Douluo: My Custom Achievement System
The achievement reward that appeared before Jiang Yi made his eyes go wide.
The reward did not look complicated, nor did it seem particularly generous.
Yet it held tremendous potential.
On the Douluo Continent, Soul Masters had a limit to the Soul Rings they could fuse at each stage.
Only a small number of people who had improved their physical condition through various fortuitous encounters could fuse Soul Rings beyond that age limit.
The vast majority could not exceed the limit. They even found it difficult to approach it, and their Soul Rings were often far below it.
The difference between a Soul Ring below the limit and one beyond it was enormous, and the help they offered a Soul Master was as different as heaven and earth.
This achievement's greatest benefit was that it could be used in this regard.
He could fuse a Soul Ring below the limit, then use the achievement to cross that limit with ease, making the Soul Ring stronger and gaining greater benefits.
However, an increase of only ten years would actually be of very limited use.
Ten-Year Soul Beast Collector. Then could there also be a Hundred-Year Soul Beast Collector? Even a Thousand-Year, Ten-Thousand-Year, or perhaps a Hundred-Thousand-Year one?
If there really are, their rewards will surely increase too. Then...
The more Jiang Yi thought about it, the brighter his eyes became. If there really was a Hundred-Year Soul Beast Collector achievement, there would be a great deal of room to work with.
Soon, a stunning idea took shape in his mind.
An unprecedented thousand-year First Soul Ring.
It was not a wild fantasy. He had been strengthened by so many achievement rewards, and on top of that, he had tempered his body from the inside out with Soul Power Body Tempering.
His physical condition had already reached an immensely powerful level.
It far surpassed the physical condition expected at his level.
Even a Hundred-Year Soul Beast like the Mysterious Water Buffalo, with its powerful body and formidable defenses,
could scarcely withstand his Soul Power-coated fists.
And he had yet to finish tempering his internal organs. Once he succeeded, his physical condition would surely improve greatly once more.
Add to that Ten-Year Soul Beast Collector and the Hundred-Year Soul Beast Collector that might appear,
and fusing a thousand-year First Soul Ring might not be impossible.
Over the past few days, I've already hunted seven Hundred-Year Soul Beasts. I only need to kill three more to find out whether there's a Hundred-Year Soul Beast Collector achievement.
If there really is, I have to try, no matter what. An unprecedented ambition shone in Jiang Yi's eyes.
Standing where he was, Jiang Yi calmed his excitement before setting off to find and hunt Hundred-Year Soul Beasts.
If he hunted Soul Beasts while excited, it would be easy to make a mistake.
He settled his mind and searched for Soul Beasts in the Mysterious Water Forest. About an hour later, his search bore fruit.
He found a Hundred-Year War Tiger. True to its name, the War Tiger was a Soul Beast exceptionally skilled in combat.
The one before Jiang Yi was already over three hundred and fifty years old. Its strength was terrifying, and it would not be easy to deal with.
But after fighting Hundred-Year Soul Beasts many times, Jiang Yi had gained a wealth of experience and naturally felt no fear.
With his current strength and his Grass Trip, he stood a very good chance of defeating this three-hundred-and-fifty-year-old War Tiger.
"Roar!" The War Tiger roared at Jiang Yi.
Its eyes, wide as bronze bells, were filled with savage bloodlust.
Its hind legs kicked hard against the ground, launching its lithe body into the air. In an instant, it crossed dozens of meters.
It reached the space above Jiang Yi and pounced at him.
It was incredibly fast, but Jiang Yi was not caught off guard, because all the Blue Silver Grass around him served as his eyes and ears.
Fighting here, he could see through the War Tiger's every move the moment it made one.
At the critical moment, he drove his feet against the ground, blasting Blue Silver Grass in every direction.
Jiang Yi flashed to the left, dodging the War Tiger's pounce.
Though its pounce had missed, the War Tiger was not angry. Instead, a trace of cunning flashed through its enormous eyes.
Its long tail went from supple to taut in an instant, then whipped toward Jiang Yi.
The sound of it cutting through the air rang out. Jiang Yi's expression immediately sharpened as he sensed a deadly threat.
If the tiger's tail struck him, he would definitely be gravely injured.
Without the slightest hesitation, Jiang Yi used the most useful skill he currently possessed.
A blade of Blue Silver Grass silently wrapped around the War Tiger's right leg, then gave a sharp tug.
Feeling such a feeble pull, the War Tiger showed a flash of humanlike disdain.
Did he think such a little force could interfere with its attack?
But the next second, it panicked.
Its four limbs, which had been planted firmly on the ground, began to shake like long-neglected roof beams on the verge of collapse.
Its massive body crashed to the ground, flattening a wide patch of Blue Silver Grass.
Grass Trip, a godly skill for low-level Soul Masters, once again displayed its tremendous effectiveness.
As the War Tiger lay on the ground, Jiang Yi immediately controlled the Blue Silver Grass beneath it, sending it wrapping furiously around the beast.
At the same time, he burst forward at top speed and straddled the War Tiger's waist.
His fists rained down on its head like Wu Song beating the tiger, dealing it tremendous damage.
"Roar!" The War Tiger let out a furious roar of pain.
It was more ferocious than the Mysterious Water Buffalo, and more tenacious as well.
It roared and struggled, and for a moment, cracking sounds rang out one after another.
The Blue Silver Grass wrapped around its limbs and body snapped strand by strand.
"Hmph!" Seeing that the War Tiger still wanted to break free, Jiang Yi snorted coldly.
His Soul Power-coated fists became a blur, landing even faster on the War Tiger's head, every blow striking the same point.
"Crack!" At last, the sound of breaking bone rang out.
The War Tiger's struggling body suddenly went rigid.
Brain matter mixed with blood poured from the wound, and its life rapidly ebbed away.
The War Tiger stopped struggling, and Jiang Yi rolled over onto the ground, gasping for breath.
Even a Soul Master with a Soul Ring might not be able to deal with a three-hundred-and-fifty-year-old War Tiger.
For him, a Soul Master who had yet to fuse a Soul Ring, killing it had indeed been something of a stretch.
Still, I finally managed to kill it, and I wasn't even hurt.
With the seven I killed before and this one, I'm almost there.
Thinking of the Hundred-Year Soul Beast Collector achievement that might appear, Jiang Yi's eyes filled with anticipation.
After resting for a while, he had recovered about half his strength.
Jiang Yi dealt with the War Tiger in front of him, then headed straight back to camp.
After such a fierce battle, he was no longer in a condition to search for more Soul Beasts.
He planned to press on in one go the next day and hunt two Hundred-Year Soul Beasts to see whether he could trigger the achievement.
Chapter 33: The Willing Take the Bait (Please Keep Reading!)
At the first hint of dawn, Jiang Yi stepped out of the wooden cabin and hurried into the Mysterious Water Forest.
After all these days, he was now only two Hundred-Year Soul Beasts short, and he intended to finish quickly.
He would find two Soul Beasts that had only just reached a hundred years of cultivation and kill them as quickly as possible.
Li Lingyu came out of the cabin afterward and looked at his disciple in some puzzlement.
Why did this kid suddenly go hunting Soul Beasts so early? Doesn't he usually wait until after he's absorbed Heaven and Earth Origin Energy?
He was a little worried, but then he thought of the three-hundred-and-fifty-year-old War Tiger's corpse he had seen yesterday.
He felt he was worrying too much.
Although the Mysterious Water Forest was the largest forest in the Dou Ling Empire, it could not compare to the world-famous Star Dou Great Forest.
Even the Soul Beasts with the highest cultivation in the forest's outer reaches were no more than four hundred years old.
Since Jiang Yi could deal with a three-hundred-and-fifty-year-old Soul Beast, other Soul Beasts would be a small matter, and Li Lingyu did not need to worry too much.
In the outer reaches of the Mysterious Water Forest, Jiang Yi advanced carefully to avoid disturbing the Soul Beasts around him.
He had set out so early precisely because he wanted to avoid the Soul Beasts roaming about after the sun came up.
That way, he could hunt down two Hundred-Year Soul Beasts more quickly.
Clearly, his thinking in this regard had made a great difference.
He had only just entered the Mysterious Water Forest when he encountered a suitable Hundred-Year Soul Beast.
It had a streamlined body covered in black scales, with a touch of purple around its tail.
Sharp barbs grew from every scale, and its pointed fangs gleamed coldly in its long, slender snout.
Black-Armored Crocodile. Fortunately, it only has a hundred years of cultivation. Otherwise, it would be as difficult to deal with as yesterday's War Tiger.
From the scales on the Black-Armored Crocodile's body, Jiang Yi had already determined its exact age.
When a Black-Armored Crocodile was first born, its entire body was black. As it grew older, some of its scales gradually turned purple.
The Black-Armored Crocodile before him had only a few purple scales around its tail, showing that it had merely around a hundred years of cultivation.
At that moment, the Black-Armored Crocodile lay motionless in a pool with its eyes closed. It was clearly still dormant.
In that state, its awareness of its surroundings was greatly diminished, making it an excellent time for Jiang Yi to strike.
Without the slightest hesitation, a cold gleam flashed in his hand. At some point, a pure white dagger had appeared in it.
He had borrowed the dagger from Li Lingyu the previous night.
It was a Level 3 Soul Tool, sharp enough to slice through iron like mud. When infused with Soul Power, it could also release a blade of light.
At present, he certainly could not use his own Soul Power to release that blade of light.
So he was only using the dagger as an ordinary weapon.
Even so, with its ability to slice through iron like mud, it was quite formidable as an ordinary weapon.
Against a Soul Beast like the Black-Armored Crocodile, with hard scales covering its body, it was relatively difficult to inflict effective damage through physical strength alone.
So he had to rely on a tool to maximize the benefit of his sneak attack.
Coating his feet in Soul Power, Jiang Yi began to creep forward slowly, careful not to disturb the sleeping Black-Armored Crocodile and make things troublesome.
His eyes remained fixed on it, and he made not the slightest sound of breathing as the distance between them steadily closed.
Soon, he was within striking distance.
Without any hesitation, cold gleams flashed in his eyes and hand at the same time.
Still as a maiden, swift as a fleeing hare.
The pure white dagger in his hand streaked like a meteor, driving with tremendous force toward the Black-Armored Crocodile's head.
"Pfft!"
The black armor, normally as impregnable as steel, was like a block of tofu before the dagger and was pierced with ease.
The sleeping Black-Armored Crocodile's eyes flew open, but it was already too late.
"Pfft!" Jiang Yi yanked the dagger out, and blood spurted forth.
The Black-Armored Crocodile lost its life in its sleep.
