A Visit
For Mo Wen to say he had no thoughts at all about Song Yixue, the younger sister he had just acknowledged, would have been pure self-deception. But he was hardly infatuated with her, either. After all, they had only met once or twice and were still in the early stages of getting to know each other.
In this world, the only person he acknowledged as a friend was Song Xuan. His body's original owner's old friend had treated him with genuine kindness, laying bare his heart and soul for him! Since Song Xuan had specifically entrusted Yixue to him, it would not do for him to neglect his little sister.
While buying the Purple Qi Pill, Mo Wen had made a point of asking about pills that improved cultivation. From the Divine Pill Pavilion steward, he learned that although there were not many pills like the Purple Qi Pill, there were still three or four kinds, enough for him to alternate between them before Foundation Establishment.
Thus, besides a bottle of Purple Qi Pills, he also bought a bottle of Yellow Dragon Pills, planning to alternate between them and see how they worked.
After leaving the Divine Pill Pavilion, Mo Wen changed his appearance before heading to the Song Clan's talisman shop.
A month had passed, and business at the talisman shop had gotten off the ground. Mo Wen watched from the entrance for a while and saw that although there were not many customers, they came in a steady trickle. It was not too quiet.
For a new shop that had only recently opened, that was already very good business. Clearly, Song Yixue had some ability and was not one of those secluded cultivators who knew nothing of worldly affairs.
As soon as Mo Wen entered the shop, he saw Song Yixue sitting behind the counter, going over the accounts. Her brows were slightly knitted, her eyes misty. Who knew what was troubling her?
Seemingly sensing Mo Wen's gaze, Song Yixue looked up, only to find a cultivator she found quite unfamiliar. She felt a little displeased but did not show it. Plenty of people coveted her beauty. Getting angry over such a small thing was not worth it!
But just then, the somewhat discourteous cultivator walked straight up to her and looked at her with the hint of a smile.
"Fellow Daoist, what can I do for you?" Song Yixue asked coldly, her pretty face frosty.
"Fairy Song, it has been some days. Have you been well?" Mo Wen said softly.
Song Yixue's heart leaped with joy, and she immediately said, "So it was you, Fellow Daoist Wen. Please, come inside and talk."
She rose, left the counter, and led Mo Wen into a quiet room.
Once inside, Mo Wen immediately restored his original appearance.
"Brother Mo, I'm glad you're all right!" Song Yixue said, a little excited. During this time, she had been worried that Ji Yuan would take revenge on Mo Wen.
Ever since Ji Yuan had set his sights on her, Song Yixue had begun gathering information about him, gaining some understanding of his temperament and the way he did things. She knew full well that Ji Yuan would take revenge on Mo Wen like a madman and would not rest until one of them was dead!
"Of course I'm all right! But, Sister Yixue, you'd best not go out for the time being." Without concealing anything, Mo Wen told her directly about the attempt on his life.
"It must have been Ji Yuan! That man is a lunatic!" Song Yixue shouted angrily.
"He brought this calamity upon himself, and now he cannot live! Ji Yuan is as good as dead. No one can save him. You have my word." Mo Wen's voice was calm, but it carried an unquestionable resolve.
Although Song Yixue did not understand the reference, she felt an inexplicable excitement. At that moment, she felt that there was something special about Mo Wen.
"By the way, I've made some more talismans lately. Do you need any?" Mo Wen asked casually.
"That's wonderful! I was just worrying that we didn't have enough talismans in stock! Brother Mo, you'll have to make more talismans for me from now on, preferably high-grade ones!" Song Yixue said without standing on ceremony. She did not know when it had started, but asking Mo Wen for things had come to seem only natural to her.
"Take a look first." Mo Wen took out a stack of talismans and handed them to Song Yixue.
Song Yixue had only looked at a few when she exclaimed, "These talismans are all high-grade?"
Looking at the nearly hundred high-grade talismans in her hands, she could not keep her heart from racing.
"Mm. I've made a little progress in the Talisman Dao lately," Mo Wen said calmly.
Recently, his success rate for high-grade talismans had risen to thirty percent. Even if he spent only two hours making talismans each day, he could obtain at least two high-grade ones. A success rate like that was already comparable to those of some top high-grade talisman masters.
"Brother Mo, you're simply amazing! Once you reach Foundation Establishment, you'll certainly be able to become a second-tier talisman master!" Admiration shone in Song Yixue's eyes. A second-tier talisman master would undoubtedly be considered an important figure in Azure Luan Immortal City! Their status was far above that of an ordinary Foundation Establishment Late Stage Cultivator.
Hearing this, Mo Wen sighed softly and said, "Foundation Establishment isn't easy! I can only give it everything I have and leave the rest to heaven's will!"
"I believe you'll succeed, Brother Mo," Song Yixue said sincerely.
"May your words prove true. I'll prepare for a while longer, then find a place to attempt the breakthrough." Mo Wen took the opportunity to let her know that he would be looking for a place to break through to Foundation Establishment. That way, his next actions would follow naturally.
"Then please take extra care, Brother Mo!"
"You too. Be careful not to fall into one of Ji Yuan's schemes."
"Oh, and I'll take all these high-grade talismans. Here are sixteen thousand Spirit Stones. Please put them away, Brother Mo."
Mo Wen accepted the Spirit Stones, gave Song Yixue a few more words of caution, and then took his leave.
After returning home, Mo Wen activated the protective formation and began cultivating diligently behind closed doors.
Time flew, and another two months passed. On this day, Mo Wen refined the last of the medicinal power in his body and ended his cultivation for the day.
I've used up the Yellow Dragon Pills too. It's time to go out again. Mo Wen reckoned up the Spirit Stones in his Storage Bag and prepared to buy a few more bottles of pills to keep on hand.
Actually, I could stay in my cave abode and cultivate, then reveal a Foundation Establishment Realm cultivation when the time is right. I could just say I made the breakthrough outside the city, and no one would get to the bottom of it.
But when I actually break through to Foundation Establishment, I don't know whether a Spiritual Qi vortex will appear. I have to prepare in advance. Mo Wen recalled some rumors about Foundation Establishment and could not help feeling a headache coming on.
It was said that the stronger a cultivator's foundation, the larger the Spiritual Qi vortex produced when they broke through to Foundation Establishment. Mo Wen was walking the path of breaking limits. Perhaps, when the time came, he could become a Foundation Establishment cultivator as naturally as water flowing into a channel, without causing the slightest disturbance. Of course, an unprecedentedly enormous vortex might also appear. That would be bad, as it would surely draw the attention of those Golden Core cultivators!
I'll take it one step at a time! If there's no other way, I'll find an inconspicuous little market town to make the breakthrough. As long as no Golden Core cultivator sets their sights on me, I'll have enough strength to protect myself!
Mo Wen was quite confident in his combat strength. He was not even halfway along his path of breaking limits, yet he was already comparable to those long-established Foundation Establishment Early Stage cultivators. Once he truly broke through to Foundation Establishment, his strength would likely surpass that of an ordinary Foundation Establishment Late Stage Cultivator.
Thinking of it this way, he felt calmer. So strength was the foundation of everything! As long as he was strong enough, nothing would be a problem.
