Breaking Out

Chen Sen, of course, knew the situation too, so he kept urging everyone to shoot their arrows as quickly as possible.

At the same time, he had the team members whose trees were tilting move to other trees.

There were few large trees whose branches actually crossed, and they couldn't attack while moving between them, which greatly reduced their rate of attack.

Three minutes passed, and nearly every team member had shot more than a dozen arrows, but that had only added five or six wild boars to the casualties.

Although the team members in the few trees that were about to be dug down had moved to another tree,

after several minutes of continuous shooting, even these people who had practiced martial arts for years felt their arms ache.

They couldn't bring their strength to bear, and their shooting speed had dropped sharply.

The Avatar at the side merely kept the same shooting pace as the members of the Chen Martial Arts School, though its accuracy was higher, and it also pretended to be running out of strength.

As Chen Sen felt his arms aching terribly, he also knew they couldn't go on like this.

Otherwise, they might well be surrounded and killed here. They had to break out.

So he immediately called for the team members to draw their melee weapons and prepare to descend the trees.

As he laid out these plans, he didn't include the Avatar, which was still shooting arrows nearby.

He felt that someone like this, utterly exhausted and without martial arts skills, would already have a very hard time breaking out, so he paid the Avatar no mind.

Seeing how absorbed he was in making arrangements, the Avatar was glad he was leaving it alone. Their descent would draw the fire.

Then it could burst out at top speed, charge through the ring of wild boars, and head straight for the white-haired boar to kill it.

By now, the dozen or so wild boars beneath the trees that had been digging at the roots each had three or four carbon-fiber arrows lodged in their heads and black, bristly bodies.

As the bright red blood flowing from their arrow wounds gradually covered their bodies, some of the wild boars slowly stopped rooting through the soil with their hard tusks and nimble snouts, and began panting for breath.

Rather than continue digging at the roots, they followed those behind them, retreating away from the trees.

But they didn't withdraw. Instead, they surrounded the trees and began to recuperate.

The Avatar clicked its tongue in wonder at how promptly they obeyed their orders.

"I wonder what class that white-haired wild boar took to be able to do this."

Even with more than a dozen wild boars dead or wounded and most of the others injured, they still hadn't fled in fear.

That was rare, and it only strengthened the Avatar's resolve to kill the white-haired mutated wild boar.

When the people from the Chen Martial Arts School saw that the wild boar herd had actually cleared the space below and wasn't attacking them,

they seized the chance and quickly climbed down, gripping their sabers and swords tightly as they watched the resting wild boars warily.

The surrounding wild boars began pulling the arrows from one another's bodies with their mouths. Before long, the bleeding wounds had actually stopped bleeding.

This shocked everyone even more. What kind of terrifying ability was this!

Chen Shen and the others, however, couldn't wait any longer for the wild boars to recover.

They immediately stepped forward and charged toward a weak point, preparing to break out.

There was some thought behind their breakout formation. The strongest, their senior brother Chen Shen, took the lead, while the other male team members positioned themselves on either side of him.

They formed a flying-geese formation, with the weaker female team members in the middle, providing support in all directions.

More than a hundred meters away, the white-haired wild boar saw the people from the Chen Martial Arts School preparing to fight them to the death.

A trace of humanlike contempt flashed in its eyes.

It immediately let out another series of complex cries, issuing orders, and the entire herd began shifting positions.

The uninjured and lightly injured boars pushed forward from the rear, while the more seriously wounded ones at the back began roaring in waves, like the thunder of war drums.

Just like that, Chen Sen took the lead and charged toward the herd.

With an alloy cleaver in hand, he struck upward, hitting a wild boar squarely on the head. Black skin and red flesh split open layer by layer, until the blade stopped against its hard skull, unable to go any deeper.

The tremendous impact immediately left the boar's eyes somewhat unfocused, its brain concussed and its body rigid and motionless.

Chen Sen seized the chance and raised his blade for an upward slash at the boar's neck.

Seeing this, two other wild boars immediately raised their hooves and charged, attacking him from both sides.

But Chen Sen's martial skills were superb. Seeing what was happening, he turned his wrist and changed his move to a horizontal slash.

In an instant, the wild boars were left with gashes across their eyes or mouths.

As pain shot from their wounds, the three boars recoiled backward and to the sides as if by reflex.

Seeing their senior brother fight so valiantly, the other team members stirred and, encouraged, used the martial skills they had practiced for years to hack at the wild boars.

In this way, they actually managed to carve out some room to survive.

"Looks like they're very strong in melee."

Seeing them break out in such an orderly fashion, the Avatar knew that even if they couldn't kill the entire herd, they could still escape.

After all, the wild boars were now mostly injured or crippled.

In the distance, the white-haired wild boar grew very anxious when it saw the humans handling things so smoothly.

It kept adjusting the method of attack, repeatedly ordering the herd to attack in succession.

In the end, it actually organized four or five of the strongest wild boars to serve as "cavalry" and sprint forward side by side.

But there were simply too many wild boars ahead, and the charging "cavalry" had to avoid them, greatly slowing their charge and making it less effective than intended.

Even so, one wild boar still reached the edge of the group and raised its tusks to scoop up the team member at the rear.

Although the team member was somewhat afraid of the charging boar, he still slashed forward briskly, forcing a nearby boar to dodge aside.

That gave the wild boar charging from behind just the opening it needed.

That single opening let it close in, and a tremendous impact slammed into the team member's body. He was sent flying backward, knocking down a female team member providing support behind him.

The wild boar pounced on the two of them, biting at their bodies and thrusting its tusks again and again.

In that short time, both were battered into a bloody mess.

When the other team members saw this, their eyes nearly split with rage. The cleavers in their hands hacked even more frantically as they tried to drive off the attacking boar.

Captain Chen Sen immediately exerted himself, sweeping his cleaver sideways to drive back the wild boar trying to hold him up.

He immediately sprinted to the two injured people and delivered another heavy chop, striking the boar that was still attacking them and leaving it rigid.

He swung downward, severing the boar's artery. Blood gushed out, and the boar's strength drained away with it. It staggered and collapsed.

The other team members seized the chance to shield them in the middle, covering Chen Sen.
