Ch. 21Boarfolk

Sol decided to conquer the Boarfolk at the foot of the mountain and took Xisitana and Kalpu with him. As the three wyrmlings approached the tribe, the aging Boarfolk Grok Big Tusk prayed for a chance to survive.

  • Sol watched the Boarfolk and identified several Berserkers as potential threats.
  • Sol told Xisitana and Kalpu that they would help him conquer the Boarfolk, then asserted that he would claim all the dependents and treasure.
  • Sol summoned Coal, ate some, and shared the rest with Xisitana and Kalpu to charge their bodies.
  • The three wyrmlings flew toward the Boarfolk settlement as the tribe gathered for its evening meal.
  • Grok Big Tusk feared he would die before winter and prayed to the Father of Tusks and Mother of Iron Bristles for mercy.
  • Three orange-red shapes appeared in the darkening sky and sped toward the Boarfolk.

Ch. 22Submission, Part One

Sol, Xisitana, and Kalpu attacked the Boarfolk after the Coal empowered their dragon breath, and Sol demanded that they kneel before him. The Boarfolk fled or surrendered, and Grok offered Sol his loyalty in exchange for mercy.

  • Sol and the other wyrmlings landed among the Boarfolk, scattering the bonfire and frightening the crowd.
  • Sol unleashed a wave of dragon fire that burned several Boarfolk Berserkers and drove the others to stop their charge.
  • Sol killed the Boarfolk who advised the others to cover themselves in mud, then demanded that everyone kneel and accept him as their master.
  • Xisitana and Kalpu attacked the Boarfolk alongside Sol, and their fire overwhelmed the Berserkers and sent the remaining Boarfolk fleeing.
  • Grok cowered in the mud and offered Sol his loyalty in exchange for mercy.

Ch. 23Submission, Part Two

Sol stopped Xisitana and Kalpu from killing the boar-men after they submitted, then appointed an old boar-man to lead the survivors. The next evening, Sol returned and demanded their loyalty, and the boar-men began pledging themselves to him.

  • Sol ordered Xisitana and Kalpu to stop attacking the boar-men, then appointed the first boar-man to submit as their leader and warned him not to flee.
  • Sol returned to his cave, reviewed his Mental Power Essence balance, and spent three points to create Dragonvein Crystals for himself and the two wyrmlings.
  • Xisitana and Kalpu ate their crystals after Sol threatened to let the first to finish take the other's property.
  • After a day of recovery, Sol flew back to the boar-men's settlement and found twenty-seven survivors waiting for him.
  • Sol promised the boar-men strength and food in exchange for their loyalty, and the old boar-man and others began pledging themselves to him.

Ch. 24The Second Biological Template

Sol established control over the Boarfolk by rewarding them with a healing mushroom and killing one that disobeyed him. Later, he obtained and extracted a Toad Biological Template, retaining its ability to convert food into different gases.

  • Sol gave the injured Boarfolk a Blue Mushroom and ordered each to take only one bite.
  • When a Boarfolk ate more than its share, Sol pinned it down and burned it to death, frightening the rest into obeying.
  • Sol selected several strong Boarfolk and ordered them to meet him at the tallest mountain at sunrise.
  • After hunting and returning to his cave, Sol spent ten points of Mental Power Essence to draw a Toad Biological Template with 68% compatibility.
  • Sol extracted the Toad template; most abilities became vitality because of the creatures’ different body structures, but he gained the ability to convert food into various gases.

Ch. 25Winter

Sol spent the winter staying in his cave while Xisitana and Kalpu hunted for him in exchange for Dragonvein Crystals. In spring, he flew out to hunt and began considering how to help the Boarfolk survive, before spotting a moving “hill” in the distance.

  • Sol promised a Dragonvein Crystal to whichever sibling brought him more prey, persuading Xisitana and Kalpu to hunt through the winter.
  • Sol slept through the harsh season while Xisitana and Kalpu brought him food, and he grew to thirteen feet long.
  • Sol noticed that the Boarfolk population had shrunk over winter and considered ways to increase their numbers.
  • Sol flew beyond his usual hunting grounds and spotted a moving “hill” in the distance.

Ch. 26Great-Horned Oxen

Sol used toxic smoke to scatter a herd of Bystin Great-Horned Oxen and killed a calf, unaware it belonged to nearby half-orcs. After returning to his cave, he ate Coal and considered how to feed and expand his Boarfolk, concluding that farming would require good crop seeds.

  • Sol released toxic smoke over the Bystin Great-Horned Oxen, breaking their defensive circle, then killed and ate a calf.
  • Two half-orcs found the remains and recognized the bite and claw marks as those of a young dragon, so they decided to report it to Master.
  • Sol returned to his cave with the calf's hind legs and found his Mental Power Essence balance had risen above twenty points.
  • Sol exchanged some essence for Coal, ate it to strengthen his fire abilities, and thought about finding crop seeds to support more Boarfolk.

Ch. 27Planting

After a disappointing five-pull, Sol drew a bag of Kiko corn seeds and brought them to the Boarfolk, ordering them to prepare land for planting. He planned to fertilize the new cornfield with dragon dung collected from a designated toilet area.

  • Sol spent five Mental Power Essence on a draw and received amber, rotten meat, coral remains, poisonvine, and a rusty refined iron Great Sword.
  • Sol used another point of essence to draw crop seeds and obtained a small bag of Kiko corn.
  • Sol flew to the Boarfolk camp, found that Kroge had survived the winter, and ordered the Boarfolk to dig and clear a patch of ground.
  • The Boarfolk began tilling the soil while Sol planned to use dragon dung as fertilizer for the cornfield.

Ch. 28Three Months

Sol’s corn harvest promised to feed the Boarfolk through winter, but their growing population strained his resources. He spent more Mental Power Essence on a ten-pull and a guaranteed reward, obtained potatoes to plant, and ended the chapter drunk on Rathalos Whisky.

  • Sol taught the Boarfolk to make fishing tools and trigger-activated snares while his corn grew to maturity.
  • Sol harvested the sweet Kiko Corn and estimated that the crop would yield about 2,000 jin of kernels, enough to help the Boarfolk through winter.
  • Sol noted that many female Boarfolk were pregnant and worried that the tribe would struggle to feed its coming young.
  • Sol spent Mental Power Essence on a ten-pull, received Machalite Ore, a Might Seed, Rathalos Whisky, and other items, then swept away the useless junk.
  • Sol used another point of essence on the guaranteed reward and obtained a large sack of potatoes to plant before the young Boarfolk were born.
  • Sol drank the Rathalos Whisky in one go and felt its powerful effects.

Ch. 29Crisis Approaches

A mature blue dragon ordered the half-orcs to capture a young dragon alive after killing one for failing to identify it. Meanwhile, Sol meditated, reunited with Xisitana and Kalpu, and stole and ate Xisitana’s hare, gaining Mental Power Essence as she protested.

  • Korg and Bulaka told the blue dragon they had found signs of young dragons on the Kaqino Grassland, but they did not know their number or kind.
  • The blue dragon killed the younger half-orc and ordered the middle-aged half-orc to bring back a young dragon alive.
  • Sol woke after drinking, contemplated the path to godhood, and practiced meditation to strengthen himself.
  • Xisitana and Kalpu returned from hunting after three months, having grown to about eight feet long.
  • Sol snatched and ate Xisitana’s hare, pinned her when she attacked, and gained Mental Power Essence as she shouted at him.

Ch. 30Half-Orcs

Sol hunted, put the Boarfolk to work planting potatoes, and tempted Xisitana and Kalpu with a Dragonvein Crystal fragment. Meanwhile, Half-Orcs tracking the young dragon followed him toward the Boarfolk settlement.

  • Sol hunted a wild deer after failing to find the giant-horned cattle herd.
  • Three Half-Orcs spotted Sol and split up, with two tracking him and one returning to report to their tribe.
  • Sol flew to the Boarfolk settlement, where Grok woke the tribe and led them before him.
  • Sol ordered the Boarfolk to clear farmland and plant potatoes using plant ash as fertilizer.
  • Xisitana and Kalpu saw Sol's Dragonvein Crystal fragment and argued over whether to hunt for prey in hopes of trading for it.

Ch. 31Night Raid

A Half-Orc force launched a nighttime raid on Sol’s cave, but Sol woke and used explosive smoke and dragon fire to repel them. He destroyed the net they used to trap him and stood ready to burn the surviving attackers.

  • A tall Half-Orc led his prepared force into Sol’s cave with a net and other weapons.
  • Sol sensed the intruders, filled the cave with flammable smoke, and ignited it with dragon breath, blasting the Half-Orcs out of the entrance.
  • The blast knocked Xisitana and Kalpu into the stone wall, while Sol used the roulette wheel to obtain and devour Burning Carbon.
  • Sol charged toward the entrance, but Half-Orcs dropped a tough ox-sinew net over him and pinned him to the ground.
  • Sol unleashed a powerful wave of fire that drove the Half-Orcs away and burned through the net.
  • Sol rose amid the flames and threatened to burn every intruder in his territory.

Ch. 32Slaughter

Sol fought off a group of Half-Orcs who had surrounded him, using his tail, wings, and dragon breath to break their attack. As Xisitana and Kalpu joined the battle, Sol unleashed another torrent of flame, engulfing several Half-Orcs.

  • Sol spotted more than twenty Half-Orcs closing in and charged at one holding a rope, knocking him down and biting through his skull.
  • Sol spread his wings to bat away hooks, but two Half-Orcs stabbed his belly with spears and a tall, berserk Half-Orc forced him back to the ground.
  • Sol struck the spear-wielding Half-Orcs with his tail as Xisitana and Kalpu rushed from the cave and attacked the nearest Half-Orc.
  • Sol drew on the last of his mana and breathed fire at the tall Half-Orc, burning through his shield and driving the surrounding Half-Orcs back.
  • Sol swept his flames across the Half-Orcs, engulfing several and severely burning them.

Ch. 33The Tables Turn

After escaping the half-orcs’ attack, Sol used Dragonvein Crystals to recover and led Xisitana and Kalpu back to hunt their enemies. He began picking off the fleeing half-orcs, leaving the wounded abandoned as the hunt continued.

  • Sol, Xisitana, and Kalpu escaped the half-orcs after Sol’s breath attacks weakened their attackers.
  • Sol replenished his strength with a Dragonvein Crystal, shared another with Xisitana and Kalpu, and vowed to kill the half-orcs that night.
  • Sol and the other wyrmlings ambushed and killed a half-orc near the trees, then hid as the group argued over whether to pursue them or retreat with the wounded.
  • Sol followed the retreating half-orcs noisily, frightening them until their formation broke and they abandoned their wounded.
  • Sol caught and killed the half-orc at the rear as the others ran, beginning his hunt.

Ch. 34Bad News

Sol hunted down the fleeing half-orcs, who revealed that Stormfang Kalundak had sent them to bring him to Blackrock Fort. After killing them, Sol returned to the cave to wait for Xisitana and Kalpu, but a familiar red shape approached that seemed too large to be them.

  • The wounded half-orc leader woke, ordered his people to split up and head for Blackrock Fortress, and named Stormfang Kalundak as the one who wanted to meet Sol.
  • Sol told Xisitana and Kalpu to return to the mountaintop cave before dawn, then attacked the largest group of fleeing half-orcs.
  • The half-orc leader apologized and claimed his people had only come to invite Sol to Blackrock Fort, but Sol rejected the explanation and killed them in a brief battle.
  • Sol flew back to the cave, intending to flee before the blue dragon learned of the failed mission, and waited on a rock for his relatives.
  • A red shape appeared on the horizon, and Sol realized it was too large to be Xisitana or Kalpu but looked familiar.

Ch. 35Mother and Son Reunited

Sol was reunited with his birth mother, Chilier, who had returned to gather her abandoned offspring as followers for the blue dragon faction at Blackrock Fort. After Sol tried to flee, Chilier forced him to stay and captured Xisitana and Kalpu as well.

  • Sol recognized Chilier and tried to flee, but she landed in his path with an orc in her claw.
  • Chilier claimed she had been searching for her offspring and ordered Sol to come with her; Sol agreed while suspecting she intended to use him as a follower or slave.
  • Chilier considered the growing strength of the wilderness factions and her plan to build up her own followers after joining the blue dragon family of Blackrock Fort.
  • Sol asked Chilier to take Xisitana and Kalpu too, and she crushed the captured orc while waiting for them to return.
  • When Xisitana and Kalpu arrived, they tried to run, but Chilier caught them and gathered all three offspring together.

Ch. 36Wyrmling Nurturer

Sol, Xisitana, and Kalpu were brought by Chilier to Blackrock Fort and handed over to the Blue Dragon clan’s wyrmling nurturer, Leilia. Leilia led them to an oasis, where they were surrounded by hostile wyrmlings of several dragon colors.

  • Chilier took Sol and the other two Red Dragon wyrmlings to Storm Fang’s fortress in Blue Dragon territory.
  • Storm Fang ordered Chilier to leave the wyrmlings with Leilia, and Chilier bargained for them to serve her after reaching adolescence.
  • Leilia arrived and led Sol, Xisitana, and Kalpu away from Blackrock Fort without accommodating their pace.
  • Leilia brought the three Red Dragons to a rocky rise beside an oasis and summoned the clan’s wyrmlings.
  • More than twenty wyrmlings gathered around Sol and his companions, jeering at the Red Dragons.

Ch. 37Getting Along

Sol joined Kalundar’s Chromatic Dragon Legion and provoked its wyrmlings to increase his essence gains. He defeated the blue wyrmling Zephyro Theralis by filling the air with smoke and igniting it with Zephyro’s lightning breath.

  • Leilia introduced Sol, Xisitana, and Kalpu as new members of the Chromatic Dragon Legion, then left them with the other wyrmlings.
  • Sol noticed that being surrounded by the wyrmlings boosted his essence gains and taunted them into challenging him.
  • Zephyro Theralis accepted Sol’s challenge and charged him as the other wyrmlings cleared space for the fight.
  • Sol and Zephyro traded bloody blows until Sol released thick smoke that made Zephyro dizzy.
  • Zephyro breathed lightning into the smoke, and Sol shielded himself with his wings as the air exploded, badly injuring Zephyro.

Ch. 38Coming to a Close

Sol defeated Zefiro and intimidated the young dragons at the Dragon Castle, but stopped short of fighting the Blue Dragons who came to Zefiro’s defense. He realized their intense emotions had earned him nearly five points of mental power essence, making his capture and arrival at the castle seem useful after all.

  • Sol shrugged off Zefiro’s attack, knocked him down, and pinned his head to the ground while threatening him with fire breath.
  • The young Blue Dragons advanced to defend Zefiro, and Xisitana and Kalpu spread their wings despite their fear.
  • A larger young Blue Dragon challenged Sol to face them at the next full moon and warned him not to defy Lady Leilia’s rule against young dragons killing one another.
  • Sol released Zefiro and boasted that he would take on the Blue Dragons, while Zefiro returned to his companions in disgrace.
  • After the gathering dispersed, Sol checked his mental power essence and found the young dragons’ emotions had earned him nearly five points.

Ch. 39The Third Biological Template

Sol dug a new lair in the Gobi and drove Xisitana and Kalpu out so they would make their own nearby. After gaining essence from the young dragons and drawing the Scale Bat Biological Template, he gained echolocation and enhanced aerial maneuverability as his wings and ears began to change.

  • Sol and the two wyrmlings dug a large cave dwelling into the Gobi, and Sol claimed it for himself by flinging Xisitana and Kalpu outside.
  • Xisitana and Kalpu argued over who should dig the other’s lair, then settled nearby rather than stray far from Sol.
  • Sol exchanged essence for a Dragonvein Crystal and ate it with Coal, gaining five points of essence.
  • Sol spent ten points of essence on the biological template wheel and drew the Scale Bat Biological Template, which had 76% compatibility.
  • Sol fused with the Scale Bat template and retained echolocation and aerobatic flight as his wings lengthened and outer ears began to grow.

Ch. 40Feeding

Sol’s wings grew after he swallowed a Dragonvein Crystal, and he used his new flying ability to hunt and provoke the other young dragons. When food arrived at the oasis, he claimed a Great-Horned Ox and faced down a group of Blue Dragons, who backed off while threatening him.

  • Sol’s wings grew thicker and larger as he digested the Dragonvein Crystal, and he tested them by flying over the oasis.
  • Sol roared and circled overhead, drawing the young dragons’ attention and gaining Mental Power Essence from their hostility.
  • On the fourth day, Half-Orcs and kobolds brought carts of food to the oasis, and the young dragons rushed to claim it.
  • Sol reached the carts first, claimed a Bystin Great-Horned Ox, and challenged the Blue Dragons who demanded he give it up.
  • Xisitana and Kalpu arrived as the Blue Dragons decided not to fight Sol, though they warned him that he would face trouble later.
