Background / History

Control of Cell 107

Scar had spent years in the underworld, participating in turf wars and collecting protection money. By Lin Feng’s arrival at the detention center, he controlled Cell 107, occupied its best sleeping spot, and commanded Skinny Monkey and Iron Head 2 24 27.

He treated the accusation against Lin Feng as grounds for contempt, assigned him the sleeping space beside the toilet, and ordered him to scrub it. His group subsequently subjected Lin Feng to food theft, degrading chores, insults, and physical abuse. Scar also ordered Lin Feng to wipe the inmates’ slippers with his uniform 2 3 6.

As Lin Feng began showing defiance, Scar escalated the abuse to preserve his authority. He directed his followers to punish Lin Feng, but became increasingly unsettled by his victim’s cold stare. During one confrontation, Scar abandoned an attempt to force him to drink filthy cleaning water and instead ordered him to wipe his blood from the floor 13 14 15.

Defeat by Zheng Qi

When Zheng Qi entered Cell 107, Scar recognized him as dangerous and initially avoided confronting him directly. Instead, he signaled Skinny Monkey to humiliate Lin Feng and test the newcomer’s reaction. Zheng Qi immediately attacked Skinny Monkey, identifying Lin Feng as his “big brother” 16.

Scar demanded an explanation and threw a punch when Zheng Qi rushed him. Zheng Qi took the blow without stopping, unbalanced Scar, and struck him in the crotch and face with his knees. Scar was left unconscious with a crushed nose and was dragged out by guards. Lin Feng then occupied his former sleeping spot without opposition 16 17.

Submission to Lin Feng

Scar returned with new facial scars and initially settled beside the toilet. Nevertheless, he challenged Lin Feng after learning that Zheng Qi was in solitary confinement and Qian Er had been moved elsewhere. He dismissed rumors of Lin Feng’s powerful background and questioned what protection he had left 24.

Lin Feng answered by identifying Scar’s wife’s workplace and his daughter’s school, class, and recent examination score. Realizing that his family could be reached outside the detention center, Scar abandoned his challenge. At Lin Feng’s command, he knelt and touched his forehead to the floor before returning silently to the worst sleeping space 24.

Service and the Account Arrangement

Lin Feng later used Scar’s family to bring outside funds into the detention center without involving his own parents. Because only relatives could deposit money into an inmate’s account, his agents gave Wang Cuihua cash to place in Scar’s account. When she attempted to retain roughly half for household needs, another agent intervened and ensured she deposited everything 25 26.

After hearing his wife’s account, Scar recognized Lin Feng’s involvement and offered to arrange anything he needed. He subsequently obtained better meal portions, cigarettes, toiletries, and other comforts while keeping the purchases discreet 26 27.

Scar also became an intermediary for Lin Feng’s growing influence. He spread suggestive stories about lawyer Zhou Wenyuan’s connections, identified notable inmates, collected gossip, and accepted gifts for redistribution among the cellmates. These activities helped turn Cell 107 into an information hub 30.

Appearance

Personality

Scar bullies those he considers weak and uses public humiliation to maintain authority. He interprets Lin Feng’s silence as either weakness or provocation, while resistance prompts harsher punishment. His contempt for the alleged molestation contrasts with his approving references to robbery and fraud as more “manly” crimes 2 5 15.

His aggression is tempered by self-preservation. He hesitates before dangerous opponents, becomes unnerved by Lin Feng’s composure, and submits when his family’s safety is implicitly threatened. Fear later develops into admiration: Lin Feng’s money and outside surveillance convince him that his new superior possesses influence far beyond his own street-level experience 15 16 24 27.

His wife and daughter are his clearest vulnerability. He deliberately conceals details about them and immediately worries about their safety when Wang Cuihua appears distressed during a visit 24 26.
