Background / History

Queen of the Tagor Desert

Medusa rules the Snake-People Tribe, whose relations with the four neighboring human empires are hostile. Her reputation is sufficiently fearsome that Yun Yun initially considers Lu Yuan’s plan to seek her cooperation almost unthinkable. Her people hope that her advancement to Dou Zong will allow them to leave the Tagor Desert 28 37.

More than a decade before meeting Lu Yuan, she sealed Hai Bodong’s cultivation after he entered the desert seeking a map fragment. His repeated attempts to force the seal open inadvertently reinforced it, prolonging its effects rather than overcoming them 30 32.

Medusa later obtained the Green Lotus Core Flame, suffering serious injuries while retrieving it from its lava environment. She prepared Ice Spirit Cold Spring and other resources to use the flame for a dangerous bloodline evolution 32 33 40.

Alliance with Lu Yuan

Lu Yuan deliberately releases energy from Hai Bodong’s Snake Seal to attract Medusa without entering the Snake-People Holy City. She arrives while Hai Bodong is insulting her and threatens him with an energy arrow, but Lu Yuan intervenes with an offer to improve her chances of surviving her evolution 31 32.

His proposal addresses the most dangerous stage: facing a lightning tribulation immediately after the Heavenly Flame has grievously injured her. By contracting her companion snake soul, he can shelter her inside his pupil space until she recovers. Medusa accepts the risk and agrees to help rescue Qing Lin, particularly welcoming the opportunity to attack the Heavenly Snake Mansion 33.

During the ambush, Medusa coordinates with Hai Bodong to break Bai Ya’s defense and suppress him with the Snake Seal. After Qing Lin is rescued, she joins the attack that kills Lu Man and claims a purple serpent-bone whip from the spoils 34 35.

Bloodline Evolution

At the valley behind her temple, Medusa allows Lu Yuan to contract her Purple Nether Flame Snake soul. She then transforms into a giant purple snake and plunges into the Green Lotus Core Flame. The flame burns away much of her flesh and scales, while the tribe’s guards mobilize and its four elders monitor the city through a formation 36 37.

As thunderclouds begin gathering, Lu Yuan draws her into his pupil space, cutting off the tribulation’s ability to sense her. Medusa announces that her evolution has succeeded, delegates urgent tribal affairs to the four elders, and appoints Lu Yuan as a guest elder whom her people must respect 37.

The space nourishes her injured body and accelerates her transformation. She estimates that she can recover in roughly one month rather than the half-year she would otherwise have needed before attempting the tribulation 37.

Recuperation and Further Bargains

While healing inside her old purple serpent skin, Medusa questions Lu Yuan about his separate Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python soul. He attributes it to a powerful inheritance rather than revealing his copying ability 39.

She subsequently agrees to exchange the Green Lotus Core Flame for one pill-refining service from a seventh-tier alchemist, with three sets of ingredients supplied by her. She also grants Lu Yuan a high-grade Spirit Storage from the tribe’s treasury. She remains in his pupil space as he leaves the desert, and is later shown resting in Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python form 39 40 43.

Appearance

Medusa has a humanoid upper body and a purple-scaled snake tail before her evolution 32.

Personality

Medusa is proud, intimidating, and openly vindictive. She threatens Hai Bodong for speaking against her and readily attacks members of the Heavenly Snake Mansion. She also dislikes evasiveness, demanding that Lu Yuan explain his offer directly 32 34.

Despite her reputation, she is pragmatic rather than indiscriminately hostile. She weighs the risks of Lu Yuan’s soul contract against the danger of facing the tribulation while wounded, accepts the better option, and honors their agreement. Lu Yuan explicitly praises her reliability, and she acknowledges his talent, courage, and potential as grounds for future cooperation 33 35 36.

Her determination is particularly evident during her evolution: she endures agony affecting both body and soul without abandoning the attempt. Although she envies Lu Yuan’s apparent inheritance, she rejects blaming fate and resolves to advance through her own efforts. She disdains lying, yet is curious enough to eavesdrop on his private conversations 37 39 40.

• Provides the opportunity to advance to Dou Zong; Lu Yuan states that successful transformation removes future cultivation bottlenecks up to Dou Zun 33.
• Requires surviving a lightning tribulation after the transformation; her retreat into Lu Yuan’s space postpones rather than completes this trial 33 37.
