Knowledge? Knowledge!

Breeder was an extremely broad concept. Unlike trainers, who "bred" Pokémon by constantly improving their strength through training and battle, breeders continually explored fundamentals and truths, pursuing the unknown through theory and practice.

The establishment of the Breeder Association also gave these people a legitimate profession and work of their own.

In some respects, their influence even surpassed that of the Pokémon League!

But although the Breeder Association also developed rapidly, the immense knowledge, logic, and theoretical ability required to become a truly qualified breeder held many people back. The existence of Pokémon with all sorts of different personalities was another obstacle to increasing their numbers. Most importantly, the means of exchanging information at the time presented an insurmountable gulf that hindered the formation of the profession.

By comparison, with the Pokémon League's support, protections for ordinary people continued to improve. Meanwhile, as technology-humanity's second greatest aid after Pokémon-was developed, the Pokémon League began heading in a direction entirely different from the Breeder Association: one side studied technology, while the other studied knowledge of Pokémon.

In the end, however, after the Pokémon League combined technology with breeders' knowledge to create Poké Balls, the brand-new profession of trainer shone with renewed brilliance. It spread at extraordinary speed, sweeping across the world like a wildfire.

With the birth of Poké Balls, the Pokémon League prepared to strengthen its own power and rapidly produce a group of trainers. Even those with no prior experience could rely on a few Pokémon to gain extensive experience through constant travel, then catch more Pokémon and become the League's most valuable helpers in opening up new places. Through this method, the Pokémon League ultimately became better known and was also recognized as the official organization for trainers!

Even so, breeders remained a formidable force that could not be ignored. The Joy family, for example, was among the Breeder Association's top decision-makers, and their influence among trainers was considerable.

By the present day, more than two hundred years later, both trainers and breeders had settled onto the right track, and their trajectories were nearly set.

The name Sedai, the progenitor of breeders, had also gradually become a legend.

"Whew..." Having read through Mr. Sedai's life in one sitting, Terrance marveled. How much perseverance did it take for someone to endure decades in the wild, all to explore knowledge of Pokémon?

"Amazing." Even Terrance, a transmigrator, could not help admiring him. This man had brought about the rapid development of the breeder profession, and its birth had in turn contributed enormously to the progress of society.

"Is there more at the back...?" Turning to the final page, Terrance saw that a few quotations had also been recorded at the end.

The words Mr. Sedai said most often in his later years were: "Whether a trainer or a breeder, one should use the knowledge one has acquired to accomplish the goals one envisions, rather than rely on fantasies-"

When Terrance saw those words, memories of the past suddenly surfaced in his mind. Whether on Earth or in this world, he, an ordinary person, had changed his fate through laborious, tedious knowledge.

What he had learned in this world had given him his greatest opportunities. Whether it was Master Katsumune's regard, the tangible benefits he had gained along the way, or the mainstream of this world, all were closely connected to it.

Putting down the book titled Sedai, Terrance found his body and mind filled with an indescribable emotion. He had thought he understood the breeder profession deeply enough, but now he realized that his training was still far from sufficient.

"A breeder..." Smiling faintly, Terrance shook his head. He would soon be heading to Coronet Academy, and he did not know when he would return to take the intermediate breeder assessment.

It was time to go.

Having obtained what he wanted, Terrance did not plan to stay at the Breeding House any longer. On his way downstairs, he noticed that Brock was still eagerly reading. Without disturbing him, Terrance left on his own.

Meeting Brock was only a minor episode. As long as Terrance intended to continue down the path of a breeder, it was only a matter of time before he met the protagonists or major figures from the original story.

On his way back to the hotel, Terrance kept thinking. Trainers varied in strength, and what determined that strength seemed to be the power of the Pokémon they had, but that did not seem to be the whole story.

Besides the Pokémon's strength, the many factors in a battle all depended on the trainer himself.

Even a Pokémon's strength was inseparable from its trainer's training and nurturing. And if he wanted to become a powerful trainer, setting aside elusive opportunities and luck, Terrance thought of one word.

Accumulation.

A trainer's growth was a process of accumulation. Both a Pokémon's strength and a trainer's experience required a long period of honing.

But if he wanted to find a shortcut, Terrance already had an idea of his own.

Knowledge!

With enough knowledge, he could cross gulf after gulf and overcome thorns that others could not reach or even make sense of, growing rapidly along a perfect path.

The knowledge Terrance had in mind was not mere theory or empty talk, but a highly complex system. He could not clearly explain exactly what it was like.

In his own analogy, it meant making use of external things!

This idea had also been inspired by Mr. Sedai.

He compared knowledge to an external thing, yet this external thing could act directly on Pokémon and trainers themselves.

In Terrance's fragmentary memories, Ash had met a trainer named A.J. in the original story. The training devices A.J. made could help his Pokémon adapt to all sorts of battle environments. Setting aside certain subjective factors, A.J. was using external things to strengthen his Pokémon.

The process was straightforward. To put it plainly, resources, move discs, nutritional supplements, training devices, and so on were all external things.

Those were the things Terrance wanted to study, but he did not intend to stop there. They were all the crystallization of breeders' wisdom from generations past, and he had an advantage no one else in this world could ever match: ideas, ideas from another world.

Unbound by the common sense of this world, he had all kinds of strange and unconventional ideas-in other words, flights of imagination.

If he could make full use of those things to strengthen his Pokémon, Terrance had reason to believe that this knowledge could also put him on a shortcut.

The Joy family reached the top through medicine. Master Aien has spent many years studying Pokémon's innate gifts. He's a typical breeder who believes in innate talent, and he's good at discovering gifted Pokémon. Master Ayaro, meanwhile, devotes himself to studying how to make it easier for different Pokémon to learn more moves, thereby strengthening their foundations and tactical value.

Master Katsumune explores the roots of things, drawing out Pokémon's inner potential from the perspective of genetics. If one day he really could get Pokémon to bring out genes hidden within them from hundreds of years ago or even longer, it would undoubtedly cause a tremendous stir.

Terrance had a vague impression, but he did not dare be certain. He dimly remembered an unfamiliar term buried deep in his memories.

Mega Evolution!

It was a fragment of his memories of Earth, most of which he had now forgotten.

What about me, then? External things... It sounds good, but the knowledge involved is far broader than these seniors' research into individual fields. Without a sufficiently rigorous direction...

The burden was heavy, and the road was long...
