Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Apparent Innate Full Soul Power 43 His awakening result was boosted by the internal power of the Mysterious Heaven Skill rather than being entirely innate.
Level 29 11 13 Tested during Shrek admission; possesses two yellow hundred-year Soul Rings.
Soul Elder — initially described as level 30 38 39 Absorbs a highly venomous spider of approximately 1,500 years. Gains Poison Web Restraint, but notices that Blue Silver Grass has become more fragile.
Level 31 Soul Elder 41 Reports this level to Yu Xiaogang following his third-ring breakthrough.
Level 38 Soul Elder 144 Blue Silver Grass has two yellow rings and one purple ring. The Clear Sky Hammer remains ringless; accumulated poison threatens his first Martial Soul’s origin.
Level 40 breakthrough; fourth Soul Ring acquired 157 Under Tianyu’s direction, absorbs thousand-year Blue Silver Grass. His first Martial Soul becomes healthier, but the choice prevents its potential devouring mutation.
Level 49 Soul Ancestor 181 With Flender’s help, acquires approximately 8,000-year and 13,000-year rings for the Clear Sky Hammer, giving it one purple and one black ring.
Soul King 224 Has nine rings across both Martial Souls, including five on the Clear Sky Hammer. Another ten-thousand-year ring is documented; his physical condition improves, though he notices an unusual bodily sensation.
Severe power loss 227 Tianyu breaks the team’s combined attack. Tang San suffers the worst Soul Power backlash, leaving his Clear Sky Hammer effectively unusable and forcing him to rely on Blue Silver Grass.

Background

Tang San is a transmigrator who belonged to the Bashu Tang Sect in his previous life. He secretly learned its Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record and retained its cultivation methods, combat techniques, poison knowledge, and hidden-weapon expertise. Although others initially identified these techniques as his own Self-Created Soul Skills, Tang San knew they were inherited Tang Sect arts 6 21 146.

He had no parents in his previous life and strongly valued his relationship with Tang Hao after rebirth. His childhood nevertheless involved persistent hunger and neglect: Tang Hao drank heavily, while Old Jack’s assistance and Tang San’s retained cultivation knowledge helped him survive 130 144 145.

Before reaching Shrek Academy, Tang San became Yu Xiaogang’s disciple. Yu Xiaogang guided the Soul Ring choices for Blue Silver Grass and sent Tang San and Xiao Wu to Suotuo City 6 14.

Personality

Tang San is cautious about unfamiliar people and protective of Tang Sect knowledge. He initially remains wary of Tianyu, hesitates to distribute hidden weapons, and feels guilty about sharing inherited cultivation methods. Xiao Wu is his strongest exception: he gives her knowledge and equipment that he would otherwise withhold 9 21 24 52.

His attachment to Xiao Wu combines devotion, jealousy, and persistent self-reassurance. He wants to protect her personally, resents other men approaching her, and repeatedly accepts her explanation that Tianyu is only a platonic “male best friend.” Even after joining an alliance against Tianyu, he continues to excuse Xiao Wu’s behavior 83 91 157 183 200.

Tang San takes perceived betrayal and damage to his cultivation personally. Once convinced that Yu Xiaogang used him as an experimental subject, he abandons his earlier reverence and plans retaliation. He similarly resolves to kill the Zhu sisters for using Tang Sect techniques while forgiving Xiao Wu, whom he suspects of leaking them 147 148 154 198.

Repeated defeats by Tianyu undermine his confidence. Praise from Yu Xiaogang, apparent parental support from Tianyu’s disguise, and improvements to the Clear Sky Hammer each temporarily restore his belief that he can surpass his rival 41 146 179 181.

Abilities & Skills

Blue Silver Grass

Tang San’s first Martial Soul specializes in binding and poison. Its toxin-heavy development progressively damages its vitality and toughness 14 39 144.

  • Blue Silver Entanglement: His first Soul Skill produces vines that bind targets and carry a paralyzing toxin. It catches a distracted Dai Mubai but is easily broken by Zhao Wuji 5 14.
  • Poison Web Restraint: His third Soul Skill releases a purple web approximately two and a half meters across, carrying a powerful neurotoxin. One use consumes roughly half his Soul Power; Zhao Wuji tears it apart barehanded 39.
  • Fire vulnerability: Tianyu’s flames repeatedly destroy his grass and webs. During a training battle, Tianyu burns away Poison Web Restraint with a small fraction of the Soul Power Tang San spent producing it 27 48.
  • Accumulated toxicity: By level 38, mere contact can paralyze opponents and make them faint, but the Martial Soul itself is extremely weak 144.
  • Suppressed mutation: His deteriorating grass approaches a life-force-devouring mutation. Tianyu intervenes to prevent the emergence of Devouring Blue Silver Grass, which might escape his control 144 148 157.
  • Partial recovery: Absorbing thousand-year Blue Silver Grass improves its condition, preventing it from remaining a withered purple weed 157.

Clear Sky Hammer

Tang San’s second Martial Soul is substantially stronger than his weakened Blue Silver Grass even before receiving rings. He initially preserves it without rings, then develops it as his main answer to Tianyu 144 179.

  • Close combat: Alternates the hammer with Blue Silver Grass against the Man Faced Demon Spider, severely injuring its abdomen with a desperate strike 28.
  • Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer: Builds power through successive hammer movements; Tianyu destroys the resulting attack with one punch during the tournament 182.
  • Ring-enhanced power: An approximately 8,000-year ring and a 13,000-year ring help him defeat the Divine Wind and Thunder Teams 181.
  • Final limitation: After the tournament’s concluding backlash, the hammer remains broken even if he forces it into use 227.

Mysterious Heaven Skill

An internal cultivation method retained from his previous life 13 43.

  • Its internal power contributes to his apparent Innate Full Soul Power 43.
  • He gives Xiao Wu a reduced version because he fears she might damage her meridians through improper cultivation 24.

Purple Demon Eye

An eye-cultivation technique associated with purple light in his eyes 28 144.

  • Cultivated by absorbing the eastern purple light at dawn 46 148.
  • Helps him detect and react to a Mandala Snake’s ambush 25.
  • Does not protect him from every visual attack: he suffers a temporary eye injury during the Zhao Wuji examination and recovers shortly afterward 15 16.
  • Remains too low in development to overcome Tianyu’s domain interference during the false-parent deception 144.

Tang Sect Combat Arts

  • Mysterious Jade Hand: A hand technique that complicates his bone-age examination; he also uses it to slap away Tai Long’s offered hand 11 83.
  • Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track: An evasive movement technique used to dodge the Man Faced Demon Spider’s corrosive web. Tianyu later becomes able to read the rhythm of its steps 28 41.
  • Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon: A grappling technique inherited from the Tang Sect 6.
  • Poison expertise: His familiarity with poison contributes to his interest in adding toxic attributes to Blue Silver Grass 146 147.

Hidden-Weapon Craftsmanship and Herb Knowledge

Tang San can manufacture Tang Sect hidden weapons and identify Immortal Herbs from knowledge retained across lives 21 52.

  • Produces an illustrated Immortal Herb guide after two days and two nights of work 23.
  • Completes the Godly Zhuge Crossbow and initially intends to reserve it for himself and Xiao Wu 52.
  • Prepares hidden weapons during his confrontation involving Shui Bing’er, then agrees to surrender crossbow blueprints under Tianyu’s pressure 160 161.

Equipment & Items

  • Twenty-Four Bridges Moonlit Moon: A waist-worn storage Soul Tool from which he retrieves the Godly Zhuge Crossbow 52.
  • Godly Zhuge Crossbow: A mechanical Tang Sect hidden weapon. Tang San gives one to Tianyu at Xiao Wu’s insistence; Tianyu later catches its bolts and demands its manufacturing blueprints 52 161.
  • Silent Sleeve Arrow: A concealed arm-mounted weapon that he secretly primes while attempting to explain himself to Tianyu 161.
  • Illustrated Immortal Herb guide: Prepared for Xiao Wu and subsequently delivered to Tianyu 21 23.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Rose Hotel and Shrek Admission

Tang San takes advantage of Dai Mubai’s distraction to bind him and claim victory at the Rose Hotel. When faced with Tianyu’s flames, he avoids escalating the dispute. He and Xiao Wu subsequently travel toward Shrek Academy alongside Tianyu and Zhu Zhuqing 5 8 9.

During the entrance examination, Tang San’s Entanglement fails against Zhao Wuji. After Xiao Wu is injured by the backlash of her Charm skill, he demands a one-on-one fight, only to finish completely drained and unable to move 14 16 17.

Star Dou Great Forest

Tang San pursues Xiao Wu and encounters a full-strength Man Faced Demon Spider. Using both Martial Souls and his movement technique, he exhausts its three webs and wounds it badly. Tianyu and Zhu Zhuqing then finish the creature, allowing Tianyu to obtain its Soul Ring and Eight Spider Soul Bone through a Heaven-Breaking Stone 28 29.

Tang San instead absorbs an approximately 1,500-year venomous spider. Its Poison Web Restraint has limited coverage, high Soul Power consumption, and poor durability. His growing concern over Blue Silver Grass eventually extends to doubts about Yu Xiaogang’s guidance 38 39 43.

Separation from Xiao Wu

Xiao Wu secretly becomes Tianyu’s Contract Beast, while Tang San continues to regard her as his beloved companion. Through her requests, Tianyu obtains Tang San’s herb knowledge, cultivation arts, and hidden weapons 18 21 46 52.

Tang San later follows Yu Xiaogang away from Blue Tyrant Academy to Heaven Dou Royal Academy. Xiao Wu stays behind, and Tang San entrusts her care to Tianyu, believing their relationship is platonic 94.

False Father and Rejection of Yu Xiaogang

Tianyu approaches Tang San in disguise with Ah Yin and uses domain-based influence to interfere with his judgment. Ah Yin identifies the disguised man as Tang San’s real father. Tianyu reinforces the deception by fabricating a Clear Sky Hammer alongside his genuine Blue Silver Emperor and falsely accusing Tang Hao of betraying Ah Yin 144 145.

Tang San accepts the deception and transfers his filial loyalty to the supposed father. Tianyu then demonstrates plant control superior to Tang San’s Soul Skills and attacks Yu Xiaogang’s ring-selection theory. Convinced that he was merely an experimental subject, Tang San develops intense hatred toward his former mentor 146 147.

Tianyu continues periodic instruction while restricting the development of Tang San’s Martial Soul. Tang San interprets this control as parental care and begins planning revenge against Yu Xiaogang 148 154.

Tournament and Anti-Male Best Friend Alliance

After suffering against Shui Bing’er’s ice, Tang San increasingly relies on the Clear Sky Hammer. Its new rings bring victories against other tournament teams, but Tianyu still defeats him with one punch. Seeing Xiao Wu embrace Tianyu afterward deepens his suspicions 159 168 181 182.

Tang San joins Feng Xiaotian, Yu Tianheng, and Huo Wushuang in founding the Anti-Male Best Friend Alliance, pledging to rescue the women they love from Tianyu. He later survives being taken hostage by Ghost Douluo when Sword Douluo intervenes 183 187 188.

By the Spirit City tournament, Tang San is the New Shrek Team’s principal decision-maker. He gathers a stronger lineup around himself and plans to concentrate the team’s power against Tianyu immediately rather than attempt a prolonged battle 209 214.

Final Defeat

Tang San reaches Soul King and places five rings on the Clear Sky Hammer, becoming confident enough to dismiss the weakened Blue Silver Grass. He notices that his body feels strange after the hammer’s fifth ring but interprets it as another sign of strength 224.

In the final confrontation, his teammates channel their Soul Power into him. Tianyu shatters the hammer attack with one punch, causing catastrophic backlash. Tang San receives the worst damage, effectively loses the use of his second Martial Soul, and is left dependent on Blue Silver Grass 226 227.

Relationships

  • Xiao Wu — Childhood companion, adoptive younger sister, and the only woman Tang San regards as his lover. His desire to protect and win her back drives much of his cultivation and rivalry with Tianyu 83 116 157.
  • Tianyu — Rival, exploiter, and disguised false father. Tang San alternately trusts him as Xiao Wu’s friend, resents his closeness to her, and reveres his paternal disguise without recognizing that they are the same person 102 145 157 183.
  • Tang Hao — Biological father whose neglect shapes Tang San’s childhood. Tianyu’s fabricated account turns Tang San’s attachment into hatred and a desire for revenge 130 145 148.
  • Ah Yin — Biological mother and a hundred-thousand-year Soul Beast. Her presence helps authenticate Tianyu’s false-parent scheme, in which she actively participates 144 145.
  • Yu Xiaogang — Teacher whose guidance Tang San initially trusts. Their bond collapses after Tang San becomes convinced that Yu Xiaogang ruined his Martial Soul through experimentation 41 147 154.
  • Dai Mubai — Fellow Shrek member and occasional ally. Their relationship deteriorates as Tang San gains confidence and rejects Dai Mubai’s defense of Yu Xiaogang 35 181.
  • Feng Xiaotian, Yu Tianheng, and Huo Wushuang — Fellow founders of the Anti-Male Best Friend Alliance and partners in the effort to defeat Tianyu 183 209.
  • Zhu Zhuqing and Zhu Zhuyun — Targets of his killing intent after he sees them using Tang Sect techniques, despite his refusal to blame Xiao Wu for apparently leaking those arts 198.
  • Asura God King — Divine backer who intervenes to preserve him but grows dissatisfied with his decisions, particularly his premature development of the Clear Sky Hammer 187 188.

Trivia

  • Tang San’s misfortunes, misplaced trust, and damaged relationships repeatedly generate Fortune Points for Tianyu. Destroying his bond with Yu Xiaogang produces several large rewards 145 147 148.
  • He does not obtain the Eight Spider Soul Bone in this story; Tianyu takes it, and Zhu Zhuqing later displays the Eight Spider Lances during the tournament 29 182.
  • Chapter 180 presents an intended future ending in which Tang San discovers Tianyu’s deception and is killed. The subsequently resumed narrative continues beyond that outline; the latest supplied event instead leaves him alive with a crippled Clear Sky Hammer 180 181 227.
