Background / History

Otherworldly Origin and Hostage Years

Ye Jinyu’s soul originates outside his current world. He privately identifies Venerable Great Fortune as the being who sent him there. For ten years, he lives at the Xiao Clan’s Qixia Mountain as an unwilling hostage, alongside Wang Yan. His residence also serves the Ye Clan’s contingency planning and its ties with the Xiao Clan 1.

His mother, Xiao Qingyao, keeps him under her protection and away from clan disputes. Although exceptionally talented, he remains unable to cultivate until seventeen, when the Heavenly Mandate Immortal Cultivation System awakens 1 3.

Return to the Ye Clan

After attaining Golden Core, Ye Zhanqiu retrieves his wife and son. He discovers Jinyu’s supreme-grade dual Spirit Roots, improves his physical foundation, and promises to teach him personally. During the journey home, he also places Xu Feng and three Foundation Establishment guards at Jinyu’s disposal 3 4.

Back in Cloudmist, Ye Zhanqiu declares that Jinyu will become the clan’s young master and eventual head. Ye Qingming subsequently chooses him to represent the clan in the approaching Wind Abyss campaign, but first tests his ability to govern a Ruin Realm 5 8.

Qingyu and the Succession Dispute

Ye Zhanqiu sends Jinyu into a beast-filled forest for three months with a sword, storage ring, and map. Despite his initial fear, Jinyu becomes an experienced beast hunter, reaches Qi Cultivation, and demands cultivator opponents after exhausting the available beasts. Passing the trial earns him responsibility for the Qingyu Ruins Realm 9.

There, he uncovers a scheme involving the Zhao Clan, Yu Qinglin, and True Person Qingyu’s supposed death. Recognizing the involvement of powers beyond his own strength, he orders the Zhao Clan’s execution and pursues the Yin-Yang Spirit Wood Heart. After his father removes its lingering imprints and Qingyu’s spirit, Jinyu refines it and obtains the Azure Wood Spirit Body 12 16 17.

When clan members question his standing, he sends Ye Anlan to deliver a challenge. He later secures Ye Jinming and Ye Jinxuan’s public submission, demonstrates his understanding of wind and sharpness, and recruits both into his administration 18 21 22 23.

Wind Abyss Campaign

Jinyu equips his expedition with armor and medicines before entering Wind Abyss. After taking South-Pacifying City, he pursues the Azure Luan inheritance, rescues Qing Lingxi, and binds her with a Fate Seed. He then cooperates with Xie Qingying to overcome the Azure Luan resistance and produce Zhu Nantian Yin Fire at the Heavenly Gang Bifeng Pool 30 31 34 36 40.

The flame becomes the basis of his Foundation Establishment breakthrough. Meanwhile, he deliberately provokes Sima Ruiming through seized gifts, humiliations, and rumors of his closeness to Xie Qingying. His forces later impersonate Ruiming during an attack on Great Yin’s capital, helping force Yin Huan to accept Ye Clan control 41 42 46 47 53 55.

During an encounter with Divine Lord Mingyang, Jinyu refuses to become a puppet and negotiates a Heavenly Dao Soul Pact between equals. Mingyang grants him an imperial inheritance and takes residence within him. After the campaign’s conclusion, Jinyu visits Wei Ming’s grave and reflects on the difficult choices awaiting him as the Ye Clan’s future leader 62 68.

Jiangnan and the Prospect of Kingship

Jinyu establishes himself in Yangzhou, using Zhong Mountain as his base. He hosts Jiangnan’s influential figures, expands the Cloud Palace’s local intelligence work, and rejects Supreme Azure Waves’ attempt to combine patronage with intimidation 71 72.

He recruits Jia Ru and grants him command over the Ye Clan’s Jiangnan agents, deathsworn, assets, grain transport, and spy networks. Their plans combine covert pressure against Huainan with openly establishing a political foundation 77.

As Jiangnan comes under Ye influence, Jinyu outlaws Dao Devouring and orders clans to disclose their Dao Ginseng and incomplete cultivation methods. The Zhu Clan’s concealment leads to the execution of its direct line. He also considers how rogue cultivators and humble families might obtain opportunities to advance 94.

Liu Chen later offers innate thunder Qi and asks to borrow Jingzhou in exchange for Liu support. He argues that kingship over Jiangnan could provide the order Dao needed to complement Jinyu’s Three Calamities and enable a Purple Mansion breakthrough. Jinyu considers the proposal without committing; his subsequent journey takes place amid reports of a worsening northern invasion 96 97.

Appearance

  • Build and features: Tall, handsome, and refined, with a resemblance to Ye Zhanqiu in his youth 6 77.
  • Eyes: Described as deep as an abyss; after refining the wood heart, azure and gray colors flow through them 10 42.
  • Clothing: Wears cloud-brocade robes, plain light-blue clothing, or moon-white brocade. At his Jiangnan banquet, he wears white robes and a jade hairpin 9 22 72 77.
  • Bearing: Usually composed and courteous, with a gentle smile that conceals his calculations 72 77.

Personality

Jinyu is an accomplished actor. He maintains a restrained appearance throughout his hostage years and later deliberately makes himself look bedraggled to exploit his father’s guilt. Both parents recognize his skill at concealing his intentions 2 5.

His governing style combines generosity with coercion. He spends heavily on followers’ equipment, rewards useful service, and prefers personally winning over capable relatives rather than relying solely on inherited authority. At the same time, he treats resources, obligations, and ambition as tools for securing obedience 21 28 30.

He is ruthless toward resistance and sensitive to challenges against his standing. He engineers humiliations, shifts blame onto rivals, and uses overwhelming power to enforce submission. Ye Anlan privately recognizes his tendency to hold grudges, while Zhang Xuan calls his methods vicious and unsubtle 18 47 55.

His ambition does not eliminate reflection. He admits that he would resist if born under Ruin Realm oppression, later considers opportunities for cultivators of humble origins, and comes to distinguish the ease of killing from the difficulty of restraint. In discussions of cultivation, he values freedom over rigid attachment to either accumulation or renunciation 8 69 86 94.

  • The completed forms of Sovereign’s Supreme Reign and Emperor’s Descending Might are engraved in his sea of consciousness; their transmission is documented, but these passages do not establish his independent mastery of them 63.

  • Establishes the Cloud Palace, initially ordering the recruitment of three hundred members under Ye Jinming 23.
  • Proposes Transport Commissioners to collect and allocate Ruin Realm taxes and tribute, targeting concealed production and private trading 23.
  • Uses rewards, public displays, disguises, rumors, and proxy rulers to consolidate authority 22 30 41 53 55.
  • Delegates the Jiangnan covert network to Jia Ru while retaining the clan’s backing as its foundation 77.
