The Migration Begins
Another month passed.
With the City of Knowledge · Sugras successfully established, the Port City of Dankfort was also half-built.
The first population migration had been put on the schedule. A group of more than fifty thousand elves, made up of civilians from three cities, would travel to the area around Eresal Fort and establish temporary settlements.
The elves entering the portal had faces full of anticipation for their future lives. Snyder smiled as well. This was the best response to the results of his work.
"Snyder, I've finished choosing the personnel."
"Do you have a list? Let me see it."
Snyder returned from the window to the desk and spoke to Maiev.
"Here's the roster." Maiev handed Snyder the list, and a familiar name caught his eye.
"Arluin? The elf who reported the nobles' orders to you? Isn't he a civilian? How did he end up on the list?"
"Arluin has a younger sister. To support her, he did a bit of stealing from an early age. By a stroke of chance, he became a rogue when he grew up. His childhood experiences also made him shrewd, and he's well suited to stealing intelligence."
"Mm, his life experience will make him a good fit for the job."
"Does the organization have a name yet?"
"I've named it the Watchers."
"Once the capital is built, choose a suitable place around it and establish a base for the Watchers."
"Next to the capital? Wouldn't that be too close? Besides, wouldn't it be a bit inappropriate to build a prison next to the capital?"
Snyder's words surprised Maiev. Building a prison next to the capital really was a little unsettling.
"My mind is made up. The kingdom we establish must be governed by law. We can't repeat the mistakes of the Kaldorei Empire."
"I support you. After all, the consequences the Kaldorei Empire brought upon us were far too severe."
"Fandral, we're nearly at the central region."
Over the past month, Fandral had taught his newly recruited apprentices while traveling, which was why the journey had taken so long. But it had all been worthwhile. The new Druid apprentices could already use simple nature spells, which would help improve the environment of the new continent later on.
"This land was only recently raised. I need a little more time to commune with nature."
With that, Fandral sat down, closed his eyes, and began trying to communicate with the spirits of nature here.
Beside him, Elisande watched Fandral with some impatience. At the beginning, Fandral had persuaded her that he needed to train the new Druid apprentices, so they had slowed down.
He had also promised her that once they arrived, he would quickly find a suitable place, but now this had happened.
As time trickled by, Elisande grew more and more anxious.
At last, just as Elisande was about to lose her temper, Fandral opened his eyes.
"The nature here tells me there's a pool up ahead. The soil near it is well suited to plant growth, and the surrounding terrain is also suitable for building a central city."
Hearing Fandral's words, Elisande's impatience subsided.
Elisande immediately used communication magic to contact Snyder.
"What is it, Elisande? Have you run into some difficulty?"
Snyder had just finished work and was preparing to go down and check on security in the various districts to relieve the fatigue of handling government affairs. Just then, Elisande sent her a message.
"Lord Snyder, we've found a place suitable for planting the tree," Elisande reported to Snyder excitedly.
"Excellent. Elisande, look for a place around it that's suitable for building a large city. Our capital will be built there."
Snyder grew excited as well, with no trace of his earlier fatigue.
"Mr. Snyder, the area next to the planting site is suitable for building a large city. You can plant the tree right in the city."
Fandral added this from the side.
"Elisande, make camp where you are and draw a map of the surrounding terrain. Send it to Suramar City. I'll design the city myself."
"Yes, my lord. I'll have the scouts start exploring the area and drawing a map right away."
"I'll be waiting for your good news."
Snyder ended the call. Elisande directed the troops to set up camp while dispatching scouts to explore the terrain.
"I need to get moving too. There's still one final blessing missing." Snyder looked out the window toward Northrend.
Snyder summoned Maiev and told her that he would have to leave for Northrend for a while to find the Spellweaver.
"Why do you need to find the Spellweaver? We still need you here."
"I need him to give this seed its final blessing." Snyder took out the magic seed.
"Isn't it doing quite well now?" Maiev asked, looking at the seed, which was rich with several kinds of energy.
"No, it only looks good on the surface. Its magic energy is fading. I need the Spellweaver to bless it to maintain the balance between the different energies."
"Besides, I also want to see whether the Spellweaver's blessing can eradicate the magic addiction afflicting our people. The addiction has only been suppressed for now. If we don't find a way to eradicate it, every one of us will suffer from it."
Hearing why Snyder had to go, Maiev did not try to stop him again. She had seen elves reduced to a terrible state by magic addiction.
"Then go and come back soon. We need you here too."
"I won't be leaving just yet. I'll go after I've finished designing the construction plans for the capital."
"You've already found a suitable place to build the capital?"
"Elisande just sent me word. They've found a suitable place to plant the tree, and the area beside it is also suitable for building a city. Heaven is truly on my side."
Seeing her lover as happy as a child, Maiev smiled too. When Snyder was serious, he was more mature than anyone, but at times he really was like a child.
In Northrend, a group of elves stranded there by the explosion of the Well of Eternity were suffering terribly from magic addiction.
"What should we do? Magic addiction is already claiming the lives of our people."
"There's nothing we can do. The Well of Eternity exploded, and we lost our source of magic."
"I have an idea."
Everyone present was drawn to his words.
"I was wandering around nearby the other day and saw that the blue dragons know a way to absorb magic energy from crystals. We could go and beg them to teach us."
"Would that work?"
"The blue dragons won't hate us because of that war, will they?"
Everyone fell silent. They all knew how much the blue dragons had lost in that war.
"Even if it doesn't work, we have to try. Our people have already been reduced to a terrible state by magic addiction."
"What if the blue dragons refuse?"
"If they refuse, we'll deal with that then. First, let's send a representative to find them."
