Lin Yunji was originally a modern human. In his previous life, he entered a vegetative state in which he could hear but could neither see nor communicate. After transmigrating to the Primordial World, he became a stalk of jade bamboo in the Kunlun Mountain region and eventually took human form 2 77.

The Realm Breakthrough System bound itself to him and repeatedly supplied Cultivation Points, allowing him to advance without actively cultivating. Rather than welcoming unlimited growth, he initially feared that becoming too powerful would destroy the world containing him and force him into a lonely existence elsewhere 2.

He became Tongtian’s disciple, while Laozi and Heavenly Venerable Yuanshi also taught and protected him as though he were their own student. His knowledge of the Three Pure Ones’ future estrangement made him especially conscious of their familial bond 3 4 39.

Personality

Lin Yunji values a lively, colorful existence more than supreme authority or ultimate strength. His fondness for sleeping, eating, drinking, wandering, and teasing others reflects the freedom he lacked in his previous life. He even sleeps through thirty thousand years of Hongjun’s preaching, provoking a furious response from his teachers 10 76 77.

He is irreverent even toward those he loves, routinely teasing Tongtian and his martial uncles. Beneath that behavior, he remains deeply attached to them: their concern moves him, and he continues to honor them after far surpassing their cultivation 44 215 430.

His instruction combines genuine insight with deliberate humiliation. He answers the Chan disciples’ cultivation questions effortlessly, then beats them or leaves difficult-to-remove drawings on their faces. Yuanshi nevertheless credits him with making them steadier and more obedient 76 77 78.

Although confident and often provocative, he can recognize his limits. He rejects the idea that possessing several supreme treasures makes him truly invincible, acknowledges Kunsheng’s superiority, and conceals his movements when remaining in hostile territory would be reckless 312 313 335.
