Stopping the Bleeding with White Paper
After practicing her whisk routine, Fairy Li returned to Su Ziyang's side without blushing or skipping a beat.
"Hey? Let me ask you, is this considered a fitness exercise or an attack exercise?"
Su Ziyang asked in a low voice beside Fairy Li.
"I don't know."
Fairy Li tilted her head and said she didn't know.
"You practiced it yourself, didn't you know?"
"That depends on when," said Fairy Li, picking up her whisk again.
As luck would have it, a brick was placed upright on a nearby stool. Before Su Ziyang could react, Fairy Li casually flicked her whisk, and the brick broke in two...
"For example, when I'm angry, I become aggressive. When I'm happy, it's like I'm exercising."
Su Ziyang touched the broken half of the brick, his hand trembling slightly.
"Yang Yang, is it alright if we have a vegetarian meal at your cafeteria for lunch?"
Fairy Li disregarded Su Ziyang's feelings and ran to the side of Daoist Master Xiao Yang, whispering something.
Su Ziyang picked up an unused whisk and tried to imitate Fairy Li's movements, but found that he couldn't muster any strength at all, let alone channel his power to the tip and break the brick.
"Hey, Zijun, you two wait for me."
Su Ziyang quickly followed, slowly trailing behind Fairy Li. Su Ziyang and Fairy Li were in a relationship where the woman was older than the man. Fairy Li looked innocent, but she knew everything. Now that she had shown off this skill, Su Ziyang had completely become a fanboy.
Just after the two returned home from their meal, Su Ziyang received a message from Mr. Mengfei, saying that he was planning to go out for training in early May of next month and had already asked Old Daoist Master Xiao for leave.
"Can Zijun come along?"
Su Ziyang glanced at Fairy Li, who was staring at him with her little fist outstretched, and quickly asked another question.
"Alright, follow along. You keep practicing these next couple of days, and don't overwork yourself at night. Conserve your energy!"
Mr. Mengfei's three sentences veered off-topic, startling Su Ziyang so much that he quickly hung up the phone.
The teacher that Mr. Mengfei found for him was located in a small town in Jiangnan.
Su Ziyang is from the north, and he is still finding it difficult to adapt to the southern climate.
After giving Su Ziyang his last instructions, Daoist Jin has been in seclusion. This time, he was accompanied only by Mr. Mengfei and Master Yang Tianzheng.
"Ziyang, I'm telling you again. Unless someone asks you a question, just observe and don't say anything! Understand?"
Mr. Mengfei had given Su Ziyang these instructions several times along the way, and Su Ziyang quickly nodded again before repeating them to Fairy Li.
When Mr. Mengfei saw Su Ziyang giving instructions to Fairy Li again, he patted Su Ziyang on the shoulder and said, "Alright, alright. She knows more than you. Just mind your own business."
A building halfway up the mountain was the destination of Su Ziyang and his group.
There was only one person in the room, a tall old man who looked to be about eighty years old. He was wearing a white checkered short-sleeved shirt, gray trousers with the cuffs rolled up, and slippers. He was sitting at the table, puffing on his pipe.
"Master Luo." Mr. Mengfei bowed to the old man with clasped hands.
"They're here!" Master Luo didn't move, but just quietly looked at Su Ziyang and the others.
Su Ziyang was worried that he wouldn't be able to communicate in this place, just like when he went to see Yang Jinguang last time. But to his surprise, Master Luo spoke Northeast China dialect.
"As promised!" Mr. Mengfei stood still and said respectfully.
"Ahem, please have a seat. I'll pour you some water. Please make yourself at home!"
Master Luo tapped the ash from his pipe on the table leg, put the pipe away, and got up to pour water for Mr. Mengfei and his group.
"No need for you, we'll do as we please."
Mr. Mengfei was extremely polite, while Su Ziyang and his group followed the rule of not asking or speaking, standing behind Mr. Mengfei without uttering a word.
Mr. Mengfei clearly wasn't a first-timer; he immediately took a teacup and began brewing tea.
"Which one is this?" Master Luo asked after Mr. Mengfei finished pouring the water.
"Ziyang, come here." Mr. Mengfei beckoned to Su Ziyang Su Ziyang, signaling him to come closer.
After Su Ziyang stood still, he felt as if Master Luo's eyes were scraping against him like knives.
"Not bad. That girl in the back has even better features, who is she?"
After glancing at Su Ziyang, Master Luo turned his gaze to Fairy Li.
"That's my apprentice's unmarried wife."
Mr. Mengfei gave a brief introduction, and Master Luo listened, nodded, and said nothing more.
"Shall I pack one for you?"
Seeing that Master Luo was no longer speaking, Mr. Mengfei picked up Master Luo's tobacco pouch and purse and began to fill them with tobacco.
Thank you for your help!
From the conversation and deep affection between Mr. Mengfei and Master Luo, Su Ziyang could tell that Mr. Mengfei respected Master Luo nine-tenths, Master Luo respected Mr. Mengfei seven-tenths.
After packing the cigarettes and lighting them with a match, Master Luo took a puff and then looked at Su Ziyang, suddenly asking, "Do you smoke?"
Su Ziyang shook his head. "No."
"Oh!"
Master Luo nodded, took two more deep drags on his cigarette, and then stood up.
Just then, three people suddenly ran in from outside—or rather, two—carrying one item in a basket.
(The following was originally written in dialect, but for ease of writing and reading, I have switched to Mandarin. Please forgive me.)
"Master Luo, my younger brother fell off the stone statue while gathering herbs and hit his head. Please take a look."
Su Ziyang didn't know what the two were saying while crying and shouting, but everyone could see that the person in the basket had a triangular cut on his temple, and blood was gushing out and quickly flowing to the ground.
Master Luo squinted at it first, then turned around, opened a drawer, and took out a piece of spiral paper used for rolling tobacco.
After tearing off a sheet, Master Luo walked to the person in the basket and applied the snow-white spiral paper to the bleeding area. The bleeding was heavy, and the spiral paper was immediately soaked through.
Immediately, Master Luo stood up, made a sword-finger gesture with his hand, pointed it at the bleeding wound, and shouted, "Stop!"
With that shout, a miraculous scene unfolded. The triangular wound, which had been gushing blood like a faucet, now began to congeal, centered on the piece of ribbed paper.
The bleeding stopped in less than a minute.
Everyone was stunned, even Mr. Mengfei, who always prided himself on his extensive knowledge, was speechless with astonishment.
The other two people who had just carried the man over immediately knelt down before Master Luo and kowtowed repeatedly as soon as they saw the bleeding had stopped.
Master Luo didn't say anything else, letting the two brothers kowtow several times before waving them away to take the man home and let him recover slowly.
"The villagers nearby are risking their lives to collect some valuable and rare medicinal herbs. They're constantly getting injured in falls! It's heartbreaking!"
