Appearance
- His Wind Chime Bird Martial Soul manifests wings that he spreads for flight and folds away afterward 57 58.
- A faint current of air surrounds him during his introduction, when he sits on a high crossbeam above the training area 57.
Personality
Yu Feng is competitive and initially defensive about his weaknesses. After losing the entrance assessment, he blames the rule requiring him to descend every ten breaths. Yu Tianheng instead identifies his predictable timing and confidence that ground-based opponents could not affect him. Yu Feng similarly protests when Feng Xiaotian exposes his turning habits during training 58 63.
He frequently jokes with teammates and rivals, seeks recognition for successful maneuvers, and enjoys teasing others. His exchanges with Feng Xiaotian continue outside the arena, including an argument over the last piece of meat at a shared meal 63 64. Nevertheless, his competitive attitude becomes more measured: after the advancement tournament, he identifies knowing when to leave the stage—not forcing another victory—as a lesson learned 174.
He also challenges attempts to reduce teamwork to individual results. During the Soul Bone distribution debate, he argues that knockouts cannot adequately measure the Shi Brothers’ defense, Ye Lingling’s healing, or the positioning work that enables Yu Tianheng’s breakthroughs 213.
Abilities & Skills
Wind Chime Bird Flight
Yu Feng specializes in aerial movement, flanking attacks, and controlling opponents’ approach routes 58 120.
- Aerial maneuvering: Uses his wings and waist to change direction, adjusting airflow before committing to a turn 63 152.
- Route restriction: Narrows another flyer’s available paths with wing-generated wind, allowing ground teammates to prepare interceptions 63.
- Battlefield observation: Watches objectives from above and warns teammates about threats outside their immediate view 66 153.
- Ground-control avoidance: Defeats a Binding Vine Soul Master by remaining airborne, drawing out his skills, and diving when the main vine becomes exposed 174.
- Limits: Feng Xiaotian is faster and stronger in direct aerial exchanges. Yu Feng cannot reliably catch him in an ordinary pursuit 151 152.
Wind Attacks
Yu Feng uses wind blades and wing-generated gusts for harassment, interruption, and displacement 64 76 122.
- Interrupts a Fire Star support Soul Master’s skill with wind from his wings, briefly removing Blazing Fire’s flame amplification 64.
- Drives Zhu Zhuqing away from Ye Lingling despite an injured left wing 76.
- Controls his strength to push Ning Rongrong out of bounds rather than seriously injure her 76.
- Uses wind blades against exposed targets, including a dragon lizard’s eye and Blazing Fire’s rear-line attackers 122 150.
Airflow Feints
Yu Feng can deliberately create misleading flight cues rather than merely conceal his movement 63 112.
- Produces false airflow sounds to make Dong Jian incorrectly predict a turn 63.
- Directs wingbeats so that dust moves one way while he flies the other, exposing the limitations of ground-based perception 112.
- His own habits can still be read through shoulder movement, wing position, and preferred turning angles 63.
Aerial Formation Support
Yu Feng serves as a moving carrier for Li Man’s formation eyes, extending the team’s coordination into the air 73 112.
| Combination | Yu Feng’s contribution | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Dragon Bamboo Tremor Formation | Carries a Parasitic Bamboo Formation Eye through which Dong Jian transmits a shockwave, disrupting Shrek’s aerial approach 73 74. | The first node lasts only six breaths in practice; Ma Hongjun’s targeted flames make further aerial conduction difficult 77. |
| Poison repositioning | Moves an airborne node around Ma Hongjun’s Fire Line, carrying Dugu Yan’s poison into a position that interrupts his attack 76. | Requires coordination with Li Man and Dugu Yan rather than an independent poison ability 76. |
| Dragon Bamboo Calibration | Carries a wing-mounted marker that lets Dong Jian determine his general direction 112. | Does not reveal precise position or altitude. Excessive speed can break the formation eye 112. |
| Mobile Empty Formation | Acts as a moving anchor instead of relying on a fixed ground formation 130. | Moving connections have shorter range and less stability than grounded ones 130. |
| Temporary healing link | Repositions near Ye Lingling to reconnect a short formation route when Skywater cuts the healing line 155 156. | Depends on proximity and an available link, not a permanent formation 156. |
Dragon Bamboo Borrows the Air
Li Man’s temporary bamboo footholds give Yu Feng an additional turning point without replacing his flight 151 152.
- Initially pushes off too hard and shatters the foothold, though the movement still lets him evade Feng Xiaotian 152.
- Learns to touch the bamboo lightly and let his wings complete the directional change 152.
- Forces Feng Xiaotian to alter rescue routes, creating openings for the Imperial Fighting Team against Godwind’s grounded members 152.
- Footholds are brief, vulnerable to enemy attacks, and costly enough that Li Man cannot supply them freely 152 153.
Adapted Footwork
Dong Jian teaches Yu Feng to preserve his own mobility rather than copy a defensive fighter’s stance 163.
- A low stance slows his first step and places unnecessary weight on his legs 163.
- His suitable approach is to move first and carry the momentum of a grazing impact into his next step 163.
- Later testing still reveals transition risks: during a sharp turn, his landing ankle rotates inward too early, forcing his wing roots to compensate and tensing his shoulders and back 214.
Relationships
- Yu Tianheng — Captain. Challenges Yu Feng’s overconfidence in flight and directs his role within the team. Yu Feng later jokes that he has “won back” the captain’s defeat after beating a favorable opponent 58 174.
- Qin Ming — Teacher and coach. Insists that tactics accommodate Yu Feng’s speed rather than weaken it, but stops assessments when unsafe movement needs to be recorded 112 214.
- Dong Jian — Teammate and training partner. Their air-and-ground cooperation develops from flight-reading drills into coordinated interceptions; Dong Jian also helps him adapt movement principles to his own strengths 63 124 163.
- Li Man — Formation-support teammate. Supplies aerial nodes and temporary footholds, while Yu Feng’s movement extends her formations beyond fixed ground positions 73 112 152 156.
- Feng Xiaotian — Rival and training partner. Exposes Yu Feng’s habits and remains superior in speed, but eventually treats Yu Feng’s bamboo-assisted turns as a threat requiring dedicated countermeasures 63 151 152 153.
- Osler — Fellow agility attacker, covering the ground flank while Yu Feng covers the air. They consider traveling together for further training and share candidacy for the speed leg Soul Bone 120 211 214.
- Ye Lingling — Team healer. Monitors his Immortal Herb refinement and directs him to fold his wings while the medicine enters their bases 100.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Imperial Fighting Team Assessments
Yu Feng and Osler oppose Dong Jian and Li Man during their entrance assessment. Yu Feng attempts to exploit the edge of the arena to satisfy his mandatory descents without entering Dong Jian’s immediate range, but coordinated bamboo movement and tremors disrupt his flight. The newcomers retain the Swan badge until time expires and earn rotation places 57 58.
A subsequent practice match exposes a different weakness: conflicting orders from Li Man and Yu Tianheng leave Yu Feng hesitating between two directions. Similar communication failures later recur during Qin Ming’s formation-recovery assessments 59 121.
Inter-Academy Exchanges and Suotuo
Yu Feng trains with Dong Jian and Feng Xiaotian to connect aerial pressure with ground interception. He then joins the five-person lineup against Blazing Fire and participates in the imperial-palace flag contest as an aerial observer and objective defender 63 64 66.
Against Shrek in Suotuo, Oscar’s Flying Mushroom Sausage removes his team’s usual exclusive access to flight. Yu Feng becomes the carrier for an improvised aerial formation node, continues defending Ye Lingling despite wing damage, and eliminates Ning Rongrong by pushing her out of bounds. The Imperial Fighting Team wins narrowly 73 74 76.
Immortal Herb Treatment
Repeated high-speed turns leave Yu Feng with accumulated injuries and uneven wing performance. During an assessment requiring twenty-four consecutive turns, a pause appears at the base of his left wing from the thirteenth turn onward 95.
Narcissus Jade Muscle Bone repairs those minor injuries and improves balance between his wing roots. The treatment increases his Soul Power by three levels without producing the dramatic surge he initially expects 100.
Soul Master Tournament
| Phase | Role and outcome |
|---|---|
| Tournament opening | Competes in the traditional seven-member lineup, which wins without Dong Jian or Li Man 140. |
| Godwind match | Uses bamboo-assisted turns to obstruct Feng Xiaotian’s rescues while the team establishes a winning advantage on the ground 152 153. |
| Skywater match | Helps replace fixed formations with short, mobile links and temporarily reconnects Ye Lingling’s healing route 155 156. |
| Advancement tournament | Defeats the Binding Vine Soul Master who stopped Yu Tianheng, then voluntarily withdraws after failing to overcome a ranged attacker 174. |
| Spirit City finals | Pressures enemy Control System Soul Masters; his coordinated attack with Yu Tianheng forces one interference specialist to concede 179 185. |
| Championship final | Watches from the sidelines as the selected lineup faces Spirit Hall Academy 202. |
Post-Championship Plans and Soul Bone Assessment
After the championship, Yu Feng expresses interest in longer flights through complex air currents, citing how much he still has to learn from fighting Godwind. He and Osler agree that they could travel together for further training 211.
Both become candidates for the speed leg Soul Bone, but movement and recovery testing takes priority over a race or immediate allocation. Qin Ming stops Yu Feng’s sharp-turn test to record compensatory strain and cancels the following day’s speed contest to allow recovery. Yu Feng and Osler agree to further compatibility testing; the bone remains sealed and unassigned 214.
