The Little Cotton-Padded Jacket Is Letting in a Draft
After breakfast, the group set off for the Heavenly Treasure Garden.
Yesterday, Su Wanqing had said her father liked watching antique appraisal shows. Lin Yi figured he probably liked antiques, and the system had previously given him the Golden Pupils for a limited time.
The Heavenly Treasure Garden in Magic City was the equivalent of Panjiayuan in the Imperial Capital. Everyone there sold antiques, some genuine and some fake. It all depended on whether you could tell them apart.
Before long, they arrived at the Heavenly Treasure Garden, where plenty of people were hoping to pick up overlooked treasures.
"Ooh~"
"Whoo~"
"Eh~"
In another unfamiliar place, Tangtang's round eyes darted back and forth. Seeing so many people outside, the little girl was delighted.
She liked lively crowds. If she hadn't still been sleepy yesterday morning, her eyes would surely have been as wide as copper bells.
Unlike Tangtang, Yuanyuan was quiet. He didn't seem interested in a place like this.
Once they arrived, the group began strolling around.
It was Su Wanqing and Zhang Meilan's first time in a place like this, and their little eyes were full of curiosity.
As they passed by and heard the stallholders' asking prices, Su Wanqing was stunned.
She tugged on Lin Yi's arm and whispered, "Honey, the stallholders here ask hundreds of thousands or even millions at the drop of a hat. It's so expensive."
"The most expensive piece of porcelain my dad ever bought cost less than two thousand. We can just spend five thousand and buy him a vase."
"Anyway, my dad can't tell the difference, hehe."
Su Wanqing muttered with her little lips pursed. If Su Youzhi had heard that, he would have been heartbroken. The little cotton-padded jacket he had raised from childhood had suddenly started letting in a draft.
Sure enough, thousands of miles away, Su Youzhi did feel a strange draft and shivered out of the blue.
He had simply found antique appraisal shows interesting and gradually come to think he had mastered the craft. That was why he had spent two thousand on a large jar.
Later, Su Youzhi had hoped to make a fortune selling the jar and sought out an expert specifically to verify whether it was genuine. Unsurprisingly, it was a modern handicraft.
After that, the incident became a source of amusement for Fang Yan and Su Wanqing.
Hearing Su Wanqing carefully budget for his sake, Lin Yi didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He pinched her nose. "Silly girl, don't worry. We'll definitely buy something 'good and inexpensive.'"
He said it with a smile, then activated the Golden Pupils the system had given him. With his cheat switched on, he could see the antiques clearly, though he had yet to spot a genuine one.
The Heavenly Treasure Garden was vast, and Lin Yi was in no hurry. He accompanied Su Wanqing as she looked here and there.
However, when Su Wanqing squatted down at a roadside stall and picked up a piece of porcelain, the system's notification nearly deafened Lin Yi.
[Ding! Ding! Ding!] [Yuan blue-and-white porcelain identified] [Value: extremely high]
After hearing the system's notification, Lin Yi couldn't help cursing under his breath. Damn it, that nearly gave me a concussion.
The stallholder, dressed in black, was lying leisurely in a rocking chair. He only raised his eyes for a look when customers arrived.
"Honey, what do you think of this jar? We've looked all around, and its design is the prettiest."
Squatting there, Su Wanqing happily showed Lin Yi the design on the jar.
But when she asked the price, she lost her composure on the spot.
"Boss, how much is this jar?"
"Young lady, you have a good eye. That jar you're holding is a large Yuan blue-and-white figure jar depicting Guiguzi Descending the Mountain."
"If you really want it, you can take it for five hundred thousand."
After hearing the price, Su Wanqing immediately put the jar down and said sarcastically, "Don't let me keep you, boss. I won't bother you anymore."
Seeing the customer about to leave, the stallholder hurried forward to stop her. "Hey, young lady, we can negotiate the price."
"This jar is Yuan blue-and-white porcelain. How much are you willing to pay?"
Su Wanqing held up five fingers, and the stallholder thought she was willing to pay fifty thousand yuan.
A rush of wild joy swept through him. He had only acquired the large jar in Su Wanqing's hands that morning, for just three hundred yuan. If he could really sell it for fifty thousand, he would make a killing.
"Fifty thousand? Fifty thousand works too. I'm only parting with it so painfully because I can see you like it."
"Not fifty thousand. Five hundred."
"Young lady, you can't bargain like that. How about going a little higher?"
Su Wanqing shook her head. She felt even five hundred was too much. At a ceramics market, she could buy seven or eight large jars for that.
Seeing the stallholder hesitate, Su Wanqing prepared to pull Lin Yi along to look elsewhere.
They had barely taken two steps when the stallholder called out, "Five hundred it is! The jar's yours."
"Here, honey, you pay."
Su Wanqing gave the instruction. Lin Yi was the one buying the large jar, and she intended for him to give it to Su Youzhi.
They had a gift without having to spend so much money. Perfect.
After paying, Su Wanqing linked arms with Lin Yi and left with a grin.
"Honey~, just give this large jar to my dad."
"He wouldn't appreciate anything too expensive. He likes down-to-earth things."
Lin Yi hadn't expected Su Wanqing to have bought this "cheap" jar for him to give his future father-in-law. It seemed his wife was afraid he would buy something too expensive, so she had taken matters into her own hands.
Looking at his wife, who was thinking of him, Lin Yi spoke, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
"Honey, this jar is actually genuine."
"Huh? What? Genuine?"
Shocked, Su Wanqing covered her mouth, afraid that bad people might set their sights on the jar she had just bought.
In all her years, Su Wanqing had never been this lucky. Even if she had picked up something genuine, though, she might not have recognized it. Fortunately, Lin Yi had the Golden Pupils.
Realizing she had bought a treasure, Su Wanqing blinked her big eyes and quietly asked Lin Yi, "Honey, since this jar is genuine, how much could it sell for?"
"Hmm... it should be worth tens of millions, at least."
"Oh m-m-my... heavens! Um... how about we buy another jar for my dad? It wouldn't be very nice to give him one we bought so cheaply."
A jar bought for five hundred yuan could be resold for tens of millions. Su Wanqing figured her dad wouldn't recognize it as genuine anyway, so wouldn't that be a terrible waste of a treasure? She therefore suggested buying another jar for Su Youzhi.
Lin Yi knew his wife had learned the large jar's value and couldn't bear to give it to his father-in-law anymore.
Seeing how Su Wanqing treated the large Yuan blue-and-white jar like a treasure, Lin Yi nodded. With the Golden Pupils, he couldn't end up buying a fake.
"All right, then let's look some more."
Having gained experience the first time around, Su Wanqing focused on large Yuan blue-and-white jars. Somehow, when she reached another shop, the large jar she picked up was also genuine.
The moment Su Wanqing picked up the large jar, the system chimed in Lin Yi's mind.
[Ding! Ding! Ding!] [Yuan blue-and-white porcelain identified] [Value: extremely high]
They had acquired the previous jar for five hundred, and this one cost only four hundred yuan.
This time, Lin Yi didn't tell Su Wanqing the jar's value right away. He was afraid that if his wife knew the price, she wouldn't bear to give it away again.
Having found an antique, Lin Yi and the others left the Heavenly Treasure Garden.
After they had driven some distance, Lin Yi finally told Su Wanqing the truth. "Honey, the large Yuan blue-and-white jar you bought later is genuine too."
"What? That one's genuine too?"
"Honey, let's go back and pick another one. How can you buy such a cheap large jar for my dad?"
If Su Zhidong knew what had happened today, he would surely say, "Daughter, well, thank you so much..."
