Chapters 1–26 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 1The Secret of the Marrow Cleansing Classic

After using the All-Heavens Dao Fruit Simulator, Mo Wenjian learned the secret of the Marrow Cleansing Classic and claimed he had comprehended it through his efforts. He offered to share the art with Shaolin Temple, while Abbot Xingshan welcomed the discovery and began hoping Mo Wenjian would reveal even greater teachings.

  • Mo Wenjian used the All-Heavens Dao Fruit Simulator and chose the secret of the Marrow Cleansing Classic, which could improve his poor cultivation aptitude.
  • Mo Wenjian went to the Mahavira Hall and told Abbot Xingshan that his longing to improve had brought the Marrow Cleansing Classic to his memory.
  • Abbot Xingshan celebrated Mo Wenjian's comprehension of an ultimate art, seeing it as proof that he was a reincarnated Buddha.
  • Mo Wenjian offered to write out the Marrow Cleansing Classic so all Shaolin monks could study it.
  • Abbot Xingshan briefly considered keeping the art exclusive to abbots, then decided it was insignificant compared with the greater Buddhist teachings he expected Mo Wenjian to reveal.

Ch. 2Dao Fruit - National Martial Arts Theory

Mo Wenjian used the All-Heavens Simulator and chose National Martial Arts theory, gaining insights into adapting cultivation methods to each person’s body. After the Shaolin monks summoned him, the heads of the six halls asked him to explain the Marrow Cleansing Classic.

  • Mo Wenjian simulated a life in which he developed Muscle Tendon Changing and Marrow Cleansing Yoga and reached Early An Jin shortly before dying at age 149.
  • Mo Wenjian chose National Martial Arts theory over the other Dao Fruits and spent the night absorbing its memories.
  • Mo Wenjian realized that cultivation methods needed to be adjusted to each practitioner's individual body and proportions.
  • Mo Wenjian woke late and went to the Mahavira Hall after a monk told him the abbot and six hall heads were waiting.
  • The heads of Bodhidharma Hall, Prajna Hall, and Bodhi Hall thanked Mo Wenjian for the Marrow Cleansing Classic and asked him to lecture on it.

Ch. 3One Sentence of True Teaching, Ten Thousand Scrolls of False Teaching

Mo Wenjian lectured Shaolin’s eminent monks on adapting cultivation methods to each practitioner, then helped Abbot Xingshan break through to the Gang Force realm. Xingshan resigned as abbot to protect Mo Wenjian, who chose Master Xingku as his successor.

  • Mo Wenjian announced a lecture on the Marrow Cleansing Classic and questioned the monks about their bodies and cultivation manuals.
  • Mo Wenjian explained that practitioners should adjust cultivation methods to suit their own circumstances rather than follow texts blindly.
  • Abbot Xingshan adjusted his Muscle-Tendon Changing Classic forms under Mo Wenjian’s guidance and broke through to become a Gang Force national martial arts grandmaster.
  • Abbot Xingshan pledged his loyalty to Mo Wenjian and resigned, offering to become his dedicated Dao protector.
  • Mo Wenjian selected Master Xingku to inherit the position of abbot, and the six hall heads agreed.

Ch. 4Dao Fruit: The Strength of Early Huajin

Mo Wenjian simulated a life that led to Early Huajin and chose its strength as his Dao Fruit. He then lectured Shaolin’s monks on the Marrow Cleansing Classic, but the gathering was interrupted by the arrival of His Lordship the Beile.

  • Mo Wenjian reviewed his plans for the scripture lecture, then used the simulator and saw a life in which he reached Early Huajin before dying at age seventy-five.
  • Mo Wenjian rejected the options of squeezing out bodily potential and the Five Animal Sinew Transformation Classic, deciding to claim the strength of Early Huajin.
  • Master Xingshan summoned Mo Wenjian to the Bodhidharma Hall, where more than three thousand Shaolin disciples had gathered.
  • Mo Wenjian explained the Marrow Cleansing Classic, answering questions from monks at different cultivation stages with ease.
  • A voice outside Shaolin Temple announced that His Lordship the Beile had arrived just as the lecture was ending.

Ch. 5The Beile, a Tool

The Beile provoked Shaolin Temple and challenged Mo Wenjian, but Master Xingshan’s power forced him to his knees. Mo Wenjian recognized that the Beile was only a Middle Stage of Dark Force fighter and realized he could use him as a tool.

  • Mo Wenjian sent most of the Shaolin monks away before the Beile entered the Bodhidharma Hall with his generals.
  • The Beile insulted Mo Wenjian’s status as the reincarnated Buddha’s Son and threatened Shaolin Temple with destruction.

Ch. 6Judging a Gentleman by a Petty Man's Heart

Mo Wenjian revealed his Early Huajin strength at Shaolin Temple, secured the generals’ belief that he was the Buddha reincarnated, and left the beile disgraced. After practicing his new abilities, he used the Dao Fruit Simulator and saw a future in which he developed his cultivation method and created the Heavenly Gang Thirty-Six Fists.

  • Mo Wenjian claimed the Early Huajin Dao Fruit and rapidly rose to Early Huajin before the Shaolin monks and Great Qing generals.
  • The generals knelt and hailed Mo Wenjian as the Buddha’s son, while the beile coughed up blood and fainted.
  • Mo Wenjian rebuked the beile, then returned to his meditation room to study the differences between Ming Jin, An Jin, and Huajin.
  • At midnight, Mo Wenjian opened the All-Heavens Dao Fruit Simulator and saw that his future self would combine three Shaolin practices and break through to Middle Huajin.
  • The simulation showed Mo Wenjian creating a basic fist art that led to Late Huajin, then developing it into the Heavenly Gang Thirty-Six Fists.

Ch. 7Dao Fruit: Heavenly Gang Thirty-Six Fists

Mo Wenjian chose the Heavenly Gang Thirty-Six Fists Dao Fruit and taught the method to Master Decai, whose physique suited it better than the Vajra Prajna Palm. Master Decai broke through to Gang Force, and Mo Wenjian realized the method skipped the usual qualitative change in Qi and Blood, making the breakthrough easier.

  • Mo Wenjian selected the Heavenly Gang Thirty-Six Fists Dao Fruit over Early Dan Jin strength and Muscle Tendon Changing and Marrow Cleansing Yoga.
  • Mo Wenjian visited the pagoda forest and assessed Master Decai as a Dan Jin expert with little room to improve.
  • Mo Wenjian explained that Master Decai's lack of compatibility with the Vajra Prajna Palm was holding back his breakthrough and offered him the Heavenly Gang Thirty-Six Fists.
  • Master Decai learned the method from Mo Wenjian and practiced it under his guidance.
  • After nine rounds, Master Decai's Qi and Blood surged out as protective Gang Qi, and he broke through to Gang Force.
  • Mo Wenjian noticed that Master Decai's Qi and Blood had skipped the qualitative-change stage and realized the Heavenly Gang Thirty-Six Fists made the breakthrough easier.

Ch. 8A Battle Between Gang Force Martial Arts Grandmasters

Mo Wenjian revealed the Heavenly Gang Thirty-Six Fists to Master Decai and arranged a spar with Master Xingshan to test its effects. After discovering that the two newly advanced Gang Force grandmasters were nearly evenly matched, they continued their fight at the pagoda forest until nightfall.

  • Mo Wenjian explained the Heavenly Gang Thirty-Six Fists’ strengths and drawbacks, then asked Master Decai to record the method for Shaolin monks to study.
  • Master Decai and Master Xingshan fought to compare their newly acquired Gang Force, with Xingshan’s transformed Qi and Blood proving stronger at first.
  • Master Decai used the Golden Bell Shield, Diamond Sutra, and Immovable Wisdom King Seal to pressure Xingshan despite his weaker Qi and Blood.
  • Master Xingshan conceded, then agreed to move the contest away from the pagodas and fight in an open space with Mo Wenjian observing.
  • Master Decai and Master Xingshan fought from morning until night, their varied techniques and greater Qi and Blood leaving them nearly evenly matched.

Ch. 9Dao Fruit: The Strength of Dan Jin Perfection

  • Mo Wenjian reviewed a simulated life in which he advanced to Dan Jin Perfection and guided Shaolin through generations of upheaval.
  • Mo Wenjian rejected the ten-thousand-year-old lingzhi and cold jade, then claimed the strength of Dan Jin Perfection.

  • Mo Wenjian explained that he had reached Dan Jin Perfection in his sleep, and Master Xingshan congratulated him.

Ch. 10Research into the Qualitative Transformation of Qi and Blood

Mo Wenjian spent his life researching how to transform Qi and Blood, eventually discovering that a golden pill could temper it through repeated transmutations. He died at age 299 without surpassing the Six-Revolution Golden Pill, and the simulator offered him a Dao Fruit.

  • At age 16, Mo Wenjian’s Heavenly Gang Thirty-Six Fists helped Shaolin monks break through to Gang Force, and the Jiaqing Emperor honored him as Dharma Master Who Protects the Nation.
  • Mo Wenjian spent decades studying the qualitative transformation of Qi and Blood, later turning to ancient texts and discovering the fangshi’s golden-pill tradition.
  • After years of alchemy research, Mo Wenjian realized at age 136 that Qi and Blood might be tempered like iron, then refined a golden pill that transformed Qi and Blood.
  • Mo Wenjian mastered the Three-Transmutation Golden Elixir before his lifespan forced him to break through to Gang Force, where he found Qi and Blood far harder to transform.
  • Mo Wenjian advanced his pill technique to Six-Revolution and made it public, but neither he nor researchers worldwide achieved a further breakthrough.
  • At age 299, Mo Wenjian died peacefully of old age with regrets, and the simulator asked him to choose a Dao Fruit.

Ch. 11Dao Fruit: Sixth-Transformation Pill Refining Technique

Mo Wenjian chose the Sixth-Transformation Pill Refining Technique and refined a Six-Revolution Golden Pill with the head of Bodhi Hall. The head used it to achieve six transformations of Qi and Blood, break through to Gang Force and Innate, and display a power that overwhelmed Master Suhui.

  • Mo Wenjian chose the Sixth-Transformation Pill Refining Technique and went to Bodhi Hall to tell its head that it could improve the Heavenly Gang Thirty-Six Fists with a Six-Revolution Golden Pill.
  • Mo Wenjian agreed to refine a pill for the head of Bodhi Hall, and the monks prepared the furnace despite the late hour.
  • Mo Wenjian and the head of Bodhi Hall completed the Six-Revolution Golden Pill, whose power triggered six transformations in the head’s Qi and Blood and broke him through to Gang Force.
  • The head of Bodhi Hall manifested a hundred-zhang bodhi tree and a vast moonlight mirror, which merged into a moon disk behind his head.
  • The head of Bodhi Hall said he had entered the Dao through martial arts and defeated Master Suhui’s Tathagata manifestation with an Arhat Fist move.

Ch. 12Entering the Dao Through Martial Arts, the Divide Between Immortals and Mortals

After Mo Wenjian’s Six-Revolution Golden Pills let Shaolin monks enter the Dao through martial arts, he promised to make more after resting. He checked the simulator, which projected decades of pill refining, political upheaval, and his struggle to understand the Nine-Revolution Golden Pill, ending with a possible insight into its creation.

  • The head of Bodhi Hall marveled at the strength gained through six transformations of Qi and Blood, while Master Xingshan and Master Deyuan speculated about the moonlight’s role.
  • Master Suhui asked Mo Wenjian for Six-Revolution Golden Pills, and Mo Wenjian said he would refine them after recovering.
  • Mo Wenjian returned to his room, slept, and opened the All-Heavens Dao Fruit Simulator after waking the next morning.
  • The simulation showed Mo Wenjian’s pills and martial arts reshaping relations between Shaolin, the Great Qing court, and the jianghu over decades.
  • The simulation ended with Mo Wenjian still unable to refine a Nine-Revolution Golden Pill, but gaining an insight while reconsidering the history of pill refining.

Ch. 13Dao Fruit: The Strength of a Gang Force National Martial Arts Legend

Mo Wenjian chose the strength of a Gang Force national martial arts legend Dao Fruit and underwent nine transformations of Qi and Blood, becoming a Gang Force national martial arts legend. He used his new power to help Master Suhui enter the Dao through martial arts, then opened the All-Heavens Dao Fruit Simulator again.

  • Mo Wenjian rejected Heavenly Gang and Earthly Sha Fist Intent and Nine-Revolution Alchemy Technique because refining the pill required lethal radiation, then claimed the strength of a Gang Force national martial arts legend.
  • Mo Wenjian transformed his Qi and Blood nine times, producing a vast purple river and a golden sun disc that bathed Shaolin Temple in solar essence and helped its monks break through.
  • Mo Wenjian mastered the Gang Force realm and announced that he would refine Six-Revolution Golden Pills to help Shaolin monks enter the Dao through martial arts.
  • Master Suhui was chosen to receive the first pill, and at three quarters past midnight he achieved six qualitative transformations and entered the Dao through martial arts.
  • Mo Wenjian returned to his meditation room, found the cooldown had ended, and reopened the All-Heavens Dao Fruit Simulator.

Ch. 14The Five Elements of Heaven and Earth, the Five Organs of the Human Body

The protagonist spent centuries researching the limits of National Martial Arts, developing Five Qi Converge at the Origin and then Unity of Heaven and Celestial Person. After correcting the energy leakage that threatened him, he reached the Leakless Realm, where his ever-growing energy left his body on the verge of exploding.

  • At 27, the protagonist helped establish the Attendant Pavilion so retired martial arts grandmasters could hunt those who harmed the common people, and its members later killed thirty-three notorious grandmasters.
  • At 40, a Great Qing expert who had entered the Dao through martial arts easily smashed Britain's fleet during the First Opium War, while the protagonist continued seeking a path beyond the Gang Force realm.
  • From ages 76 to 116, the protagonist cultivated True Solar Fire and used the five elements to strengthen his organs, completing Five Qi Converge at the Origin.
  • From ages 146 to 186, the protagonist discovered the powers of all five elements and learned to circulate them to temper his organs, locking his Qi and Blood inside his body.
  • At 226, the protagonist worked out Unity of Heaven and Celestial Person but found that his energy leaked away; by 356, he had remedied this flaw and attained the Leakless Body.
  • At 366, the protagonist reached the Leakless Realm, where his energy only increased until his body seemed ready to explode.

Ch. 15Dao Fruit - Longevity Instruction

Mo Wenjian chose the Longevity Instruction Dao Fruit and used it to balance Yin and Yang with the five elements, forming a golden wheel that suited his identity as the Buddha's son. After Master Xingshan arrived, Mo Wenjian reassured him that he would not ascend yet, then went to sleep.

  • Mo Wenjian chose the Longevity Instruction over the Leakless Body and Unity of Heaven and Celestial Person.
  • Mo Wenjian gathered moonlight and Qi and Blood until they formed a balanced Yin-Yang Taiji diagram.
  • Mo Wenjian used the five elements to transform the diagram into a golden wheel.
  • Master Xingshan congratulated Mo Wenjian, and Mo Wenjian told him he no longer needed to guard him.
  • Mo Wenjian considered the difference between his strength and Patriarch Bodhidharma's realm, then agreed with Master Xingshan that he should first see more of the world.
  • Mo Wenjian returned to his meditation room and fell asleep.

Ch. 16Single-Mindedly Increasing His Strength

Mo Wenjian returned to his meditation room after Master Decai entered the Dao through martial arts and used the refreshed simulator to follow his future pursuit of greater strength. The simulation left him studying Fusang onmyoji at age 166, after decades of mastering and adapting cultivation methods from many traditions.

  • Master Decai entered the Dao through martial arts, while Mo Wenjian returned to his meditation room and reopened the simulator.
  • Mo Wenjian became Buddhism’s universally recognized Buddha’s son, but found that Shaolin monks could not fully benefit from the Longevity Instruction or the Five Qi method.
  • Mo Wenjian traded Six-Revolution Golden Pills for cultivation materials and studied Esoteric Buddhism, shamanism, and Chiyou’s inheritance, repeatedly increasing his strength.
  • Mo Wenjian nurtured a Golden Silkworm Gu to seven qualitative transformations and returned it to the holy maiden of the Miao Lands as a sacred treasure.
  • Mo Wenjian mastered Eight Gates Dunjia and increased his strength by eighty percent, then began studying Fusang onmyoji.

Ch. 17Dao Fruit - Power at the Limit of Gang Force

Mo Wenjian chose the Dao Fruit that granted power at the limit of Gang Force, gaining the accumulated physical and Qi-refinement advances from his previous life. He tested his overwhelming strength and True Solar Fire, convinced he could defeat every Gang Force grandmaster at once.

  • Mo Wenjian rejected the Seven-Transformation Golden Silkworm Gu and considered choosing the insights from a lifetime of research.
  • Mo Wenjian chose power at the limit of Gang Force because he believed a future simulation would focus on spirit refinement, while this chance to reach the realm’s limit might not come again.
  • Mo Wenjian claimed the Dao Fruit, gaining an inner pill, the Five Emperors Great Devil Divine Ability, the Three-Legged Golden Crow shikigami, and the relic.
  • Mo Wenjian reached the limit of the Gang Force realm and felt strong enough to crush a hundred former selves with one finger.

Ch. 19Fire in the Thousand Buddha Hall

Shaolin's eminent monks debated whether Mo Wenjian should remain at the temple, fearing he might soon ascend, when a raging fire broke out in the Thousand Buddha Hall. As the monks ran out of water and hesitated to destroy halls to stop the flames, Mo Wenjian arrived.

  • Master Xingshan warned that Mo Wenjian's swift progress toward Buddhahood could deprive Shaolin Temple of his presence, while Master Shanhui and others disagreed about persuading him to stay.
  • A warrior monk reported that the Thousand Buddha Hall was on fire, and the eminent monks hurried to the sacred complex.
  • Master Xingku explained that an eternal lamp had fallen and ignited stored lamp oil, causing the fire to spread rapidly through the halls.
  • Master Xingzhi and the other monks struggled to act because tearing down halls to make a firebreak seemed sacrilegious.
  • A warrior monk announced that the water supply had run out, and Mo Wenjian arrived as the monks were at their wits' end.

Ch. 20Human Strength Has Its Limits

Mo Wenjian used the Qi and Blood stored in his sarira to smother the fire engulfing the Thousand Buddha Hall. As Shaolin’s monks interpreted the blaze as a warning against selfishly keeping him from his path, Master Xingshan accepted a three-year punishment and experienced a breakthrough in his Buddhist understanding.

  • Mo Wenjian first tried using his own Qi and Blood to put out a burning hall, but the fire reignited when he withdrew it before the hall had cooled.
  • Master Xingshan urged Mo Wenjian to leave the flames, and Mo Wenjian resolved to help Shaolin with the Qi and Blood stored in his sarira.
  • Mo Wenjian released the sarira’s vast reserves of Qi and Blood, enveloping the entire Thousand Buddha Hall and extinguishing the fire.
  • Master Xingshan confessed that he had selfishly tried to keep Mo Wenjian at Shaolin and offered to spend the rest of his life in the Demon-Subduing Pagoda.
  • Master Shanhui rejected lifelong confinement and ordered Master Xingshan to face the wall in the Bodhidharma Cave for three years, while warning the monks to cultivate detachment.
  • Master Xingshan accepted the punishment, then departed with a transformed bearing that showed his Buddhist mastery had advanced.

  • Mo Wenjian attained that realm but found it wavering whenever evil thoughts arose in his heart.
  • Mo Wenjian encountered a warrior monk seeking revenge and realized that his own constraints made him feel like a puppet who could not act freely.

Ch. 22Dao Fruit - Shatter the Void and Behold the Indestructible Divine

Mo Wenjian received the life insights of a cultivator who created the Record of Supreme Forgetfulness of Emotion, perfected Three Flowers Gather at the Crown, and ascended. Ch. 23Ye Fan, Whose Parents Were Sacrificed to the Heavens

After realizing he could ascend whenever he wished, Mo Wenjian left the Shaolin Temple and met Ye Fan, the sole survivor of a family slaughtered by a corrupt prefect. Mo Wenjian agreed to make Ye Fan a lay disciple and let him choose three ultimate techniques, but forbade him from leaving Shaolin until he reached Dan Jin.

  • Mo Wenjian left the Shaolin Temple to explore the world and felt his state of mind change as he stepped outside.
  • Mo Wenjian found Ye Fan kneeling beside an old farmer and learned that Ye Fan sought martial arts to avenge his executed family.
  • The old farmer explained that he had rescued Ye Fan after the prefect framed and destroyed the Ye family.
  • Ye Fan insisted on revenge despite the old farmer urging him to preserve his family line and avoid Shaolin.
  • Mo Wenjian suspected Ye Fan might be the world’s child of destiny and offered to make him a lay disciple, with access to three ultimate techniques if he stayed at Shaolin until reaching Dan Jin.
  • Ye Fan accepted, and Mo Wenjian led him back to the temple.

Ch. 24Ye Fan, the True Son of Destiny

Mo Wenjian let Ye Fan choose three Shaolin martial arts, and Ye Fan selected the Heavenly Gang Thirty-Six Fists, the Vajra Indestructible Divine Art, and the Precept-Breaking Saber Technique. Mo Wenjian then simulated a future in which Ye Fan rose to power, avenged his family, and led the Righteous Path Alliance into a costly battle against the Qing forces.

  • Mo Wenjian brought Ye Fan to the Scripture Depository and allowed him to choose three manuals, excluding the Muscle-Tendon Changing Classic.

  • Mo Wenjian simulated the future and saw Ye Fan become a renowned Buddhist disciple, avenge his family, lead the Righteous Path Alliance, and kill numerous martial-world opponents.
  • In the simulation, Ye Fan's alliance fought the Qing forces for three days and nights; Ye Fan killed twenty-four Qing grandmasters before leading a breakout with the alliance's wounded.

Ch. 25Ye Fan's Road to Kingship and Supremacy

Ye Fan rose from a Shaolin fighter to the ruler of Southeast Asia and launched a campaign against the Great Qing Dynasty. After taking the Capital, he agreed to a nonaggression treaty that set Shanhai Pass as the border, then ordered the people of the Central Plains to abandon the queue and revive Han and Tang culture.

  • The Daoguang Emperor sent the Bordered Blue Banner's lord to Shaolin Temple to apologize to Ye Fan, but Ye Fan refused to give him Six-Revolution Golden Pills, and Master Xingdian left Shaolin with the lord.
  • Master Xingdian broke the Righteous Path Alliance's power, defeated Ye Fan in battle, and later fought him to a draw atop the Forbidden City; Ye Fan eventually wounded him and handed him over to Shaolin Temple for lifelong confinement.
  • Ye Fan rebuilt the Righteous Path Alliance, gathered more than three hundred grandmasters, and rejected the Daoguang Emperor's offer to make him King of Penglai before later accepting the lands of the Three Feudatories as King of the South.
  • Ye Fan expanded into Tianzhu and Southeast Asia, defeated the East India Company's allied forces, and spent years consolidating his rule across the region.
  • After the Daoguang Emperor died, Ye Fan invaded the Great Qing Dynasty, whose factions struggled over how to respond, and breached the Capital as the Xianfeng Emperor fled beyond Shanhai Pass.
  • Ye Fan signed a nonaggression treaty making Shanhai Pass the boundary and issued a decree forbidding the Central Plains' queue hairstyle, calling for a return to Han and Tang culture.

Ch. 26The Cultivation System of a Higher Mythological World
