Zhuqing subsequently seeks outside support. She tries to direct Weisi’s suspicions toward Prince Cheng after an assassination attempt, then offers Dugu Bo high office and a hereditary kingship if he helps Mubai reclaim the throne. He cultivates a public image of reluctant duty and brotherly concern. At the duel, he claims to be acting for the people and pretends to worry about injuring Weisi, while privately welcoming the opportunity to destroy him. His apparent concern continues briefly after he believes his strongest attack has landed 14 15 16.

His behavior becomes increasingly desperate as defeat approaches. He shifts from the agreed exchange to a sudden fusion attack, drawing condemnation from spectators. His later claim that he would rather die than yield is not simply stubborn courage: in prison, he explicitly regards it as a tactic that helped preserve his life 18 19 22.
