Background / History
Joining Snyder Rain
Elisande was a Highborne noble during the elven empire and later led Suramar. Following the destruction of the Well of Eternity, her people suffered from magic addiction, and her own craving for magic began to increase. She met with Snyder Rain and Prince Tortheldrin to discuss relocating their people as the division among the elves deepened 1 2.
Initially wary of Snyder, Elisande pledged unconditional loyalty after he demonstrated that he possessed water from the Well of Eternity and promised to address their addiction. He assigned her to prepare a stable portal in Suramar, gather troops, and arrange supplies for migration to a continent he intended to raise from the sea 2.
Suramar’s Crisis and Rebellion
Elisande completed the portal preparations with Suramar’s chief portal mage, Oculus, and arranged temporary shelters for incoming elves. When Maiev Shadowsong arrived to assume control of the city’s defenses, Elisande placed Suramar’s troops at her disposal despite the nobles’ objections 4.
Her authority did not prevent abuses by the nobility. Nobles diverted magic crystals intended for commoners, while their private soldiers secretly killed Withered elves against her orders. Elisande had also allowed the nobles to retain military commands, leaving them forces with which to support a rebellion 5 6 7.
Her advisers, Vandros and Melandrus, urged her to reject Snyder and use the Eye of Aman’Thul to develop a replacement for the Well of Eternity. Elisande refused: she considered the prospect of further Withering during that research unacceptable and accused them of protecting their power rather than Suramar’s people 7.
Elisande helped Maiev gather the population for a demonstration of the restorative Well-water crystal and was subsequently entrusted with its defense. When the rebels attempted to seize it and capture Maiev, Elisande ordered them to stop. The Moon Guard defeated their forces, but the rebellion’s leader revealed the stolen Eye of Aman’Thul and attempted to detonate it. Elisande explained that it had been taken from storage without her knowledge 7 8.
Establishing the New Homeland
Snyder intervened, sealed the artifact and rebel leader, and raised the new continent. Afterward, Elisande accepted responsibility for failing to control her subordinates. Snyder reassured her that he trusted her loyalty and sent her to find a suitable location for the tree that would anchor their new home 9.
Elisande led Moon Guard alongside Fandral Staghelm’s Druids on the expedition inland. At Eresal Fort, she mediated between Fandral and Prince Tortheldrin, emphasizing the importance of bringing druidism to their people. Although frustrated by the expedition’s slow progress, she worked with Fandral to locate suitable terrain for the tree and capital, then organized a camp and dispatched scouts to map the surrounding area 10 11 12.
Administration of Sulages
Once the central city was more than halfway built, Maiev transferred Elisande to Sulages, the City of Knowledge. Her assignment was to balance relationships and competing interests among its spellcasters; Maiev regarded her standing as a Grand Archmage as particularly suited to that work 16.
When Snyder recruited Shandaral’s elves, Elisande prepared to receive them and supplied a magical signal to help him locate the portal’s destination. After their arrival, she welcomed their leader, Gul’dan Skystar, and directed the settlers to their arranged lodgings 16.
Appearance
- Skin: Pale violet at her introduction 1.
- Clothing: A golden armored dress that leaves large areas of skin exposed 1.
- Distinguishing accessories: Golden pauldrons on both shoulders and a golden crown-shaped hat 1.
Personality
Elisande places her people’s survival above preserving her authority. She willingly surrenders military command to Maiev and rejects her advisers’ proposal to retain independence when doing so would leave more residents vulnerable to Withering. Her refusal is firm even when those challenging her claim to be acting for her benefit 4 7 8.
She retains some attachment to her former associates, initially declining to strip the nobles of their benefits because of their past ties. Nevertheless, she recognizes their weakness and expects that Snyder’s kingdom will have little place for those who contribute nothing 4.
Elisande is conscientious about failure and eager to demonstrate reliability. She blames herself for her subordinates’ rebellion and treats the search for the new capital as an opportunity to prove her loyalty. That urgency also makes her impatient with Fandral’s delays, though she remains pragmatic enough to defend his importance when Tortheldrin antagonizes him 9 11 12.
