The Unkillable Liu Lu

Not a single one of those once-ferocious extraordinary creatures was still alive...

At the very center of the flower's base, Liu Lu lay in a huge crater, his clothes in tatters. He was clearly unconscious.

"Did Liu Lu blow himself up?"

As Jiang He wondered, his gaze suddenly fell on the stamen's stalk, which had broken apart segment by segment.

Jiang He stepped over to the stamen's stalk, his jaw nearly dropping!

When he thought about how he had climbed up and down while holding it earlier, his heart couldn't help but tremble.

Fortunately, he had been too weak for Liu Lu to consider him worth using that move on. Otherwise, a week from now would probably have been the seventh day after his death...

"You bastard! You blew up four segments at once. What a waste!"

After calming himself, Jiang He reached out and put away the only intact segment, then walked over to the unconscious Liu Lu.

Smack! Smack!

He slapped the guy twice across the face!

Children of Dragon Country learned thrift from a young age, but this idiot must have fed those lessons to a dog!

Still apparently unsatisfied, Jiang He took off his shoe.

Smack! Smack! Smack!

Another rapid flurry of slaps rang out.

Ten minutes later, Jiang He put his shoe back on, panting.

"Playtime's over. It's time for you to be on your way in peace! I'll have Wang Qian burn some paper money for you!"

A trace of hatred showed in his eyes as he picked up the Bloodsucking Dagger.

He swung it straight at Liu Lu's neck.

Thud!

The round head rolled to one side.

But Jiang He waited and waited, and still received no system notification...

"Huh? Did the system freeze?"

He was utterly puzzled, unsure what was happening.

He looked down and examined Liu Lu's corpse, but found nothing unusual.

Jiang He couldn't help asking the system.

The reply he received was...

The Corpse-Devouring Devil Arum was not dead!!!

Following the prompt in front of him, Jiang He finally saw it.

A small arum had actually grown out of the flesh at Liu Lu's severed neck.

On closer inspection, it was shaped just like a head...

Because the guy happened to have fallen to the ground, Jiang He had assumed it was growing from the base of the arum flower and hadn't paid it any attention.

Now, though, the sight looked incredibly bizarre!

"Sure enough, only flames can counter this guy!"

Jiang He murmured, and a red light appeared in his palm. After resting for so long, he had recovered some of his superpower energy.

Boom!

Fierce tongues of flame gushed out, but the moment they touched Liu Lu's skin, they all slid right off.

Like drops of water falling onto a lotus leaf, they couldn't set the guy alight at all...

Seeing this, Jiang He refused to give up. He gouged several holes in the monster, then used Fire Control to fill them with flames.

But it still had no effect!

"Could my flames be too low-level?"

Time passed, second by second.

By the time he had exhausted his superpower energy again, Jiang He still hadn't found a way to kill Liu Lu...

He clawed wildly at his hair.

Having his enemy right in front of him, yet being unable to kill him no matter what he did, was enough to drive a person mad!

Staring at the "dumpling filling" beneath him as it rapidly reassembled, Jiang He struggled to regain his composure!

Since he couldn't kill the guy, he could only give up for now.

He got up and walked toward the severed limbs of the extraordinary creatures.

He wandered around for nearly an hour, but the system's automatic pickup didn't react at all.

Curious, Jiang He had no choice but to ask the system again.

[The explosion was too powerful. All dropped items have been completely blasted to pieces and cannot be restored. The system has automatically abandoned pickup.]

"Fuck! What a wasteful bastard!"

When Jiang He saw the system's message, he jumped up and cursed.

Great. He had come all the way up here, only to find that not only couldn't he kill Liu Lu, but even the dropped extraordinary items were gone...

"At least I picked up a segment of the stamen's stalk. I guess that'll do!"

After fuming for a long while, Jiang He could only comfort himself with that thought.

He had just stepped forward to leave this miserable place when a voice suddenly came from behind him.

"You're a smart man!"

A voice suddenly rang out in the silent space. Even someone as unflappable as Jiang He was startled.

He spun around and saw a huge flower-shaped shadow above Liu Lu's dismembered corpse.

It was the Corpse-Devouring Devil Arum!

Jiang He was too stunned to speak.

Hadn't this guy fused with Liu Lu?

How could it still have an "out-of-body experience"?

As if it could see his confusion, the Corpse-Devouring Devil Arum spoke again:

"That's my secret. I can't tell you for now. You only need to know that I've come to ask for help. Once it's done, the grudge between us will be wiped clean, and I'll also help you suppress this guy's hatred!"

As it spoke, it pointed a tentacle at the dismembered corpse on the ground. It was clearly referring to Liu Lu.

"You're a level 5 Demon Seed. Why would you need help from a weak human like me?"

Naturally, Jiang He wouldn't easily believe its nonsense. Extraordinary creatures looked down on humans from the bottom of their hearts, so how could one genuinely ask him for help?

"You disappeared for so long just now. I expect you've already eaten all the fruit, haven't you?"

The Corpse-Devouring Devil Arum swayed its petals, but the voice that came from it was Liu Lu's.

When the person before it didn't reply for a long while, it continued speaking on its own.

"You superpowered humans are built differently from us. Even if you eat the fruit, you can't digest its energy!"

Jiang He was noncommittal. He already knew that.

"The energy you can't absorb won't disappear. Instead, it will escape through your pores into the air."

The Devil Arum continued, pointing its tentacles repeatedly at Jiang He's body and appearing extremely eager.

"So? What do I get out of helping you?"

Jiang He already knew the guy's plan. Its so-called request for help was nothing more than an excuse to stay by his side and absorb the energy that escaped from him!

After all, once that energy was released into the air, it would quickly dissipate.

But he was extremely wary. Without any concrete guarantee, just a verbal promise,

he certainly wouldn't keep a "hungry wolf" at his side!

The Devil Arum naturally knew what Jiang He wanted. Before he could say anything else, it took something out.
