College and Employment

An Mu was the eldest of Su Ye’s four college roommates. The roommates signed up for their driving licenses together and were generally well liked by their classmates. Wu Zhaolong resented An Mu for frequently approaching Zhao Shanshan, whom Wu liked, and extended that resentment to the rest of their dorm 38 39.

After college, An Mu worked as a waiter at the Honored Emperor Bar in Guanhai City. He had previously tolerated Wu Zhaolong for their roommate Third Brother’s sake. With both Third Brother and Second Brother living in other provinces, he asked Su Ye to accompany him to a reunion Wu had arranged at his workplace 38 40.

Reunion with Su Ye

An Mu invited Su Ye out for milk tea and learned that he had left his office job to farm. Assuming his friend was struggling, An Mu repeatedly offered to recommend him for a vacancy at his own company. He dismissed Su Ye’s claim of making nearly a hundred million as a joke 38.

His impression changed when Su Ye revealed his silver Porsche 918 and handed him the keys. An Mu abandoned their proposed internet café visit in favor of driving the supercar around the ring road for more than two hours. Embarrassed by his earlier job offer, he asked whether farming really could earn that much money 39.

Class Reunion Conflict

At the reunion, a coworker greeted An Mu, revealing his employment to the other classmates. Wu Zhaolong mocked him for being a waiter. An Mu stood up and defended the honesty of his work; Su Ye then intervened on his behalf. When Wu insulted them both, An Mu clenched his fists but did not attack him 40.

Li Anlan’s arrival turned the confrontation against Wu. An Mu recognized Master Hu when the bodyguard punched Wu unconscious, identifying him to Su Ye as the martial artist he had mentioned earlier. He then accompanied Su Ye to Li Anlan’s office while Wu’s father was summoned 41.

When asked how Wu should be dealt with, An Mu was overwhelmed by the unfamiliar situation and left the decision to Su Ye. He also declined Su Ye’s offer to join him in farming because he did not know how to farm, saying he would seek him out if he could no longer get by in the city 42.

Before leaving, Su Ye asked Li Anlan to look after An Mu. Li promised that he would not be mistreated and subsequently ordered his promotion to trainee general manager. An Mu was to become general manager once the incumbent transferred elsewhere 42.

Personality

An Mu mixes teasing humor with practical concern for his friends. He jokes that Su Ye’s milk tea was purchased because the second cup was half price, but repeatedly offers employment help when he believes Su Ye needs it. He leaves the offer open even after being turned down 38.

He is sensitive to humiliation but willing to defend himself, openly challenging Wu Zhaolong’s contempt for service work. Despite their hostility, he does not demand retaliation when Wu is placed at their mercy 40 42.
