Background / History
Tang San travels with Xiao Wu to enroll at Shrek Academy. From their first encounter, he senses that Su Yi is extremely dangerous, keeps Xiao Wu behind him, and remains prepared to strike if necessary 65. At Shrek, he demonstrates an aptitude for battlefield coordination, assigning roles to Su Yi, Xiao Wu, Ning Rongrong, and Zhu Zhuqing during their test against Zhao Wuji 73.
He is Yu Xiaogang's disciple and the son of Tang Hao, the Clear Sky Douluo. Tang San's lineage, Twin Martial Souls, Ten Thousand Year fourth Soul Ring, and Soul Bone make him a target for Spirit Hall 145. Su Yi also deduces that Tang San is likely a reincarnated Tang Sect disciple because of his hidden-weapon techniques, poison knowledge, and Zhuge Repeating Crossbows 96.
After the conflict in Spirit City, Tang Hao removes Tang San from Yu Xiaogang's tutelage and personally trains him. Tang San absorbs a Head Soul Bone, trains for two years, and evolves Blue Silver Grass into the Blue Silver Emperor 151 156 196. His hatred of Su Yi and Spirit Hall intensifies after Tang Hao loses an arm, Xiao Wu leaves, and Shrek suffers severe losses 150 151.
Tang San later saves Yu Xiaogang in the City of Slaughter but arrives too late to prevent his teacher's humiliation and death. Yu Xiaogang dies in Tang San's arms, leaving Tang San consumed by guilt and vengeance 196. After Xiao Wu is killed during Spirit Hall's expedition into the Star Dou Great Forest, Tang San escapes through the Rakshasa God's intervention and begins pursuing the Rakshasa God Assessments 221 245.
Appearance
Following the evolution of his Blue Silver Grass into the Blue Silver Emperor, Tang San undergoes a dramatic physical change that initially makes Xue Qinghe struggle to recognize him. He is described as exceptionally handsome, though his attempts to recreate his former smile become stiff and unnatural after his experiences in the City of Slaughter 196 213 214.
- His appearance changes substantially after his Blue Silver Emperor evolution 196 213.
- The Eight Spider Lances can emerge from his back in combat 323.
- During later confrontations, he wields the black-purple Rakshasa Scythe 323.
- His godhood is marked by ten Soul Rings: seven black, two red, and one gold 294 316.
Personality
Tang San is observant, cautious, and highly protective of Xiao Wu. He immediately distrusts Su Yi, identifies him as a serious threat, and positions himself between Su Yi and Xiao Wu during their first meeting 65. He is also a capable planner, naturally taking command when the Shrek students need to coordinate in battle 73.
His losses gradually turn this caution into obsession. After Yu Xiaogang's death, Xiao Wu's death, and the destruction of Shrek, he becomes increasingly driven by hatred for Su Yi and Spirit Hall 196 221 309. He struggles to restrain his killing intent, kills a passerby for praising Su Yi, and later loses control of Divine Slaughter's Domain badly enough to kill a hunter and his son 211 222.
Tang San is also ambitious and calculating. While publicly promising to help Dai Weisi unify the continent, he privately intends for the Clear Sky Sect to rule instead 265. He is willing to sacrifice Clear Sky Sect experts to advance his second divine inheritance 295 300.
