Background / History

Foundation and Former Strength

The Ye Clan has endured for several hundred years. Its first patriarch, Ye Qingtian, was a Four-Star Dou Zun, an eighth-tier alchemist, and a member of the Pill Tower Elder Council. At its height, the clan produced more than one eighth-tier alchemist and established powerful restrictions protecting its Scripture Repository 5 23.

Ye Qingtian left a soul imprint within the ancestral hall’s plaque, preserving an inheritance for a descendant with sufficiently pure blood and exceptional cultivation and soul talent. Several descendants entered its mental space over the centuries, but none obtained the core inheritance before Ye Qingzhou 23 24.

Decline

A decision made several decades before the story cost the clan many elites and created a gap between its generations. The clan subsequently fell behind its rivals, surviving largely because the Pill Tower’s rules prevented other factions from openly dividing its holdings 34.

More than ten years before the current events, Ye Zhong’s eldest son—the previous patriarch and Ye Xinlan’s father—died while leading clan elites into ruins. Ye Zhengqing later became patriarch. Ye Qingzhou’s grandfather, Ye Fang, and his parents also died during a ruins expedition important to the clan 21 24.

By Ye Qingzhou’s generation, cultivation resources were scarce, the strongest member was a Six-Star Dou Zong, and the clan had gone more than a century without producing an eighth-tier alchemist. Repeated assessment failures threatened both its Pill Tower elder seat and its position among the Five Great Families 1 23.

Organization and Members

Leadership

Ye Zhong’s decisions carry overriding authority within the clan. When he is in seclusion, Patriarch Ye Zhengqing exercises the greatest practical authority. Formal titles are required during official discussions in the ancestral hall, even between close relatives 16 24.

Branches and Disciple Advancement

  • Main and collateral branches: Branch-family children receive substantially fewer resources than direct descendants before reaching Dou Zhe. Ye Qingzhou’s line became collateral in his father’s generation 1 5.
  • Compensation for service: Ye Qingzhou’s family received death compensation and continued clan care after his relatives died in its service 21.
  • Core disciple competition: High-ranking participants receive permission to select rewards from the Scripture Repository and Treasure Repository 5.
  • Early Da Dou Shi breakthrough: Members who reach Da Dou Shi before twenty qualify for continued cultivation support and fourth-floor repository access 4 6.
  • Seed disciples: These disciples outrank core disciples and receive priority investment because they may preserve the clan’s Pill Tower standing 12 35.
  • Character assessment: Ye Zhong requires loyalty, disposition, and personal history to be investigated before committing exceptional resources to a newly discovered genius 12.

Despite occasional rivalry, the clan’s overall atmosphere is described as good, with strict rules and strong expectations of propriety 21.

Territory and Facilities

Ye City and Clan Estate

  • Ye City: The clan’s ancestral city and territory, within the Pill Tower’s sphere of influence 4 33.
  • Main estate: The largest estate in the city; branch disciples occupy its southwestern courtyards 4.
  • Central plaza: Temporarily lent to Jia Nan Academy for recruitment 33.
  • Internal Affairs Hall: Issues identity tokens, clothing, allowances, and residential assignments 6.
  • Lingxi Courtyard: Assigned to Ye Qingzhou after his Da Dou Shi breakthrough 6.
  • Ancestral hall: Houses spirit tablets, hosts major leadership decisions, and contains Ye Qingtian’s hidden inheritance plaque 22 24.

Scripture Repository

The Scripture Repository is a six-story stone building near the estate’s rear training ground. Its inherited restrictions are powerful enough to prevent even a Dou Zong from forcing entry 4 5.

Area / Rule Access and Restrictions
First and second floors Open to clan members who have reached Dou Zhe; contain records, cultivation methods, and Dou Techniques 4
Third floor and above Require specific qualifications or authorization 4
Fourth floor Members reaching Da Dou Shi before twenty may select one cultivation method and one Dou Technique 4

Cultivation Resources and Inheritances

  • Contains an ancestral soul-imprint trial directing successful descendants toward the Blazing Flame Bodhi Scripture in the Pill Tower’s repository 5.
  • Its Earth Tier portion was left in the Little Pill Tower. Ye Zhong considers spending clan contribution points to secure Ye Qingzhou access to the Pill Tower’s library 12 19.

Major Story Events

Discovery of Ye Qingzhou

Ye Xinlan discovers that Ye Qingzhou has grasped the Crimson Flame Bodhi Scripture’s basics overnight and reports his talent to Ye Zhong. After investigating his character and personally observing his cultivation and technique practice, Ye Zhong identifies him as a possible means of preserving the clan’s Pill Tower position 12 15 16.

The leadership initially grants him seed-disciple standing publicly and young-patriarch treatment privately. After he reveals the ancestral soul inheritance, it agrees to provide resources exceeding those of the young patriarch without requiring him to become the clan’s future leader 21 24.

Jia Nan Academy Recruitment

The Qiu Family uses Jia Nan Academy’s recruitment in Ye City to attack the clan’s reputation. Its disciples defeat several Ye juniors, while Qiu Tao is brought specifically to suppress any outstanding Ye candidate and encourage other factions to move against the declining clan 34 35 36.

Ye Qingzhou reverses that public humiliation by earning gold first-place results in all three Mysterious Heaven Jade Token assessments. His performance restores confidence among the clan’s disciples and attracts wider attention to its prospects 38 39.

The leadership remains concerned that his conspicuous talent will make him a target. Although Ye Zhengqing urges him to stay under clan protection, Ye Zhong ultimately supports his enrollment after learning that his assessment reward is an Intermediate Di Tier technique connected to the Lei Clan 40.

External Relationships

  • Pill Tower — Institutional protector and source of the clan’s Five Great Families privileges. Continued membership and its elder seat depend on passing assessments conducted through the younger generation 23 32.
  • Qiu Family — Open rival seeking to exploit the clan’s decline. Beyond public suppression, Qiu Tian orders Qiu Tao to follow Ye Qingzhou to Jia Nan Academy and find an opportunity to kill him 35 36 40.
  • Bai Family — Another family eyeing the Ye Clan’s holdings; less openly aggressive than the Qiu Family 35.
  • Cao Family — A stronger rival whose prodigy Cao Ying serves as a benchmark for the talent needed to secure the clan’s future. Ye Zhong fears it will participate in attacks if the Ye Clan loses its protected status 12 34.
  • Dan Family — The longest-established of the Five Great Families, with a heritage exceeding a thousand years and an exceptionally secure position. Dan Chen is another benchmark used by Ye Zhong 12 34.
  • Jia Nan Academy — Sends an Inner Academy recruitment team to Ye City every three years. Ye Qingzhou secures admission while retaining the clan’s support 27 32 39.
