History

Founding

Lin Xiao received his system on his twelfth birthday and sought a place that belonged entirely to him as a sect headquarters. Lin Dayou and Lin Daman built a thatched shelter halfway up North Mountain, while Lin Yun added bamboo blinds. Once the shelter was finished, Lin Xiao activated the system and permanently registered the name Lingxian Sect 1 3.

Jiang Youfu became its first recruited member. After Lin Yun joined, the sect consisted of one sect master and two elders. Lin Xiao then publicly recruited at Xiushui Village’s threshing ground, where Sun Yigao presented himself as an applicant 5 15 16.

The sect initially lacked both resources and basic knowledge of the cultivation world. Lin Xiao synthesized a main hall but chose to preserve the original shelter because his father had built it and because it marked the sect’s beginning 38 40 64.

Emergence in Pusi Kingdom

Lin Xiao sought trade and information channels in the Immortal Cultivation Realm before the neighboring great sects discovered Lingxian. He believed that survival required strength across the organization, rather than relying solely on his own cultivation 150.

The sect’s defeat of Wei Hai established its strength in the eyes of the Li imperial family. An imperial dispatch subsequently recognized it as a legitimate immortal sect. Lingxian also rescued abducted mountain villagers and sealed the life-taking threat connected to Huanyou Nation 244 249 318.

Following the Shangyang Sect’s decline, the Clear River Sect and Cloud and Mist Sect regarded Lingxian as its effective replacement among Pusi Kingdom’s major powers. Neither wished to provoke a sect that had killed Wei Hai without suffering losses 320.

Expansion Beyond the Founding Group

At its second assembly, Lingxian established its initial departmental management system and began formalizing master-disciple relationships. Its public recruitment later attracted widespread attention throughout Hufang Province 376 409.

By the time Liang Zhonghuai toured its grounds, the sect was only a little over three years old. Its facilities were impressive enough that he mistakenly assumed it was an ancient organization that had concealed its wealth 435.

The development of Xiushui City made Lingxian’s strength visible to visiting sects and imperial families. Its subsequent trade network and cooperative approach brought widespread recognition across the Mortal Realm 532 559 596.

Later, the sect arranged practical training in Yuanling City and recruitment through a local base. The Yuan Household distributed recruitment flyers, with an information gathering planned at Ten-Li Pavilion 610 664 665.

Principles and Recruitment

Access to Cultivation

• Spirit Roots are not required. Lin Xiao confirms that they are of little use to the sect’s cultivation path; character, rather than Spirit Root aptitude, determines eligibility 253.
• Cultivation is a personal choice. Lin Xiao wants people to have the opportunity to cultivate without their prospects being decided at birth 208.
• Community prosperity is a founding goal. He views cultivation as a means to create, improve people’s surroundings, and make life in his hometown more prosperous and varied 183.
• Political noninterference is conditional. Lin Xiao promises not to interfere with the Li imperial court so long as it acts for the country and its people 255.

Screening and Admission

• Heart-Questioning Road: Screens character during recruitment. It is also used to assess prospective schoolteachers alongside an academic interview 374 448.
• Background is not an automatic barrier: Lingxian accepts applicants connected to other organizations. Some Rogue Cultivators pass the trial and become Azure Cloud Peak disciples, although most are rejected 523 546.
• Recruitment is limited by teaching capacity: The sect distinguishes hiring laborers from accepting disciples, whose education, resources, accommodation, daily life, and guidance become its responsibility 575.

Disciple Training and Welfare

• Flexible study: Disciples are encouraged to select methods suited to their circumstances and may change methods as their understanding develops 502.
• Shared responsibility for teaching: Senior members are expected to transmit methods and cultivation insights to newcomers 376.
• Simple ceremonies: Disciple-acceptance rites retain only the steps the sect considers necessary. Jiang Youfu, Sun Yigao, Liao Pantu, Liu Chun, Mo Yuanjiao, and Hu Liang all take disciples 461.
• Financial support: Lingxian covers half the additional teleportation costs associated with Liu Chun’s disciple training, treating talent development as a shared responsibility between master and sect 462.
• Family contact: Disciples may relocate their families to Xiushui City. Those visiting distant families during the seven-day New Year holiday can register for sect-arranged spirit-ship transport 586.

Organization

Lin Xiao delegates routine administration and permits members to discuss and approve construction projects during his absence. Liu Yunan directs sect affairs during his early seclusion 211 417.

Original Essence Heart Sutra

The sect’s principal later scripture is a growth-type cultivation method whose grade depends on the practitioner’s understanding 53 118.

• Initially rated S-grade, equivalent to low-grade Heaven Rank 118.
• Can increase or decrease in grade according to individual comprehension, producing different results among practitioners 118.

Lingxian maintains facilities and reference works for alchemy, artifact refining, talisman-making, and formation engraving 116 118 147.

• Artifact refining: Produces weapons, farm tools, transport, and everyday cultivation equipment. Members develop their own jade-slip manufacturing process, reducing costs and creating another saleable product 115 133 410.
• Talismans: Supplies trade orders and teaches selected techniques to partner organizations, including plans to teach the Li Clan Sound Transmission Talismans 482 565.
• Alchemy: Conducts experimental pill research, although inadequate cultivation can prevent a practitioner from stabilizing a furnace at the final stage 489.
• Formations: Applies formation techniques to cultivation, farming, defense, and infrastructure 208 533 565.
• Practical research: Sun Yigao, Mo Yuanjiao, and others develop mosquito-repellent lamp oil that remains effective through the summer 451.

Defensive System

• Controlled entry: Nonmembers initially cannot enter without permission; Lin Xiao can alter access rights 5.
• Expandable coverage: The boundary grows with sect construction, from ten meters to a documented 1,500-meter radius 5 417.
• Adjustable range: Coverage can be modified rather than remaining fixed 417.
• Separated public access: A road behind Azure Cloud Peak allows invited guests to reach the plaza without crossing the Heart-Questioning Road. During events, the Mountain-Protecting Grand Formation separates the plaza from the most protected grounds while retaining basic protection there 533.

• Ten-Li Peach Blossom Tree — Founding reward planted beside the mountain path; blossoms immediately. Its branches provide material for exceptional peachwood swords 3 90 91.
• Sect stele — Appears when the sect is named and upgrades with its core cultivation method 3 53.
• Sect uniforms — Early uniforms are white with dark-green collars, bamboo-leaf motifs forming the Lingxian characters, patterned belts, and automatic sizing. Qin Jianghe initially offers both a contribution and a loan toward Xiushui Village’s proposed upgrade to a town. He and Liu Yunan subsequently propose a city incorporating the trading center, anticipating merchant caravans and alternatives to farming for residents. Lin Xiao approves because the sect’s growth should strengthen the community’s ability to support itself 471 516.

• Agricultural support: Supplies spirit seeds, fertilizer, and formation plates; buys the resulting spirit grain with Spirit Stones while deducting supply costs 565.
• Land protection: Xiushui City prevents private land sales and provides arrangements for exchanging deeds or household assets for silver and loans 565.
