Background / History
Origins and Education
Tang San’s soul came from another world, a secret he initially believed nobody else knew. In his current life, he knew his father, Tang Hao, as a blacksmith in Holy Soul Village and was unaware of his father’s concealed identity and his mother’s origins 7 8.
He entered Nuoding Junior Soul Master Academy, became Yu Xiaogang’s disciple, and was accompanied by Xiao Wu. He later joined Shrek Academy and became captain of the Shrek Seven Devils 7.
Joining the Hunt for Chen Yuan
Tang San and his companions originally planned to visit the great forest to hunt Martial Souls. After the sky screen announced that killing Chen Yuan could grant godhood, they redirected their journey toward Shanghao Village. Tang San treated the pursuit as training, declared that he would become a god, and insisted that Chen Yuan should die by his hand 2 3.
Public Exposure
Chen Yuan used the sky screen to name Tang San as the future leader responsible for Spirit Hall’s destruction. Tang San initially denied being the person described, while Bibi Dong and Qian Daoliu doubted that an unfamiliar young man could threaten their organization 6.
Chen Yuan then revealed Tang San’s family, twin Martial Souls, education, and position among the Shrek Seven Devils. He identified Tang Hao as a direct-line descendant of the Clear Sky Sect and explained that Spirit Hall had pursued Tang San’s parents for his mother’s hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring. Learning of his mother’s death filled Tang San with hatred toward Spirit Hall 7.
The revelations prompted Bibi Dong to order Tang San and Tang Hao’s deaths and dispatch Douluo to Holy Soul Village. Tang Hao abandoned his concealment to search for his son, recognizing that Tang San was not yet strong enough to survive the pursuit. Tang San realized that Chen Yuan had deliberately made him a target to divert some of Spirit Hall’s attention 7.
Transmigrator Revelation and Escape
Chen Yuan next exposed Tang San’s otherworldly soul. Tang San confirmed the truth to his companions, who pledged not to betray him. Bibi Dong ordered his capture and interrogation and also sent forces to wipe out Shrek Academy 8.
Nearby hunters recognized the group and surrounded them, hoping to seize Tang San and obtain his secrets or sell him to Spirit Hall. The companions escaped on Ma Hongjun’s Evil Fire Phoenix, briefly fought their pursuers, and hid in a forest. They changed their appearances and clothing before continuing toward Chen Yuan, whom Tang San wanted to question about his knowledge of transmigration 8.
Recognizing the Power Gap
While watching the sky screen, Tang San suspected that Chen Yuan was also a transmigrator and correctly anticipated that he possessed unrevealed methods. Nevertheless, successive displays of Susanoo, resurrection, extreme speed, and Tsukuyomi left him increasingly shaken 11 12 13 22 24 26.
Tang San briefly hoped that Spirit Hall headquarters’ defenders could kill Chen Yuan. That hope weakened as Chen Yuan slaughtered Soul Emperors and Soul Saints. Unable to devise a counter to Tsukuyomi, Tang San concluded that either Chen Yuan or Spirit Hall could kill him and resolved to improve his strength. His group prepared to visit an unnamed place their teacher had described as suitable for rapid improvement 25 26 29 30.
Attack on the Clear Sky Sect
When Chen Yuan turned toward the Clear Sky Sect, Tang San refused to return, reasoning that his current strength could not change the outcome 44.
He subsequently watched Tang Hao suffer under Chen Yuan’s explosive dragon-shaped flames. Chen Yuan taunted him with the prospect of killing his father, resurrecting him, and making him hunt his own son; Tang San became so enraged that he spat blood 49.
After Tang Hao was cut apart by scorching lasers, Tang San swore revenge and decided to bring out his own concealed knowledge ahead of schedule by building mechanisms. Tang Hao later became part of Chen Yuan’s undead army 50 52.
Tang Sect Weapon Development
When Chen Yuan threatened Ning Rongrong, Tang San stopped Oscar from attempting a suicidal rescue. He ordered Dai Mubai to knock Oscar unconscious and helped restrain him. Fearing that Xiao Wu might become the next target, Tang San revealed his plan to forge a Tang Sect weapon capable of killing Douluo-level opponents 52.
After Ning Rongrong fell into Chen Yuan’s hands, the group began researching Tang Sect killing weapons day and night. Tang San claimed that such a weapon could kill even gods, but no completed weapon or successful test is shown in these passages. He continued intensifying his research while watching Chen Yuan acquire still greater power 54 56 58.
Personality
Tang San initially displays strong confidence in his future, declaring that he will become a god and regarding Chen Yuan’s pursuit as training. His confidence is challenged by the exposure of his secrets and the overwhelming difference between his abilities and Chen Yuan’s 2 7 8 22 24.
He remains observant even when watching an enemy. He recognizes effective battlefield leadership, anticipates hidden techniques, and helps identify the likely mental nature of Tsukuyomi. However, his inability to counter Chen Yuan’s methods produces fear, frustration, and an urgent desire for greater strength 11 12 16 26 30.
His attachment to Xiao Wu and his father strongly influences his reactions. Chen Yuan’s advances toward Xiao Wu provoke immediate anger, while Tang Hao’s death turns his hostility into a personal vendetta. Despite that anger, Tang San can act pragmatically: he refuses to enter a hopeless battle at the Clear Sky Sect and forcibly prevents Oscar from attempting one 15 44 49 50 52.
Abilities & Skills
Twin Martial Souls
Tang San possesses Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer, both publicly exposed by Chen Yuan 7.
- Blue Silver Grass: Inherited from his mother, the Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor 7.
- Clear Sky Hammer: Connects him to Tang Hao and the Clear Sky Sect’s lineage 7.
- Demonstrated restraint: Helps control Oscar’s body while Dai Mubai subdues him; the passage does not identify the technique used 52.
Tang Sect Mechanisms and Killing Weapons
Tang San retains knowledge that allows him to pursue the construction of Tang Sect killing weapons. He decides to use these concealed methods after Tang Hao’s death 50 52.
- Plans a weapon specifically intended to kill Douluo-level experts 52 56.
- Organizes his companions into sustained research and development 54.
- Claims that the resulting weapon could kill gods; this remains an unproven claim in the documented events 54.
Tactical Observation
Tang San analyzes Chen Yuan’s battles through the sky screen 11 12 16.
- Recognizes that coordinated command makes a large force more dangerous than an unorganized crowd 11.
- Predicts that Chen Yuan has additional trump cards and that his surviving captives serve another purpose 11 12.
- Agrees that Tsukuyomi likely attacks the mind because its victim dies without physical contact 16.
- Acknowledges that he cannot match Chen Yuan’s speed or counter Tsukuyomi with his current methods 22 26.
