History

Rise on the Profound Spirit Continent

The Human Race established its supremacy through generations of cultivation and accumulated inheritance. A demon-extermination war ten thousand years before the conquest of Ming Province devastated continental demon bloodlines and left no Demon Lord alive there. Humans subsequently controlled the best Spirit Veins and much of the continent’s cultivation resources 210 302.

By Shi Jian’s early Golden Core years, the Wei, Jin, and Liang kingdoms were firmly under human control. High-tier Demon Beasts had nearly disappeared, while surviving demon mountain ranges often functioned as managed pastures where human factions raised beasts for exploitation. Shi Jian survived within this order through his position as a clan-protecting spirit beast and his usefulness to competing human factions 112.

Failed Attempt to Escape the Sealed World

Five thousand years before Shi Jian discovered the Grand Purity Sect’s secret records, the Human Race possessed more than seventy Nascent Soul cultivators across Wei’s three sects, Jin’s five schools, and Liang’s four major sects. They assembled in the Kunyuan Mountain Range to discuss destroying the Kunyuan Secret Realm’s core formation and breaking the restrictions that prevented further advancement 402.

The undertaking collapsed before it began. Participants feared losing the realm’s treasures and life-extending medicines, provoking its suspected Spirit Transformation master, or destroying valuable resources without actually removing the world’s restrictions. Successive Grand Purity Sect masters continued investigating the continent’s apparent imprisonment, but their predecessors’ proposed escape remained unrealized 402.

War and Territorial Collapse

Event Chapters Consequences
Coordinated sea beast offensive 288 Ao Qin organized attacks against the Clear Blue, Liang, and Wei kingdoms, with the participating clans intending to plunder human resources.
Human infighting opens the frontier 298 War among Grand Purity, Supreme Purity, and Liang’s three sects shattered the continental balance and encouraged Yuan Shan’s northern offensive.
Destruction of Ming Province 300 302 Demon tribes destroyed villages and cities, consumed tens of millions of mortals, and uprooted hundreds of cultivation lineages and four Golden Core sects. The province became the Myriad Demon Domain.
Exhaustion after the great war 309 310 Four human kingdoms remained, but their reserves were severely depleted. Nearly half the continent became impoverished of Spiritual Qi, worsening resource shortages and cultivation conditions.
Hunter Decree 328 333 Shi Jian sent second- through fourth-level bear demons to kill human cultivators of equivalent strength. Human Nascent Soul leaders refused to intervene, avoiding the Demon Kings’ prepared ambush.
Loss of Huang and Transformation provinces 354 The One Qi Dao Gate surrendered territory. Shi Jian preserved the sect as a buffer against overseas Devil Cultivators and a means of preventing human unity.
Failed counteroffensive 378 386 Human leaders proposed concentrating their strength against the Myriad Demon Domain, but the invading army was killed or scattered. Shi Jian ordered further western conquests.
Fall of the Supreme Purity Sect 386 389 Flood Dragon attacks and the ensuing fighting destroyed the sect. The Human Race was reduced to the Wei Kingdom’s last two provinces, surrounded by four demon domains.
Confinement to one province 394 After Ancestor Profound Purity’s death, the Heavenly Ape Domain seized another province. The demon domains deliberately preserved the last province as a captive human population.
Destruction of the last continental defenders 399 401 402 Hanyue and Qingxu stayed to defend the remaining humans but were killed by Shi Jian. The Grand Purity Sect fell, leaving the continent’s humans without Nascent Soul protection.

The final province was preserved for exploitation rather than mercy. The demon domains agreed to regulate annual hunts there, treating rapidly reproducing humans and cultivators’ flesh as renewable resources. This reversed the earlier human practice of maintaining Beast Pasturing Mountains 394.

Some human Nascent Soul cultivators escaped overseas rather than defending the continent. Before attempting to leave the sealed world, the Demon Kings resolved to eliminate these survivors and the overseas Devil Cultivators; by their final preparations, Shi Jian described the seven Demon Kings as the world’s remaining highest-level fighting forces 402 404 405.

Power in the Nine Realms

The continental defeat did not represent the destruction of humanity as a whole. The Human Race held sole dominion over the Human Realm and possessed Emperor Lianyuan, a supreme expert of the Dao of Refinement. Its artifact-making inheritance and high-level protectors sustained its position among the major races 497 498 500.

Human Realm leaders also sought a second supreme expert through the Sword Dao. The Immortal Slayer Dao Venerable intended to benefit from Sword Origin’s death in the Beast Realm, acquire the vacant Sword Origin Fruition Rank, and combine it with his existing Immortal Slayer attainment 440.

By the later confrontation with his disciples, he had acquired three Sword Origin foundations and expected to complete his preparations for a Sword Dao Dao Embryo within one to two thousand years. He rejected retaliation against the Lightning Bear Line and ordered the Hidden Sword Dao Palace sealed for two thousand years, prioritizing his Dao advancement over revenge 638.

Abilities & Skills

Cultivation and Inherited Knowledge

  • Systematic teaching: Human sects preserve scripture repositories, cultivation manuals, teachers, and orderly lines of inheritance. These contrast with the instinctive cultivation on which many demons originally depend 124.
  • Spirit Root-based methods: Cultivation methods are organized around metal, wood, water, fire, and earth, with practitioners selecting methods suited to their Spirit Roots 17.
  • Specialized techniques: Recorded arts include Fire Bullet, Water Shield, Earth Escape, and Wind Blade Consecutive Strike. The Sun Clan’s wood-attribute inheritance emphasizes vitality restoration, prolonged combat, and manipulation of plant vitality 4 17.
  • Transferable principles: Shi Jian adapted human spiritual-power circulation into demon cultivation methods. He later used human Space Dao inheritances by changing their cultivation pathways while retaining their underlying principles 10 124 373.
  • Local advancement ceiling: Grand Purity’s records identify peak Nascent Soul Middle Stage as the limit imposed by the Profound Spirit Continent’s sealed conditions 402.

Reproduction and Recovery

  • Rapid population growth: The five human clans within the Myriad Demon Domain grew from slightly over ten thousand people to one million in nearly a century 337.
  • Fast development of exceptional cultivators: Shi Jian states that outstanding humans can reach Foundation Establishment around twenty and Core Formation by one hundred—much faster than many demons 337.
  • Numbers offset rare aptitude: Although Spirit Roots are uncommon, a sufficiently large population continually produces new cultivators. Shi Jian considered this a long-term threat even after the demons’ territorial victories 337.
  • Uneven individual potential: Among the Dao Spirit Human Race’s later population of tens of millions, most people still possessed mediocre aptitude and struggled with Qi Refining and Foundation Establishment thresholds 635.

Artifact Refinement and War Creations

  • Leading refinement tradition: The Human Race’s mastery of the Dao of Refinement surpasses that of other races; the Spirit Race is described as second only to humanity in this field 498 542.
  • Widespread Dao Artifacts: Nearly every human Spirit Transformation cultivator possesses a Dao Artifact. This equipment advantage helps humans suppress other races despite not being exceptionally strong individually at the same cultivation stage 498.
  • Life-saving preparations: Human Spirit Transformation cultivators carry numerous protective measures, while disciples of powerful lineages also benefit from influential patrons 500.
  • Warship origins: Warship-type war creations originated with the Human Race. Its more advanced military creations include Dao Artifact-grade war immortal cities 542.

Spirit Plants and Supporting Crafts

  • Standardized crafts: Human inheritances encompass pill refinement, talisman making, formations, artifact refinement, and Spirit Plant cultivation 17.
  • Agricultural productivity: Shi Xiao judges human Spirit Plant cultivation unrivaled across the realms; the Beast Realm’s medicinal-herb yields are described as less than one-tenth of humanity’s 527.
  • Construction and land development: Dao Spirit specialists can build palaces, locate favorable terrain and earth-vein spiritual essence, and lay out spirit fields and medicinal gardens 528.
  • Value to demon rulers: Human technical expertise makes cultivators useful as farmers, refiners, formation maintainers, and administrators even under hostile demon regimes 311 528.

Society and Factions

Continental Sects and Clans

Faction Role
Supreme Purity Sect A major human power that employed Shi Jian for his strength. Its later destruction was decisive in the loss of the Clear Blue Kingdom 112 389.
Grand Purity Sect Preserved extensive records of the Kunyuan Secret Realm and the sealed continent. Its attempts to protect its own interests contributed to the wider human collapse 379 389 394 402.
One Qi Dao Gate Resisted demon expansion, surrendered two provinces, and attempted to seal its border against trade with Heavenly Demon City 349 354.
White Cloud Temple Provided Shi Jian with an institutional cover while benefiting from his combat strength. Its cultivation and beast-taming methods became foundations for his own system 112 124 158.
Sun, Zhou, Zhao, Yun, and Lu clans Human communities retained within the Myriad Demon Domain. Their isolated descendants came to worship demons as a sacred race 337.

Division, Trade, and Collaboration

  • Competing sect interests: Human leaders repeatedly feared that helping another sect would strengthen a future rival. Even the proposed alliance against Shi Jian remained burdened by accusations and limited commitments 378 379.
  • Trade across enemy lines: Heavenly Demon City exchanged demon remains and rare medicines for human pills, Law Artifacts, and formation equipment. Merchants and Rogue Cultivators continued smuggling despite the One Qi Dao Gate’s blockade 349.
  • Defection under pressure: Entire cultivation lineages joined demon rulers when they could no longer survive in human territory 349.
  • Resistance despite defeat: Hanyue and Qingxu chose to remain with the final continental population rather than abandon it, accepting responsibility for their sect’s failures 399.

Branches and Transformed Populations

Evergreen Race

  • Origin: Split from the Human Race millions of years ago and became the dominant race of the Mystic Realm 434 437.
  • Cultivation: Includes major Sword Dao, Metal Dao, and physical-body traditions 437.
  • Appearance: Closely resembles humanity, but many members have bluish skin; some possess fine metallic scales at their temples 437.
  • Relations with humanity: Despite shared ancestry, Human Realm leaders sought to profit from the death of the Evergreen Race’s Sword Origin Dao Venerable. Human and Changqing lightning cultivators nevertheless formed a common faction at a later inter-realm gathering 440 598.

Dao Spirit Human Race

The Dao Spirit Human Race survived as a small, secluded Dao Realm branch specializing in Spirit Plants, refinement, formations, and construction. Under Chen Yan, its strongest members consisted of three Nascent Soul cultivators and dozens of Golden Core cultivators. The threat posed by passing Spirit Transformation experts led the clan to submit to Shi Xiao’s Lightning Bear Line 527 528.

Development Chapters Details
Submission to Shi Xiao 528 Chen Yan accepted protection and future relocation. Shi Xiao promised protection rather than enslavement and left a token carrying Spirit Transformation Dao might.
Relocation to the Beast Realm 591 A portion of the population was transported to the Divine Firmament Plain as servants and dependents. Some were subjected to brutal forced mining.
Bloodline integration 628 Shi Fangting promoted marriages between Dao Spirit women and Nascent Soul Bear Kings, producing the Dao Spirit Bear Humans.
Population expansion 635 The Dao Spirit Human Race exceeded tens of millions, supplying the agricultural workforce of the Divine Firmament Plain.

Demon Humans and Half-Demons

  • Ancient origin: During High Antiquity, demons forcibly infused captive human cultivators with demon blood, changing their bloodlines and meridians to create Demon Humans 187.
  • Strength advantage: These beings combine human intelligence with demonic physiques. The flood-dragon transformation described by Purple Firmament at least doubles combat strength in its transformed state 187.
  • Marrow-Cleansing Sainthood Transformation Instruction: Shi Jian’s revision requires his Essence Blood and binds practitioners to him. Transformation becomes irreversible at Foundation Establishment 187.
  • Heavenly Demon Sainthood Transformation Instruction: A later version preserves reason and permits continued cultivation while placing practitioners’ lives, deaths, and souls under high-ranking demons’ control 337.
  • Dao Spirit Bear Humans: Descendants of human–Lightning Bear unions possess powerful bodies, lightning affinity, human intelligence, and dexterous hands. They become guards, administrators, formation warriors, and technical specialists, while pureblood Lightning Bears retain the ruling positions 628 635.

Relationships

  • Demon Race — Historic enemies whose exploitation of one another becomes a central territorial struggle. Human dominance reduces demons to materials and spirit pets; the later demon conquest subjects continental humans to comparable captivity 112 302 394.
  • Shi Jian — Initially depends on human contracts, resources, and factional rivalries to survive. He later conquers human territory, retains useful human communities, and develops transformation methods to control them 112 311 337 524.
  • Lightning Bear Line — Protects and employs the Dao Spirit Human Race, but also imposes servitude. Later bloodline integration makes Dao Spirit Bear Humans a supporting warrior and administrative population within its hierarchy 528 591 628 635.
  • Spirit Race — Humanity’s closest stated competitor in refinement, ranking second to it in that field 542.
  • True Dragon Clan — Participates in high-level arrangements surrounding Sword Origin’s fate, sending two Dao Venerables to ensure that the Immortal Slayer Dao Venerable does not intervene in the Beast Realm 440.
