What Points Were Used For
"Why are you all here?" Fang Yu asked in surprise.
He knew Bai Chen, Xia Yao, and the others had already arrived on Primordial Star, but he hadn't expected them to be waiting here, as though they had known he would come.
"Haha, Fang Yu, once you created your civilization warrior profile and applied to join our squad, we knew you'd be here soon," Bai Chen said with a smile. "The base usually assigns members of the same martial artist squad rooms near each other. There were still vacant rooms on our floor, so naturally we could guess roughly when you'd arrive."
"So I called them all to my room," Bai Chen said with a smile.
Fang Yu understood.
"We only got here two hours ago ourselves," Xia Yao said with a smile beside them.
"All right, the welcome ceremony is over," Bai Chen said with a smile. "Fang Yu, Xia Yao will show you around and help you get familiar with your room. This afternoon, take him to the safe zone for combat practice, and tomorrow we'll practice working together..."
"No need. I can get familiar with it myself." Fang Yu instinctively wanted to refuse.
"Fang Yu, that's where you're wrong." Xia Yao's smile faded, and she said solemnly, "I'm the support, so this is my job to begin with. And you're a newcomer... My help can save you a lot of time and effort, which benefits the whole squad."
Fang Yu was taken aback.
"Xia Yao is right."
"Fang Yu, you need to get used to having Xia Yao around," Bai Chen said seriously. "A martial artist squad has different roles. Xia Yao is relatively weak in combat, so she has to take responsibility for things outside of battle."
"It's not so important at the base."
"But once we enter the wilderness, we need to pay particular attention to this. The combat members should rest as much as possible so they can fight at their strongest at critical moments, while the support handles as much as possible outside of combat... Everyone has their own duties."
"Remember."
"When Xia Yao is carrying out her duties, don't treat her as a girl who needs looking after. She's a member of the squad," Bai Chen said solemnly. "She has to do her part."
"If you don't let her do what she's supposed to, how can Xia Yao maintain her place in the squad in the long run?" Bai Chen looked at Fang Yu. "You're not looking after her. You're harming her."
Qin Yang's expression remained calm.
Xiong Meng nodded in agreement.
"Captain, I was wrong." Fang Yu realized his mistake. He had fallen into a habitual way of thinking, always feeling he should trouble others as little as possible.
But.
That wasn't how things worked in a martial artist squad... As martial artists who fought fierce beasts in life-and-death battles, every member of the squad was important and had to play a part.
Anyone who served no purpose had no place in the squad.
Soon, Bai Chen and the others left one after another, leaving only Fang Yu and Xia Yao.
They pushed open the door and entered Fang Yu's private room. It was large, covering more than a hundred square meters, but aside from a bed, a table and chairs, a refrigerator, and a bathroom, it had almost no furnishings.
What stood out most was the computer with its enormous screen.
"Fang Yu, don't blame the captain for being so blunt." Xia Yao was dressed rather lightly, revealing her long, pale legs. She smiled and said, "You're quite strong, but you went to college and got used to the orderly life of a city... On Primordial Star, if you encounter other martial artist squads or powerful beings from other planets,"
"Don't take pity on them because they look like women or children. That's a grave mistake."
"Sometimes, the weaker they look, the more deadly they tend to be," Xia Yao said. "The first rule of the wilderness is to never trust anyone completely except yourself."
"Mm, I understand." Fang Yu nodded.
"You're new, so you'll need to take out a loan to buy two basic equipment sets first," Xia Yao said. "Especially a weapon... Once your equipment arrives, I'll go with you to the safe zone for a trial this afternoon."
As she spoke,
she turned on the computer.
"This computer can connect to Blue Star's internet and let you contact people there, but the delay is very long. If you send a message, it might take half an hour for the other person to receive it," Xia Yao said. "More importantly, it can connect to the 'Primal Network.'"
"Enter your civilization warrior account and verify your identity."
After Fang Yu logged into his account,
whoosh!
His basic information appeared on the large screen:
Civilization warrior: Fang Yu Rank: Trainee Civilization affiliation: Blue Moon Current base: Iron Wall (sub-base 12) Primal Points: 200 Remaining Primal Points loan allowance: 100
"Where did you get 200 Primal Points?" Xia Yao looked astonished. "Is your loan allowance 300 Primal Points?"
"No, it's just 100." Fang Yu shook his head. "Martial Uncle Jiang Wei gave me these 200."
On the way to the room, Fang Yu had already added Jiang Wei's "civilization warrior code."
But he hadn't expected Jiang Wei to send the 200 Primal Points so quickly.
"Fang Yu, Teacher Jiang really is good to you," Xia Yao couldn't help saying. "If you exchanged those for Star Coins, you could get 200,000."
"And if you exchanged Star Coins for Primal Points, it would take two million Star Coins!" Xia Yao said, full of feeling.
"Mm." Fang Yu nodded involuntarily.
Primal Points
were a special currency used on Primordial Star. Everything there, including treasures, could only be purchased with Primal Points.
Primal Points and Star Coins could be exchanged for each other... One Primal Point could be exchanged for 1,000 Star Coins.
But exchanging Star Coins for Primal Points cost 10,000 Star Coins per point. There also seemed to be a limit: if someone exchanged too many, Star Coins would no longer be accepted.
Therefore,
under normal circumstances, no martial artist would exchange Primal Points and Star Coins for each other.
"When we venture into the wilderness, we fight powerful fierce beasts, so our weapons, combat suits, helmets, boots, and the like all have to be tough enough," Xia Yao said. "And in case they get damaged, we usually have to buy a spare set, along with some special potions and so on."
"All of those cost Primal Points."
"Ordinary martial artists start out without points, so they can only take out loans," Xia Yao said with a smile. "The annual interest is twenty percent. If you borrow 100 Primal Points this year, you have to pay back 120 within a year."
"That's daylight robbery!" Fang Yu couldn't help saying.
Even ordinary bank loans didn't charge such high interest.
As she spoke,
Xia Yao clicked through the computer, bringing up numerous major categories on the screen: "weapon sets," "individual weapons," "potions and pills," "cultivation aids," "technological items," "cultivation inheritances," "special items," and more.
But Fang Yu was only a Trainee Warrior.
Most of the categories were grayed out.
Only weapon sets and individual weapons could be selected.
Xia Yao clicked "individual weapons," revealing dozens of subcategories, including sabers, spears, shields, and combat suits, with a dazzling array of equipment.
"Can't we bring this equipment straight from Blue Star?" Fang Yu asked with a frown.
"No."
"Weapons obtained on Primordial Star can be taken back to Blue Star... But most cold weapons produced on Blue Star aren't allowed on Primordial Star." Xia Yao shrugged. "I don't know why. Those are simply the rules."
"Remember, don't count on getting lucky. If you're caught breaking the rules, the punishment is severe."
"Potions, high-energy food, and things like that aren't prohibited, though, so I bought a batch in advance while I was at school. If you're poisoned in the wilderness and need an antidote... we'll settle the price after you use it." Xia Yao smiled. "Don't worry, I won't charge anything extra."
Ten minutes later,
with Xia Yao's guidance, Fang Yu spent 75 Primal Points on a high-quality intermediate martial artist set and another 30 points on an ordinary set. He also chose a saber as his weapon and filled in his various body measurements.
"As a newcomer, you don't have anything right now, so it's best to buy a set outright."
"The combat suit, weapon, and everything else are included in the set."
"With the high-quality intermediate martial artist set, even when you become a level 30 advanced martial artist, the combat suit will still be barely usable," Xia Yao said with a smile. "Most newcomers, like me, don't dare borrow too much at first and can only buy an ordinary set. The combat suit and boots don't perform as well."
"When you're fighting fierce beasts, at a critical moment, a difference in performance from something like a combat suit can mean the difference between a minor injury and a serious one."
"Use the high-quality set and keep the ordinary set as a spare," Xia Yao said. "After the month of combat practice is over, all the equipment can be sold back to the starry sky base. Unopened items can be sold for the original price, and used equipment can also be sold to the base as long as it isn't completely broken, though a wear-and-tear fee will be deducted."
"I see." Fang Yu smiled slightly.
His initial concern had been that he wouldn't be able to return the equipment after buying it... Since he could, he didn't have to worry about wasting it.
Only an hour later, the equipment Fang Yu had purchased was delivered to his room by a robot. Fang Yu quickly opened the "high-quality intermediate martial artist set."
He put on the combat suit, helmet, boots, and other equipment. Everything fit perfectly.
Fang Yu slung the shield and saber across his back.
All the equipment was blackish green.
At a glance, Fang Yu looked just like a "black warrior."
"Good equipment really does make a difference!" Xia Yao came over, her eyes lighting up. "You really do look handsome! Come on, let's eat first, then leave the base and enter the safe zone."
