Going Home
When Wu Zhaolong saw Li Anlan and the burly man called Master Hu push through the door one after the other, anger flared in his eyes. If looks could kill, he would have killed them both hundreds and thousands of times over.
But the third person to enter left Wu Zhaolong stunned.
Wu Jianguo followed behind Li Anlan and Master Hu with his head lowered and his back bent, looking just like a lackey.
When Wu Jianguo saw Wu Zhaolong tied up, fury burned in his chest. He went over and slapped him several times.
"You unfilial son! You go around stirring up trouble every day and bringing nothing but disaster down on me. Let's see who can save you this time!"
Hearing that, Wu Zhaolong realized he had kicked an iron plate today. He tried to speak, but with a sponge stuffed in his mouth, all he could manage was a muffled "Mmph."
Seeing this, Li Anlan gave Master Hu a look. Master Hu understood at once, stepped forward, and yanked the sponge out of Wu Zhaolong's mouth.
"Dad, I was wrong!"
Now that his mouth was free, Wu Zhaolong coughed twice and admitted his mistake to Wu Jianguo.
Hearing his son admit his mistake, Wu Jianguo felt his heart soften, but he said:
"What good does telling me do? Hurry up and apologize to Chairman Li and Master Hu!"
Wu Zhaolong looked at Li Anlan and Master Hu. So he really was Chairman Li of Zunhuang Entertainment. Then Su Ye and An Mu...
"Chairman Li, Master Hu, I was wrong to offend you today. Please be magnanimous and let me off this once," Wu Zhaolong said respectfully to the two men.
Li Anlan shook his head and said to Wu Jianguo, his face expressionless, "Didn't I just tell you? I'm not the one he really offended. That person is someone even I wouldn't dare provoke lightly. Didn't you hear me?"
"Is there really no other way?" Wu Jianguo said, looking utterly despondent.
Seeing this, Li Anlan shook his head and sighed.
"Come with me. Say a few nice things later, and maybe he'll let you go like a fart!"
Meanwhile, Su Ye and An Mu sat comfortably in chairs in the office, drinking coffee.
"Fourth Brother, look at you! We haven't been apart that long, and you've already bought a luxury car and gotten to know a big shot like Chairman Li. I can hardly recognize you anymore!"
An Mu took a sip of coffee as he spoke to Su Ye.
Hearing An Mu say that, Su Ye also reflected on how much had changed recently. He spoke slowly:
"I'm still Su Ye, aren't I? How could you not recognize me?"
The two chatted for a while longer before the door opened. Li Anlan came in first, followed by the burly Master Hu.
As soon as Li Anlan entered, he smiled and said to Su Ye:
"Brother Su, Wu Zhaolong's father is here. The two of them are kneeling outside the door now. How do you plan to deal with him?"
Su Ye looked at An Mu, as if asking, What do you want to do?
Li Anlan also turned his gaze to An Mu. Could someone who went around with Su Ye and called him brother be the eldest son of some family too?
With everyone looking at him, An Mu felt a little at a loss. He had never been in a situation like this before. He quickly waved his hand and said to Su Ye:
"You decide. What can I do to him anyway?"
Su Ye turned back to Li Anlan. "You decide, Chairman Li. Honestly, I don't have any deep-seated grudge against him. We just had a little disagreement!"
Hearing Su Ye say that, Li Anlan took it to mean that Su Ye was giving him face. After all, Wu Jianguo was one of his employees.
Wu Jianguo had already been dismissed by Li Anlan. He took Wu Zhaolong and fled with his tail between his legs, without looking back.
"An Mu is a good buddy of mine. Please look after him in the future, Chairman Li!"
Su Ye spoke sincerely to Li Anlan.
Su Ye had just asked An Mu in the office whether he wanted to follow him into farming, but An Mu had declined his offer. He didn't know how to farm, and he told Su Ye that if he ever couldn't get by in the city, he would go to him then.
Only just now, however, had Li Anlan learned from his conversation with Su Ye that An Mu, the young man who had clashed with Wu Zhaolong, worked at this bar. That made him one of Li Anlan's employees too.
"Don't worry, Brother Su. As long as I'm here, he definitely won't be mistreated."
Li Anlan smiled and patted his chest as he made the promise.
After Su Ye left, Li Anlan gave orders to promote An Mu to trainee general manager of the Honored Emperor Bar. As soon as the current general manager was transferred elsewhere, An Mu could take the general manager's chair.
After saying goodbye to Li Anlan, Su Ye drove to a hotel and checked in.
Early the next morning, Su Ye drove out of Guanhai City, racing toward Lingnan.
It was already afternoon by the time Su Ye got home. He had only been away for a few days, but an enormous foundation had appeared beside his house. It was for the house his father was planning to build.
A concrete ring beam had already been poured all the way around the foundation. From the look of things, the finished house would be at least three hundred square meters.
Su Ye's parents weren't home. He asked the workers and learned that they had gone to the vegetable garden.
When Su Ye reached the orange grove, he saw his father digging in the vegetable garden while his mother sat resting under a shade shelter nearby.
His parents saw him arrive as well.
"Little Ye, you're back!"
his mother called.
His father also looked up and turned around, then put down his farm tool and walked toward the shelter.
Seeing Su Weicheng walking over to them, Su Ye smiled and urged him:
"Dad, you don't need to dig the vegetable garden now! It's already autumn, so we can't plant vegetables. I'm planning to put up some greenhouses before we plant anything!"
Once the greenhouses were finished, Su Ye's farm would be able to produce fruit and vegetables practically all year round.
Su Ye's father, Su Weicheng, and his mother, Ye Xiaoning, belonged to a generation of rural people who depended entirely on their few plots of land for a living. They were used to working, and if you asked them to change their way of life, it wasn't a habit they could break in a day or two.
Fortunately, after being nourished by Su Ye's spirit water and various spiritual things, many of his parents' hidden ailments had been healed. Even some young adults in their thirties might not be as fit as they were.
"Woof! Woof! Woof!"
Hearing people talking, several puppies began yapping in their babyish voices beside the pigpen. A little later, four black shapes appeared around Su Ye's pant legs. The four little black dogs wagged their tails, seemingly welcoming him home.
"Brother Ye, you're back?"
A delighted voice came from behind Su Ye. He turned around and saw that it was Zhang Erhu!
"Erhu, when were you discharged from the hospital?"
Seeing that it was Zhang Erhu, Su Ye asked with a smile.
"Just yesterday, Brother Ye. The strange thing is, the doctor said my injuries would keep me in bed for at least a month, but who would've thought I'd be better in a few days? The doctor couldn't figure out why and only said I was in very good shape."
At that moment, Su Ye's mother said to him:
"That boy Erhu only got out of the hospital yesterday, but he came here to help first thing this morning. I told him to rest a few more days, but he wouldn't listen. That child..."
As Su Ye's mother spoke helplessly, Zhang Erhu gave a sheepish grin, scratched the back of his head, and said:
"It's all right, Auntie Ye. Even the doctor said I'm better. I've been away so long and haven't been able to help out here at all. Besides, this work isn't hard."
