Personality

Her teasing manner also appears when she jokingly calls him a “little freak” after his unusually composed first kill 39 42 43.

When Fang Yu initially declines her help, she explains that saving a newcomer time and effort benefits the entire squad. She also researches other teams because the information may prove useful in the wilderness 41 44.
Her caution is practical rather than absolute. She warns Fang Yu not to underestimate opponents who resemble women or children, yet later questions Bai Chen’s continued precautions after they recognize a group of classmates. Bai Chen answers by explaining that robbery and murder still occur despite school and alliance prohibitions 41 50.

History
Meeting Fang Yu
Xia Yao first appears in a martial arts room with Bai Chen, apparently absorbing Star Power. At Jiang Wei’s request, she activates the testing equipment for Fang Yu’s recruitment assessment. She is surprised to discover that his life level is slightly higher than hers, and more astonished when he reveals that he has not awakened an Astral Aspect 37 38.
After learning about his Subtlety-level saber technique, she and Bai Chen recognize him as a valuable recruit. His spending on cultivation and connection to Jiang Wei lead them to imagine that he comes from a wealthy, powerful martial family 38.
Introducing Fang Yu to Primordial Star
At Iron Wall Base’s No. 12 Sub-base, Xia Yao helps Fang Yu settle in, use the Primal Network, and buy his initial equipment. Bai Chen uses Fang Yu’s reluctance to accept her help to explain why every squad member must be allowed to fulfill their assigned role 41.
She then accompanies Fang Yu into the safe zone, selects his first opponent, and collects the materials from his kills. His composure, endurance, and rapid improvement turn her initial surprise into admiration 42 43 44.
After their hunting session, Xia Yao handles the sale of their spoils and directs the entire payment of 1.56 Primal Points to Fang Yu. She subsequently explains that her scouting has already earned her a separate 0.2 Primal Points through the base’s contribution system 45 46.
Great Spirit Mountain Expedition
On August 20, Xia Yao enters the wilderness with the full Crimson Flame Squad. She navigates, carries their supplies, and coordinates an ambush against a level 22 Leaping Flying Bear. Her warning about a charging level 24 bear alerts Bai Chen before it reaches him; Fang Yu and Qin Yang then help defeat it 48 49.
By August 23, the squad has gathered enough valuable materials to return to base. Xia Yao estimates their haul and leads the return journey. When they encounter another squad, she recognizes its captain, Dong Qi, as a classmate, though Bai Chen maintains precautions throughout the exchange 50.
