Background / History
Ren Qing began as a low-profile Martial Human Realm cultivator in the Fire Refining Hall. He studied the Chronicles of the Thatched Cottage, learning that cultivation progresses through Martial Human, Half-Corpse, Ghost Envoy, Yin Messenger, Yang God, and Heavenly Eerie realms. He also learned that different Arts create different aberration paths and that high-realm cultivators can leave behind Eerie Objects and Forbidden Zones upon death 10.
He advanced the Eye-less Method to Double-Pupil User in secret, concealing the change from his colleagues while resolving to eliminate the Hundred-Eyed threat. Rather than rush toward the costly Twin Nightmare Ghosts advancement, he chose to investigate the mutation paths of his Arts first 13.
His early cultivation combined the Eye-less Method, Divine Feet Scripture, Human Skin Book, and Taotie Method. Song Zongwu cautioned him that rapid advancement without a stable foundation could lead to Dao annihilation, despite Ren Qing’s unusual aptitude 33.
Ren Qing became a reserve Jailer and later a full member of the Jailer Hall. He developed the Prison Within the Stomach, accumulated lifespan through cultivation and resource gathering, and used the Ghost Market to acquire materials, trade techniques, and refine artifacts 68 77 111 112.
He repeatedly investigated the Dao of Non-action Dojo and Monastery. After discovering their fabricated Arts, Heavenly Dao Egg practices, and the Gate of Non-action, he acted to contain the threat and later infiltrated the monastery under Lai Gou’s identity. He ultimately sought to preserve the monastery’s traditions while integrating it with the Jailer Hall and supplying its members through the Immortal Market 115 117 259 263.
Appearance
Ren Qing’s appearance changes substantially with his Arts, aberrations, disguises, and alternate bodies.
- In the Immortality Forbidden Zone, he operated under the identity Wang Shanlu 318.
- His worm-body cultivation caused explosive physical growth, eventually giving him a body over two meters tall, heavily defined musculature, and shark-like metallic teeth 317.
- By later events, he is described as a three-meter-tall strongman 372.
- His Eye-less Method manifests as double pupils on his forehead 319.
- The Human Skin Book can alter his skin tone and transfer physical injuries that do not involve his bones 158.
- His Immortal Body, Nurgle Plague Dream, can cause living beings and environments to mutate 564.
Personality
Ren Qing is calculating, patient, and intensely pragmatic. He evaluates Arts by their risks, resource demands, and compatibility with his existing cultivation instead of pursuing power indiscriminately. He rejected several dangerous manuals—including Heavenly Dao Worm, Gu, and Corpse Dog methods—before selecting Shadowless Ghost for its strategic utility 132.
His caution coexists with decisive ruthlessness. He spends lifespan when necessary, infiltrates hostile factions, captures dangerous cultivators, and uses deception to conceal his objectives. At the same time, he protects people connected to him, including Lin Cheng, Song Zongwu, Wang Ling, and the wider Jailer Hall 63 320 482.
He is also inventive. Ren Qing creates fabricated Arts, adapts cultivation systems to new environments, develops artifact-refining methods, and plans infrastructure for the Ghost Market, Eternal Prison, and Jailer Hall 128 223 371 480.
