Background / History
Exile and Attempted Reconquest
Walker belonged to the gnoll tribe that occupied Emerald Valley before Wentesi’s arrival. Wentesi killed his father, the tribe’s leader, and expelled the gnolls because most refused to obey. Walker felt little grief for his father: under gnoll custom, the death had offered him a chance to become chieftain. His resentment instead grew from losing the valley and nearly starving in the wilderness 3.
After becoming a level-four warlord, Walker led seventy-two young, strong gnolls toward the valley’s fishing area. He expected to defeat the small red wyrmling and reclaim the territory. He also sought a hidden treasure that his mother had said could raise its holder’s class and life levels—the same treasure she credited with his father’s rise to leadership 3.
Wentesi’s sunlight-enhanced appearance ruined the attack. Mistaking him for a golden dragon over ten meters long, Walker abandoned resistance and claimed that his force had come to seek refuge. Wentesi accepted their submission, planted potentially lethal Hairy Head Sun Law Power in their bodies, and assigned them labor under kobold supervision. Even after recognizing the dragon as Wentesi, Walker rationalized surrender as another route to the valley’s treasure and a possible Dragon Blood Blessing 3 4.
The Dragon Blood Blessing Scheme
Walker initially made himself useful by leading the gnolls in killing two badger beasts that raided the vegetable garden, offering the carcasses to Wentesi. His success unsettled Kru, who regarded the stronger gnoll leader as a threat to his own position 8 15.
After advancing to level five through a devil’s assistance, Walker requested a Dragon Blood Blessing. He argued that the territory needed him to resist a level-six Beast-Transformed Leopard while Wentesi entered his approaching slumber. He presented the request as loyal service, but his insistence implied that Wentesi had little choice 10 11.
Wentesi discovered the concealed sealing ring and the unnatural depletion beneath Walker’s advancement. Rather than grant dragon blood, he bound Walker in golden chains and forcibly converted him into his first Field of Merit 11 12.
Conversion and Service
The conversion purged Walker’s devil blessing and reduced him to level four. Wentesi’s uneven application of Law Power caused extreme pain and permanently damaged Walker’s brain tissue and sea of consciousness. He awakened as a fanatical worshipper, repeatedly calling Wentesi “Buddha” 12 14.
Wentesi then tested him against the Beast-Transformed Leopard. Walker held the level-six creature in place despite wounds exposing bone, withdrawing only when ordered. Wentesi killed the leopard and assigned Walker to treat those it had injured 15.
Walker and Kru subsequently received cultivation instruction, became the first converts of the Great Love Dragon Religion, and were ordered to spread its teachings. Before leaving to sleep, Wentesi entrusted them with guarding Emerald Valley. Their cultivation continued supplying him with power throughout his seven-month dormancy, even across worlds 16 17 19 20.
When Wentesi returned, Walker recognized him despite his transformed appearance and ordered the alarmed bearfolk and minotaurs to lower their weapons. His later cultivation performance was less satisfactory: Wentesi considered removing him as a Field of Merit until a change to the Formless Muscle-Changing Sutra revealed his aptitude for body refinement 28 36 45.
Appearance
- Thick fur and green eyes: His fur concealed the black sealing ring worn on his left claw 11.
- Clawed hands: His wolf-like claws gouged furrows into the ground during his conversion 12.
- Golden halo: Hairy Head Sun Law Power produces a faint golden glow over his fur when empowering him 15.
- Temporary devil features: During the purge, black horns emerged from his head and his eyes turned dark red. Both changes disappeared when the devil’s power was destroyed 12.
Personality
Before his conversion, Walker was ambitious, resentful, and opportunistic. He wanted the resources and authority of a chieftain more than revenge for his father. He bullied frightened followers into formation, boasted about his supposed talent, and interpreted Wentesi’s silence as weakness. When confronted with overwhelming power, however, survival took precedence over pride 3 4 11.
Conversion replaced his former cunning with unconditional loyalty and religious fanaticism. The damage also made his thinking rigid: he could follow a straightforward command, but too many instructions confused him. His sincere questions repeatedly interrupted Wentesi’s founding sermon until Wentesi forcibly silenced him 14 17 36.
Abilities & Skills
Gnoll Warlord
Walker’s class emphasizes leadership and command rather than close-quarters combat 15.
- Uses a warlord mental skill, shouted orders, and intimidation to rally frightened gnolls 3.
- Retains enough command ability after conversion to control the territory’s alarmed inhabitants 28.
- Can fight at close range, but his class is not specialized for desperate personal duels 15.
Hairy Head Sun Empowerment
Law Power imparted by Wentesi enhances Walker’s physical performance and carries purifying properties 15.
- Makes him several times faster than an ordinary gnoll 15.
- Improves his toughness and burns attackers that contact his golden aura 15.
- Allows him to dispel a minor Beast Transformation Curse, prompting Wentesi to assign him treatment duties 15.
- Does not eliminate the limits of his level: against the level-six leopard, his injuries worsened and his eventual defeat was only a matter of time 15.
Field of Merit Connection
As Wentesi’s first Field of Merit, Walker is bound to the Golden Land and its master 12.
- Wentesi can communicate with him mentally and directly control his body, down to individual movements and his heartbeat 12 16.
- Commands imposed through the bond cannot be defied 14.
- The connection transmits cultivation and understanding in both directions, allowing direct instruction 16.
- Walker pays a cultivation tax of one-tenth of his absorbed Greater Yang Qi; this transfer continues even when Wentesi is in another world 19 20.
Cultivation Methods
- Hairy Head Sun Method / Great Love Dragon Scripture: Cultivates Greater Yang Qi, but Walker progresses slowly despite diligent practice 19 36.
- Formless Muscle-Changing Sutra: A fourth-grade Buddhist body-refining method. Walker reaches its second layer within days, and his cultivation tithe also advances Wentesi’s practice of the sutra 36 45.
Equipment / Items
- Vine whip — Used to punish fleeing gnolls and enforce formation during the attempted invasion 3.
- Level-two black sealing ring — Concealed beneath the fur on his left claw and housed the devil responsible for his level-five advancement. After subduing the devil, Wentesi returned the ring to Walker with an absolute command to protect it and never remove it 11 12 14.
Relationships
- Wentesi — Former enemy and current master. Killed Walker’s father, expelled his tribe, and later converted him into an absolutely loyal Field of Merit 3 12 14.
- Kru — Fellow subordinate and later fellow Field of Merit. Originally viewed Walker as a rival and encouraged his Dragon Blood Blessing request in hopes that Wentesi would kill him 15 16.
- Abishai Devil — Contractual benefactor behind Walker’s temporary advancement. Expected him to obtain a Dragon Blood Blessing and threatened penalties for failure; was later subdued by Wentesi 11 12 13.
- Father — Former gnoll chief, killed by Wentesi. Walker had little affection for him and initially welcomed the opportunity to succeed him 3.
- Mother — Told Walker about Emerald Valley’s hidden, level-raising treasure before her death 3.
