A Meeting in the Park
"Boss, who is that guy?"
Zhou Wenyuan pushed up his gold-rimmed Glasses, his gaze behind the lenses carrying an undisguised confusion and a hint of barely perceptible wariness, as he looked at the tall young man not far away— Lü Yi —whose behavior was clearly different from that of ordinary people.
Lin Feng arranged to meet him in this secluded park to discuss how to legitimately and discreetly collect and "launder" the funds he controlled from various assassins and sources, in order to support his subsequent plans. This was a matter that required highly careful and professional discussion.
However, the atmosphere at the scene became somewhat... eerie because of the presence of a third person.
At this moment, the two of them sat on an old bench in the park. The afternoon sun filtered through the sparse leaves of the plane trees, casting dappled shadows on their feet. Lawyer Zhou, dressed in a suit and tie, sat upright even outdoors, holding a tablet computer containing preliminary plans. Lin Feng, on the other hand, was dressed in simple casual clothes, his expression calm.
Lü Yi, however, did not sit. He stood like a gatekeeper, about three to five meters behind the bench, his body ramrod straight, but his eyes were constantly scanning the surroundings, sharp yet... unfocused?
Sometimes he would stare thoughtfully at the sparrows hopping on the branches, sometimes he would frown at the clouds drifting across the sky, and sometimes he would turn his gaze to the children playing in the distance, his lips twitching nervously from time to time, as if he were silently muttering something.
This doesn't seem like a normal bodyguard; it's more like some kind of performance art.
Lawyer Zhou tried to bring the focus back to the main topic. He handed the tablet to Lin Feng and prepared to explain the first proposal—the feasibility of using an offshore trading company for fund transfers.
Just then, Lü Yi, who was standing to the side, seemed to receive some special signal, and her eyes suddenly locked onto the lawn in front of her.
Lawyer Zhou, thinking there might be someone suspicious there, followed Lü Yi's gaze. It turned out to be a discarded, shiny aluminum can.
Suddenly, Lü Yi moved with incredible speed, almost creating a gust of wind, and dashed out!
Lawyer Zhou stopped abruptly, staring in disbelief at the scene.
Lü Yi darted onto the lawn and precisely bent down to pick up the can. He didn't throw it away immediately, but instead did something that made Lawyer Zhou's mouth twitch—he solemnly put his ear close to the can's opening and shook it vigorously a few times, making a hollow "clattering" sound.
Then, something even more unbelievable happened. Lü Yi picked up the aluminum can from the ground, which was stained with some unknown substance, and suddenly raised it to her mouth, as if she was about to drink from it!
Lawyer Zhou grimaced at the sight, his stomach churning, and he almost cried out to stop it. This was so unhygienic! And so bizarre!
However, the expected scene of Lü Yi tilting his head back and drinking heartily did not occur. He simply tilted his head back, his arm remaining in a tilted position, but the opening of the can cleverly deviated from his mouth, and a few drops of liquid, whose origin was unknown, arced past his head and spilled onto the grass.
After making that feint, Lü Yi's expression turned serious and earnest, as if he had completed a sacred ritual. He carefully placed the empty can on the flat ground, then lifted his foot and stomped on it forcefully, once, twice, until it was flattened. Then, he opened his bulging deliveryman's backpack.
Lawyer Zhou thought he was finally going to get rid of the trash, and although the process was a bit complicated, the result was still environmentally friendly.
But Lü Yi's actions once again exceeded his comprehension. Instead of picking up the crushed can, he took out a pair of brand-new white cotton gloves from his backpack, carefully putting them on to ensure that every finger was covered.
Then, he bent down and, as if handling a fragile item, picked up the flat can with his gloved fingers. With standard marching steps, he walked to the recycling bin a few steps away and accurately threw it into the "recyclable" bin.
After doing all this, he took off his gloves, carefully folded them, put them back in his backpack, and then jogged back to where he had been standing to continue his all-around, no-blind-spot "vigilance" patrol, as if the smooth operation he had just performed was just part of his daily work.
Lawyer Zhou remained speechless throughout, feeling as if his worldview had been shaken to some extent. He didn't understand it, but he was deeply shocked.
He stiffly turned his head, his gaze somewhat vacant as he looked at Lin Feng again, repeating the question that had been interrupted earlier, word for word, with even deeper doubt:
"Boss, who exactly is that guy?"
Lin Feng, head down, quickly browsed the financial consolidation plan meticulously prepared by his Lawyer Zhou on his tablet. Without looking up, he replied in an extremely flat tone:
"My bodyguard."
"A bodyguard?" Lawyer Zhou's voice rose slightly. He couldn't help but turn back to scrutinize Lü Yi's tall but eccentric figure, and asked hesitantly, "He... knows kung fu?" He tried to find a reasonable explanation for this strangeness, such as that reclusive masters often have quirks.
Lin Feng's gaze remained fixed on the plan, his finger swiping across a piece of data on the screen, and he continued speaking without looking up:
"No."
He paused, then finally raised his eyelids, glanced at Lawyer Zhou, and spoke in a completely calm tone, as if he were simply saying that the weather was nice today.
He's mentally ill.
"..."
Attorney Zhou Wenyuan, an elite figure known for his sharp wit in court and masterful business negotiations, was utterly stunned. His facial muscles stiffened, and his Glasses nearly slipped off his nose. He glanced at Lin Feng, who looked completely at ease, and then at Lü Yi, who was making strange hand gestures at the air again not far away. It took his brain several seconds to process this simple sentence.
Mental illness... bodyguard...
The combined power of these two words was no less than that of a bomb dropped into his mind.
He nodded blankly, uttering a meaningless syllable. "... Oh."
He decided to stop asking the question. His boss's thoughts and his standards for selecting "talent" were indeed beyond the comprehension of an ordinary person like himself. He figured it was better to focus on his strengths in law and finance.
He silently turned around and refocused his attention on the tablet in Lin Feng's hand, but out of the corner of his eye, he would still involuntarily glance at the bodyguard, Lü Yi, who was still dutifully carrying out his "all-round, no-blind-spot, psychopathic vigilance."
