The Eagle and the Tiger
That day, after watering the fields and playing with the puppy for a while, Su Ye grew bored and shared a large watermelon with the puppy and the wild boar.
Most of the watermelons in the field had ripened. Looking at the melons, each as big as three or four basketballs, Su Ye could not help feeling happy.
Another substantial sum was coming his way, and he felt delighted.
At around three or four in the afternoon, Su Ye had nothing to do and was cooling off under the shade shelter when he suddenly seemed to hear a tiger roar from Mount Jiuhua.
Ever since Su Ye began cultivating an immortal cultivation method, all six of his senses had grown much sharper. Even the faintest sounds could not escape his ears, and his formerly nearsighted eyes had recovered, with his vision becoming even better than before. He could now make out a person's face from several kilometers away.
As soon as Su Ye heard the roar, he settled the puppy somewhere safe and hurried up the mountain.
He followed the little gully he had taken last time, and when he reached the place where he had hunted the wild boar, another tiger roar rang out.
By the time Su Ye reached the place where he had dug up the wild camellia, the roars were growing closer and closer, accompanied this time by bursts of eagle cries.
He was about a kilometer from Qinghua's cave abode, and he raced through the forest.
Beneath a giant tree, a huge white tiger was facing off against an eagle.
The white tiger was enormous, more than twice the size of a tiger in a zoo. A large marking in the shape of the character for "king" adorned its forehead, and black and white stripes covered its body. Its limbs were thick and powerful, and its tail swayed slightly like a steel whip.
As for the eagle... ahem, that eagle...
The eagle was unusually enormous as well, several times larger than an ordinary eagle. Its feathers were black, as if coated in ink, and its curved beak resembled a sharp sickle. Its alert eyes were white with a trace of black.
The tiger and eagle were facing each other on the ground, and a trace of wariness seemed to show in both their eyes.
Su Ye watched from a nearby tree.
This tiger and eagle both seem unusual, Su Ye murmured to himself.
Their size alone set them far above others of their kind. Besides, how could a tiger and an eagle come to hate each other?
One was the king of the land, the other the king of the sky. Could the tiger have snatched food the eagle had set its sights on? That was obviously impossible.
Judging by the surroundings, this was clearly the white tiger's territory, because beside the great tree was a pitch-black cave entrance over three meters high.
This was clearly the white tiger's den, but why had the eagle appeared here and gotten into a dispute with it?
Concealing himself in the tree, Su Ye continued to watch. As the seconds and minutes ticked by, the white tiger and the eagle remained locked in their standoff, neither making the first move.
Just as Su Ye had waited so long that the sandman was coming for him, the tiger attacked. First it let out a roar, then raised a powerful paw and swiped at the eagle.
The eagle showed not the slightest fear and lunged forward.
Tiger paw met eagle talon, and the tiger's paw clearly had the upper hand. When it came to strength, the eagle was obviously no match for the tiger.
The eagle gave a cry, withdrew its talon, and took the opportunity to fly into the air.
The white tiger clearly had no intention of letting it succeed. It leaped up and struck the eagle's wing with a paw.
The blow sent the eagle off balance in midair, and it crashed down to one side.
The white tiger had clearly gained the upper hand in that exchange. After all, a tiger held an absolute advantage in a ground fight, and in this dense forest, the eagle could not bring its strengths to bear, while the tiger's were on full display.
Before long, the eagle stood up as if nothing had happened. Su Ye was startled. Is its body made of iron? It took a full-force blow from the tiger and can still get up like nothing happened?
The tiger, however, did not seem surprised. It merely watched the eagle warily.
The eagle had clearly been thoroughly enraged by the tiger. After getting to its feet, it swept a wing at the white tiger, and a beam of azure light immediately shot from it.
The white tiger's body shuddered at the sight. It opened its jaws and spat out a ball of white light at the eagle.
"Boom!!!"
The white and azure lights collided, sending energy spreading in all directions and kicking up clouds of dust and leaves.
Su Ye, who was watching from his tree, was utterly dumbfounded!
What did I just see? They're actually two demonic beasts!!
Could this white tiger be the one the village chief saw?
A string of questions arose in Su Ye's mind.
The white tiger and the eagle's attacks had been evenly matched, and neither had gained an advantage.
But after using that move, the tiger and the eagle seemed to have been drained of all their strength. They simply stood there, staring at each other again.
A closer look would have revealed that the tiger's powerful limbs seemed to be trembling slightly. The eagle was the same: its two exceptionally sturdy legs had also begun to twitch irregularly.
Clearly, they had both reached the end of the road.
At that point, Su Ye stopped watching the show from the tree. With a few bounds, he jumped down to the ground.
The appearance of this uninvited guest clearly startled both the tiger and the eagle, and then both beasts showed expressions of anger at the same time.
The tiger spat another ball of white light at Su Ye, while the eagle swept a great wing and unleashed a beam of azure light. The two streaks of light sped toward the spot where Su Ye had landed, as though locked onto him.
Su Ye was startled by the sight. He immediately directed two streams of spiritual power into his hands, quickly forming two blue shields.
"Boom!!!"
Another tremendous blast rang out, and the leaves and dust that had just settled were swept up once more.
"Cough, cough, cough!!!"
Su Ye accidentally choked on the dust filling the air. Clearly, both beams of light had been blocked by the water shields.
This was Su Ye's first time fighting with techniques, though he had gained a great advantage by sitting on the mountain and watching the tigers fight.
After unleashing that attack, the tiger and the eagle immediately staggered and fell to the ground. Clearly, both had reached the point where their oil was spent and their lamps had gone dry.
Seeing that their killing moves had failed to affect Su Ye, both showed despair in their eyes, along with a trace of shock and a trace of curiosity.
They were the true overlords of this place, and practically everything within a dozen or so li was their territory. When had such a formidable fellow appeared?
Looking at the two fallen beasts, Su Ye walked up to them and took the azure longsword Qinghua had left behind out of the Immortal Spirit Space, preparing to end their lives.
Just as Su Ye raised the longsword and prepared to strike, he suddenly froze. Then he put the sword away, tightly shut his eyes, and extended his spiritual sense, using the Beast Taming Art to rush into the white tiger's sea of consciousness.
Then he did the same to the eagle, using the Beast Taming Art on it as well.
