Those Who Would Achieve Great Things Must First Learn to Play the Grandson
Lin Yi sat in the chair in front of the office desk, and Hu Hailin placed a cup of freshly brewed tea before him.
"President Lin, this is pu'er from my collection. Would you care to try it?"
"Mm."
Lin Yi nodded. The old man at home drank tea, so he knew a little about it too.
He raised the teacup to his lips and exclaimed, "This is good tea."
"I'll give you a bag of it later."
Hu Hailin spoke ingratiatingly. Although the tea was worth a million per jin, it was far less useful than winning Lin Yi's favor.
"No need. Let's hurry up and sign the contract." Lin Yi raised an eyebrow and hurriedly replied. He had drunk the tea, and he was eager to get home to see his daughter.
Unable to curry favor even when he tried, Hu Hailin gave a sheepish smile and quickly placed the contract on the desk in front of Lin Yi.
As for the tea Hu Hailin had offered him, Lin Yi had no shortage of it either. He had piles of tea leaves at home worth a million per gram; he simply wasn't used to drinking them.
After graduating from high school, Lin Yi had interned at his family's company for a while. He had worked his way up from an ordinary employee to general manager on his own merits. If his father hadn't been the chairman, the company might well have changed hands.
He looked over the contract and, seeing no problems, signed his name with a flourish.
"President Lin, I'll show you around the company."
"President Lin Sr. asked me to do that too."
Seeing that the contract had been signed, Hu Hailin came over to Lin Yi, bowing and scraping.
Hearing that his own father had ordered it, Lin Yi decided to take a quick look around. That way, his father would have nothing to say about it.
"In that case, lead the way."
"Right away, President Lin."
Hu Hailin answered with a smile. When the executives behind him saw President Hu humbling himself so much, they couldn't help giving him a thumbs-up in their hearts. Awesome. No wonder President Hu has been so successful in his career.
Those who would achieve great things must first learn to play the grandson.
President Hu is a role model for us all!
*...*
Meanwhile, in the product selection area, an old woman in her thirties, dressed like a gaudy flower, was spraying spittle as she spoke.
"Su Wanqing, open those big innocent eyes of yours and take a good look at what you wrote in your proposal!"
"The Erhai refrigerator and the Polar no-makeup cream-didn't I say their quality was too poor? How did they still end up in the proposal?"
"Director Jiang, didn't you..."
Su Wanqing felt terribly wronged. She had only added those two products to the proposal after asking Jiang Lan about them.
"What's with all the 'you, you, you'? You're so pretty, but what's your brain for? Is it filled with paste?"
"Get this straight: I call the shots in this group. If I say you're wrong, you're wrong."
"If you don't want to work here, get lost now."
Hu Hailin, who had just proposed a tour of the company, turned livid when he saw the scene. Didn't this show that he couldn't keep his subordinates in line?
Lin Yi, meanwhile, saw that the girl being scolded was the same one he had met on the school stairs that morning.
He didn't know why, but seeing the girl being scolded made his heart ache a little. Perhaps it was an illusion. Then Lin Yi glanced at Hu Hailin.
An old fox like Hu Hailin understood at once and walked over to the two women.
When Jiang Lan saw the company's president, Hu Hailin, arrive, she immediately became exceedingly respectful.
"President Hu, my subordinate didn't do her job well, so I gave her a few words of criticism."
"Is there something you need?"
"Interns don't have much work experience. As her superior, you should give her more guidance. Don't be like a shrew cursing in the street. This is a company; you need to mind its image."
"Yes, yes, yes. You're right to reprimand me, President Hu." Jiang Lan hurriedly answered with a smile, then turned and shot Su Wanqing a glare.
Afraid that Jiang Lan would make trouble for her and keep her from getting off work on time, Su Wanqing thought of what was at home... She would just have to bear it.
She stepped forward and said apologetically, "President Hu, I wasn't careful enough with my work. Sister Lan was right to scold me."
"Since you're both being understanding, I won't say anything more."
"Everyone, get back to work."
After dealing with the matter, Hu Hailin hurried back to Lin Yi's side and said with a broad grin, "President Lin, how about we go take a look backstage at the livestream?"
"No. You'll be in charge of the company for now. Contact me if anything comes up."
With that, Lin Yi headed for the company entrance, and the large group of executives behind him escorted him to the elevator.
"Take care, President Lin."
"Mm."
Lin Yi nodded and closed the elevator doors. Watching the floor numbers slowly descend, he grew anxious.
"Stupid company. Why rent a place on such a high floor? The first floor would be so much more convenient," Lin Yi grumbled, eager to see his daughter sooner.
Once in the car, he missed Tangtang so much that he drove fast the whole way.
It was almost noon by the time he got home. After opening the door, Lin Yi headed straight for the bedroom. When he saw that the little one was fast asleep, he tiptoed into the room.
"Meilan, how long has my daughter been asleep?"
"She's been asleep for a while. I reckon she'll wake up soon."
"Oh. I'll watch Tangtang. Go get some rest."
Zhang Meilan replied softly. Now that Lin Yi was back, she could go cook.
"Brother Lin, what would you like for lunch? I'll make it for you."
"Whatever you think is best. Anything's fine with me."
Seeing that, Zhang Meilan stopped bothering him. Besides postpartum meals, she was also good at home cooking. She then quietly slipped out of the room.
Lin Yi's eyes were fixed on his darling daughter. He lay down gently on the bed and propped up his head, watching the little one.
"Oh~"
"Mm~"
The little one scrunched up her brows and squirmed. Lin Yi thought she was about to wake up, but Tangtang was only stretching.
Looking at the little one, who looked as though she had been carved from pink jade, Lin Yi felt his heart melt. He wished he could give her the very best of everything.
"Waaah-waaah-waaah-"
A sudden, unexpected cry rang through the room.
Zhang Meilan heard the crying even in the kitchen. With flour still covering her hands, she hurried over.
"Brother Lin, what's wrong with the baby?"
"She peed."
Lin Yi checked the baby's diaper and found it wet. Suddenly, his expression changed. It seemed something had gotten on his hand too.
He pulled it out and took a look. It was "gold."
Although Lin Yi had been a little fastidious about cleanliness before, he didn't mind Tangtang now. She was his own daughter, after all!
When Zhang Meilan saw it, she didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Brother Lin, next time you check the baby's diaper, remember to undo the adhesive tabs on the sides. That way you won't..."
"Mm, I was careless."
Lin Yi couldn't help laughing. He had actually made a fool of himself in front of a professional. He then went through the whole routine and put a fresh diaper on Tangtang.
With her bottom dry and comfortable, Tangtang squirmed about happily.
"Hua~"
"Hu~"
"Mm~"
The little one's eyes were wide and round, her dark eyes bright. She would surely grow up to be a beauty. Lin Yi couldn't help wondering if his darling daughter looked like her mother.
Perhaps it was a case of thinking of something and having it appear: Lin Yi's phone beeped on the bed.
There was news about the matter he had asked a subordinate to look into. After opening the photos and information, Lin Yi said in surprise, "It's her!"
