Even Skipping Meng Po's Soup Wouldn't Have This Effect
Su Wanqing sat in the chair. Although she wasn't the one getting a shot, she was even more nervous than Tangtang.
The nurse was a middle-aged woman. The hospital had made thoughtful arrangements and hadn't assigned any interns to the department that vaccinated babies.
Babies were precious these days. If the needle went in on the first try, all was well, but if it took several attempts and still missed, the parents would surely curse them out.
They were all parents themselves, and no one wanted their child to get hurt.
"Wah~"
"Mmh~"
"Heh~"
Tangtang hadn't realized she was in danger yet. She stared at the syringe in the nurse's hand.
A newborn calf feared no tiger. Tiantian even tried to reach for the syringe.
Seeing Tangtang, the nurse said gently, "Little one, you mustn't touch this!"
The nurses couldn't help loving soft, squishy little babies, but the work they did was sure to make the babies hate them.
Seeing how unafraid Tangtang was of strangers, and how adorable she was, the nurse couldn't have been more fond of her.
But happy times were always short-lived. The nurse had drawn the vaccine into the syringe and promptly instructed, "Roll up the sleeve."
Su Wanqing was so nervous that she rolled up her own sleeve.
The nurse didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "The baby's sleeve."
"Oh."
Su Wanqing nodded, then bared Tangtang's fair, tender little arm.
Afraid that Tangtang would squirm from the pain the moment the needle went in, Su Wanqing held her little hand in place and comforted her. "Be good, Tangtang. It'll be quick, all done in a moment!"
Tangtang bobbed her little head. She couldn't understand what Su Wanqing was saying.
Her round little eyes stayed fixed on the syringe until she saw it prick her arm.
Just as Su Wanqing and Lin Yi held their breath, they heard no crying from Tangtang.
Even the nurse was puzzled. Tangtang was the first baby she had ever seen who didn't cry during a shot.
Little did they know, Tangtang was so absorbed in watching the syringe that she had forgotten to cry.
The plunger went down quickly, and the shot was over in a few seconds. Seeing the puzzled looks from the nurse, Su Wanqing, and Lin Yi, the little one seemed a little at a loss.
Then, the very next second, Tangtang actually burst into a giggle.
"Hee-hee~"
Su Wanqing was a little worried. Other babies cried when they got shots, but her baby actually laughed. This... even skipping Meng Po's soup wouldn't have had this effect, would it?
"Nurse, why isn't my baby crying?"
"Maybe the little one isn't afraid of pain."
The nurse smiled as she spoke. That had to be the only reason.
Su Wanqing nodded, then had Lin Yi sit on the stool.
Compared with Tangtang, they were more worried about Yuanyuan. Although he wasn't crying now, he was very restless.
His chubby little hands kept flailing, as though he thought doing so would get him out of the shot.
Watching the two little ones' completely opposite reactions, the nurse didn't know whether to laugh or cry. As expected, most babies were still afraid of pain; one like Tangtang was only one in ten thousand.
Lin Yi held Yuanyuan's arm steady beforehand, and the nurse seized the right moment and plunged the needle into it.
The next instant, Yuanyuan's vigorous cries traveled from the vaccination room into the hallway. As expected, the babies outside had already started crying along with him.
At that moment, Lin Yi felt the shot was taking forever. Although it lasted only a few seconds, it still felt as long as several centuries.
Seeing the nurse pull out the needle, Lin Yi hurriedly picked Yuanyuan up and comforted him. "Be good, Yuanyuan. You're a little man."
"Your little sister didn't even cry when she got her shot. You're the big brother, so you have to set a good example."
Lin Yi kept talking, and Yuanyuan kept crying, neither disturbing the other.
In the end, Lin Yi resorted to his trump card. "If Yuanyuan isn't good, he won't get any milk."
Sure enough, when Yuanyuan heard Lin Yi's words, his crying grew a little quieter.
Lin Yi had figured it out: to deal with a baby, he had to threaten their food supply.
After his shot, Yuanyuan couldn't wait to escape. His little hand kept pointing outside.
To Yuanyuan, the vaccination room was a place of heartbreak.
Tangtang, however, was the opposite. Her eyes remained fixed on the syringe, and when she saw the nurse slowly draw liquid into it, she giggled.
Even as they were leaving, Tangtang babbled as though trying to get the nurse's attention.
"Ah~"
"Eh~"
"Mmh~"
Then Tangtang even patted her own little arm, as though she wanted to tell the nurse, Give me another shot!
After the vaccinations, Lin Yi and the others went home.
By the time they arrived, the babies were asleep. Perhaps because they hadn't slept all morning, the little ones were sleeping soundly.
As he laid the two babies on the bed, Lin Yi still remembered how Zhang Meilan had taught him to adjust their sleeping positions.
To give babies perfectly shaped heads, changing their sleeping positions was essential.
The little ones were fast asleep. Lin Yi turned them onto their sides, then tucked a small pillow behind each of them to keep them in position.
Su Wanqing sat beside him. Seeing that Lin Yi knew even more than she did, she couldn't help exclaiming, "Honey, you're amazing!"
"I've got something even more amazing. Want to try it...?"
Sure enough, once the babies were asleep, Lin Yi started getting improper.
