Mother's Martial Lineage
The contract was drawn up in duplicate, and Fang Yu kept one copy.
Afterward, Associate Professor Tang led the other teachers downstairs.
Jiang Wei deliberately walked at the back and said to Fang Yu, "Fang Yu, I forgot earlier. Here's my personal contact information. Add me, and if you run into trouble or have questions at Huguang Martial Arts University, you can ask me."
"Thank you, Teacher Jiang," Fang Yu said.
With everyone watching, Fang Yu naturally wouldn't be foolish enough to reveal their connection in public... If Jiang Wei had been willing to make it public, he wouldn't have pulled Fang Yu into another office alone earlier.
After seeing Teacher Jiang Wei into the elevator,
Fang Yu quickly returned to the second-floor office. Most of the other students who had received guaranteed admission had already left; only Zhang Tao and Wang Mo were still there.
Of course, Yan Fu and a few other teachers were there too.
"Fang Yu."
"Fang Yu's back." Everyone looked at Fang Yu, then their gazes fell on the contract in his hand.
"Did you sign?" Yan Fu asked.
"Yeah." Fang Yu explained briefly, "An Elite Contract. I have to participate in actual combat."
There was no need to hide the Elite Contract. According to the contract... the list of elite students was published every year on Huguang Martial Arts University's official website.
Only the details of the contract had to remain confidential.
"Mm. Now that you've signed, focus on getting ready," Yan Fu said. Since Fang Yu had chosen to sign, he naturally had nothing more to say.
He had chosen his own path, and he would have to walk it himself.
"Since all three of you have chosen to participate in actual combat," the female teacher said directly, "the school will arrange a car to take you to Huguang Martial Arts University at eight the morning after tomorrow."
"You're both going?" Fang Yu asked in surprise.
All new students who had reached life level 20 could choose to participate in actual combat... Fang Yu hadn't expected both Zhang Tao and Wang Mo to go.
"I'm going to see what it's like." Zhang Tao smiled. "I hear Primordial Star is amazing. We're ordinary students with guaranteed admission, so we don't have any assessment requirements. We can just look around near Starry Sky Base and get some experience first."
"Right."
"I spoke to my dad just now," Wang Mo said. "He also said I don't need to join a team yet. I can just stay in the safe zone and find some low-level ferocious beasts to practice on, so I won't be all flustered when I get into real combat."
Fang Yu nodded.
Zhang Tao and Wang Mo had no assessment pressure at all. They were mainly going for the experience.
But he was different. As an elite student, he had to meet the minimum assessment requirements, so it was bound to be much more dangerous... The more he gained, the greater the risk.
It had always been that way.
"Go back and get some rest," Yan Fu said.
Fang Yu and Wang Mo returned to their dorm. One of the rooms was now empty; evidently, He Jiyu had packed up his things and gone home.
"What about that girl?" Fang Yu asked with a smile.
That morning, Wang Mo had brought a girl back with him.
"She's a student at the polytechnic next door. I told her to go back to school for now," Wang Mo said, shaking his head. "We're going to Primordial Star soon. I need to rest up and prepare properly. I can't waste any more energy."
"You do need to prepare," Fang Yu said with a nod.
"Oh, right, Fang. My dad's coming to school to see me tomorrow evening, and we're eating out. He told me to make sure I bring you along," Wang Mo said with a smile. "You've got to do me this favor."
"Your dad?" Fang Yu was inwardly surprised.
Wang Mo's father was no ordinary man.
They had been roommates for three years, but Fang Yu had never met Wang Mo's father.
"Yeah. Getting into an undergraduate program is a big deal, so of course he's coming." Wang Mo chuckled. "You got a direct admission spot, so I mentioned you when we spoke. My dad told me to make sure I brought you along."
Fang Yu thought for a moment. "All right!"
Back in his room,
Fang Yu thought for a moment, then placed a video call to his senior brother, Dong Xin. Soon, a hugely built man appeared on the screen, looking to be around thirty.
He had a full beard.
It was Fang Yu's senior brother, Dong Xin.
Dong Xin was an Advanced Martial Artist and currently managed a branch of the Iron Mountain Martial Arts Society. He looked fairly old, but he had only graduated from Modu Martial Arts University two years ago and was just twenty-four, not much older than Fang Yu.
Fang Yu called him senior brother, though they didn't have the same master. They belonged to the same generation, and Dong Xin had become a martial artist earlier... So they addressed each other as senior and junior brother.
Strictly speaking, Dong Xin's master was Fang Yu's mother's senior brother.
"Xiao Yu, finally decided to give me a call?" Dong Xin grinned. "You didn't even tell me yourself when Huo Yun fired you."
"Sorry, Senior Brother. I should have told you beforehand last time," Fang Yu said apologetically. "I was already planning to quit."
Dong Xin had been the one who arranged for Fang Yu to join a branch of the Iron Mountain Martial Arts Society as an assistant coach.
After he was fired last time,
Fang Yu had called Dong Xin, but the call hadn't gone through. He had left a message mentioning Xu Chenyang... Dong Xin hadn't pressed him for details and had promised to make arrangements for Xu Chenyang.
Only today
did Fang Yu call him again.
"Haha, I'm not blaming you. It was just a part-time job. Besides, with your Greater Mastery of Minute Subtlety, being an ordinary coach was beneath your abilities. Getting into an undergraduate program was what mattered," Dong Xin said with a smile. "The assessment ended today. How did it go?"
Fang Yu quickly
told him the general course and results of the exam.
"Subtlety in saber technique?"
"An Elite Contract from Huguang Martial Arts University? Good! Good! Good!" Dong Xin's eyes lit up. "You little rascal, you went and pulled off something huge without a word. Your senior martial uncle will be happy to hear it too."
Fang Yu's performance had indeed exceeded Dong Xin's expectations.
"Huo Yun called me specifically about you and mentioned that you'd reached Greater Mastery of Minute Subtlety," Dong Xin said. "I also knew that Senior Martial Uncle Jiang Wei was taking part in this undergraduate transfer assessment, so I told him about you... I didn't expect you to actually get a direct admission spot."
Fang Yu understood.
Jiang Wei really was his senior martial uncle.
"Huguang Martial Arts University is only one of 220 ordinary martial arts universities,
"but the college entrance exam can never determine everyone's future. There are always people who distinguish themselves after entering university and catch up to those who came out ahead before," Dong Xin said.
"Huguang Martial Arts University's Elite Contract!
"In terms of training funds and certain special resources, it's no worse than what an ordinary student at Modu Martial Arts University gets," Dong Xin continued. "Make good use of the opportunity. Don't let Senior Martial Uncle Jiang Wei down. He gave you that specially approved spot... If you don't perform well enough, you'll make him lose face."
"Understood." Fang Yu nodded.
Conversely, if he performed well, he could also prove that Senior Martial Uncle Jiang Wei had a good eye for talent.
"Senior Brother, what was the relationship between my mother and Senior Martial Uncle Jiang Wei like?" Fang Yu asked. This was important; he needed to understand the connections behind it.
His mother had belonged to a martial lineage.
But when she disappeared nine years ago, she hadn't even been an Advanced Martial Artist, and he had only been in middle school... The only people from his mother's lineage he had stayed in contact with were Senior Brother Dong and his senior martial uncle, Pang Hong.
Pang Hong was Senior Brother Dong's master and also an Advanced Martial Artist, but he had moved his whole family to New Moon more than ten years ago.
When Fang Yu was little, he had occasionally seen Senior Martial Uncle Pang Hong visit his home.
"I'm really not sure.
"But now that you've reached life level 20 and are about to go to Primordial Star for actual combat," Senior Brother Dong said, "you can be considered to have truly entered the martial artist circle.
"So I can tell you about our lineage.
"My grandmaster, your mother's master, should rank near the top among the many Earth Martial Artists in Huguang Province, and he's very senior," Senior Brother Dong said. "His name is Pei Fan.
"He used to teach at Huguang Martial Arts University and liked taking disciples.
"As a result, he has a great many disciples and followers. Some are extremely talented, and two of my senior martial uncles are already Earth Martial Artists. Others have ordinary talent... Whether he took someone as a disciple depended entirely on his mood.
"My master, your mother, and Senior Martial Uncle Jiang Wei were all disciples Grandmaster took in at Huguang Martial Arts University," Senior Brother Dong said. "But Senior Martial Uncle Jiang Wei is a personal disciple, and Grandmaster holds him in high regard."
