The Villain Who Didn't Play by the Rules
Taking three steps in two, Li Zhi quickly closed in on the two remaining attackers.
Before they could react and pick up their guns, Li Zhi was already in front of them.
He had expected a fierce fight, but Li Zhi took them down in just a few moves. The two were all show and no substance!
The weapons in their hands were practically just for decoration.
With that, Li Zhi had taken out all four attackers in business class.
But the danger was not over. As he had rushed over, Li Zhi had already spotted another person in the cockpit-another guy with a gun!
Li Zhi had ended the fight so quickly that the attacker in the cockpit hadn't even had time to react.
When Li Zhi grabbed an unconscious attacker and held him in front of himself as he entered the cockpit, the man inside hurriedly pulled the captain, who was operating the plane, in front of him and pointed a gun at his head.
"Kid, trying to be a hero?"
Li Zhi was about to talk to him and stall for time while looking for a way out, but then he saw that the man's eyes were full of madness.
This is bad!
Bang~!!!
Blood splattered everywhere, and the captain died on the spot.
"Haha, everyone's going to die! All of you, die!!!"
With that, the attacker shoved the muzzle into his own mouth.
Bang~!!!
The same scene played out twice in quick succession.
Li Zhi was completely stunned. He hadn't even had a chance to speak.
The villain was far too professional. He had left Li Zhi, the good guy, at a complete loss, without giving him a chance at all!
Li Zhi tossed aside the unconscious man he was holding and walked over.
The captain was definitely beyond saving, but there was still someone sitting in the copilot's seat. It was odd that he hadn't moved despite all the commotion, but what if he was all right?
Clinging to a sliver of hope, Li Zhi went over to the copilot's seat.
As soon as he got close, that last sliver of hope was utterly extinguished.
A large dark red patch stained the chest of the copilot's white shirt, and his chest had clearly stopped rising and falling.
Still unwilling to give up, Li Zhi placed his fingers on the copilot's carotid artery. He didn't even need to feel carefully to know that the copilot was dead-truly dead. His body had already gone cold.
What now?
Li Zhi felt somewhat lost and unwilling to accept it.
Although every extra day he lived in this life was a gift from heaven, he had worked toward one goal for nearly twenty years, only to be stopped at the doorstep. Of course he was bitterly unwilling to accept it.
Unwilling to resign himself to fate, Li Zhi sat down in the captain's seat and tried to operate the plane.
Before boarding, Li Zhi had even fantasized about the plane getting into trouble and him stepping up to save the day, just like in the TV shows and novels from his previous life. He would fly the plane safely back, surrounded by countless flowers and applause.
But when he actually sat in the pilot's seat, he found his mind completely blank. He didn't even know where to put his hands and feet.
Over the years, he had indeed learned plenty of theory and watched plenty of instructional videos, but those were all about fighter jets!
Fighter jets and commercial airliners were both aircraft, but they were still very different, with little that carried over from one to the other.
And theory was ultimately just theory. It was like getting a driver's license: you could score a hundred on the written test, but if you had never actually practiced driving, you still wouldn't know how.
Li Zhi recognized most of the instruments and could read their data. He also recognized the control column and throttle levers, since all of those appeared in books and were part of the theory.
But he was at a complete loss when it came to operating them. After all, he had never actually done it before.
The airliner was flying fairly steadily, and Li Zhi didn't dare touch the control column or any of the other buttons. If he made a mistake, he would only hasten his death.
"Are you... are you the air marshal on this plane?"
A shaken voice sounded behind him.
Air marshals: legend had it that every plane had a plainclothes air marshal responsible for secretly protecting everyone aboard.
It wasn't a legend; the position did exist, but not every plane had one.
Li Zhi didn't know whether this plane had an air marshal, but he knew he wasn't one.
It was no wonder the flight attendant had misunderstood. In a violent incident like this, ordinary people couldn't get away fast enough. There was no way they would come forward, let alone take down so many attackers single-handedly and barehanded.
By now, all the flight attendants had gathered at the cockpit door, their faces filled with the joy of having survived.
Sunlight happened to stream into the cabin at that moment, as though heaven were signaling that everyone had been given a new lease on life.
With no clouds to block it, even the early morning sunlight was scorching, but Li Zhi's heart was ice-cold.
There wasn't the slightest hint of happiness on his face. He didn't even want to pay the flight attendants any attention and felt utterly despondent.
