Lei Jue was formerly the leading Inner Sect disciple of the Thunder Cloud Sect and was designated its Holy Son. Two years before his return to the Eastern Wasteland, he was selected by the Heavenly Phoenix Sect in Huangzhou, where he became a key disciple under an Elder. His admission was a major point of pride for the Thunder Cloud Sect, whose peers regarded Heavenly Phoenix Sect selection as an exceptional honor 138.

Thunder Plains Ancient City takeover

Upon returning from the Heavenly Phoenix Sect, Lei Jue is positioned as the Thunder Cloud Sect’s answer to Lin Changkong. When Qing Tian Sect accuses the Heavenly Fire Sect of sabotaging a formation, he accepts the accusation without investigation, orders the Heavenly Fire Sect disciples to kneel, and demands Lin Changkong’s execution 144.

Lin Changkong’s execution of Liu Dajiang directly challenges Lei Jue’s authority. Lei Jue responds by crushing Lin’s Wind Thunder Saber Qi with his bare hands and unleashing his ninth-level Core Formation Realm pressure 144.

First battle with Lin Changkong

Lei Jue initially clashes evenly with Lin Changkong using the Lei Ling Spear and Thunder Collapse against the Heavenly Fire Divine Elephant Art. He is shocked when Lin survives Thunder Collapse and realizes Lin deliberately tested the technique’s limits before turning the battle into close combat 146 147.

After being punched to the ground, Lei Jue uses Heavenly Phoenix Fury and declares himself invincible below the Ascending Dragon Realm. However, the immense cost of the Ninth-rank martial art prevents him from decisively defeating Lin Changkong 148 149.

Deep-pit ruins conflict

Lei Jue competes with Lin Changkong for refining methods inside the newly emerged ruins. The two each obtain half of the Crimson Sun Refining Method, turning their rivalry into another contest for a ninth-rank inheritance 150.

To gain an advantage, Lei Jue announces Lin’s possession of a ninth-rank refining secret technique to the other sect disciples, hoping their greed will turn them against Lin. He later orders Baili Yunshan and Huangfu Shanhe to stall Lin while he prepares Heavenly Phoenix Fury 151.

Believing Lin to be trapped beneath the deep pit, Lei Jue orders his followers to watch the barrier and plans to eliminate the Heavenly Fire Sect disciples in District 36 afterward 154.

Defeat and rescue

Lin Changkong reappears after advancing to the ninth level of the Core Formation Realm and immediately kills Baili Yunshan and Huangfu Shanhe. Lei Jue’s Heavenly Phoenix Fury is then shattered by Lin’s Fire God Phantom after a sustained barrage of punches 160 161.

Lei Jue deploys the Lightning Shield and consumes an Ascending Dragon Pill to regain the initiative, but Lin outlasts the temporary boost. Lei Jue’s spiritual energy collapses, the shield is taken, and Jiang Qingyun intervenes before Lin can kill him 161 162 164.

Continued enmity

Lei Jue later joins Jiang Qingyun against Lin inside Thunder Plains Ancient City, but neither can suppress him. After Jiang Qingyun is expelled by the city’s sealing restriction, Lei Jue retreats behind a barrier with Lei Qianxue and Luo Shuihan 167.

He remains hostile toward Lin Changkong afterward, arriving with Jiang Qingyun and Jiang Tianyi to witness the supposed destruction of the Heavenly Fire Sect. Ji Qingyun humiliates him with a slap when he attempts to intervene 214 217.
