Background / History

Childhood with Lu Guan

Yangyang grew up alongside Lu Guan and her older sister, Suisui. When the elders asked the young Lu Guan what kind of girl he wanted to marry, he answered that he wanted someone as gentle as Yangyang. She treasured the remark for years, treating it as a promise rather than a passing childhood answer 86.

Their childhood also established their combative relationship. After Lu Guan criticized the first song she learned, Yangyang chased him with a wooden sword. On another occasion, he plucked feathers from her hair while she was washing it to make a feather fan for his Resonance experiments. She pursued him with a sword and eventually kept the fan herself 3 32 86.

Yangyang later explained that retrieving the fan—not simply punishing him for plucking her feathers—had been her real motive for chasing him. She continued to regard it as a keepsake connected to her hopes for their future 85 86.

Journey to Jinzhou

After leaving her hometown, Yangyang traveled through several parts of Huanglong before settling in Jinzhou. She passed the Midnight Rangers’ assessment and became a Pioneer, privately hoping that establishing herself would allow her to be with Lu Guan openly 86.

Despite their quarrels, she remained attentive to him. When he enrolled at Stardust Academy, she sent a congratulatory letter and vacuum-packed Jinzhou pastries after hearing that the academy’s food was poor. She also invited him to visit Jinzhou, though he suspected she intended to take revenge by shaving his head 17.

Reunion at Gunchao Port

Yangyang took a day off to meet Lu Guan at Gunchao Port, accompanied by Chixia. She initially failed to recognize him because his hair had turned white. Their reunion quickly returned to familiar insults, complicated by his introduction of Dania as his girlfriend. Although the news hurt Yangyang, she welcomed Dania warmly and directed her barbed remarks at Lu Guan instead 30 31.

At Jinzhou’s gate, Baizhi’s detector repeatedly identified Lament energy on Dania. Yangyang briefly suspected that both visitors were disguised Tacet Discords and demanded proof of Lu Guan’s identity. His recollection of embarrassing childhood incidents convinced her, and she agreed to fetch Officer Taoqi before Changli arrived to resolve the situation 31 32.

Ambush in the Norfall Barrens

While scouting for General Jiyan, Yangyang discovered that a Tacet Discord horde was marching in organized formations. Following orders not to act rashly, she observed from concealment, but the horde’s frequencies disrupted her terminal communications. Before she could withdraw, coordinated ranged attacks exposed her position and blocked her escape 77.

Repeated breakout attempts failed, leaving her seriously injured. She was preparing to enter Overclocking for a final stand when Lu Guan arrived, opened a breach with Hollow Technique: Purple, and destroyed the horde with Malevolent Shrine. He treated her injuries and carried her back toward the Midnight Rangers’ camp 77 78.

When Lu Guan subsequently confronted Jué alone, Yangyang became distraught over his safety. Believing he might have died, she refused to leave with the logistics personnel. His return brought her to tears of relief—followed almost immediately by anger when he plucked another feather from her hair, prompting her to bite him 79 82.

Return to Jinzhou and the Childhood Promise

Jiyan approved Yangyang’s return to Jinzhou with Lu Guan so she could recuperate. During their journey, she briefly kissed Lu Guan and photographed it, intending to use the image as leverage by threatening to send it to his parents. When he grabbed her terminal, her bite caused him to send it to Yu Lan accidentally. Both families then interpreted the photograph as evidence of a romance 83 84.

Lu Guan’s subsequent kisses left Yangyang caught between her longstanding feelings and her sense of propriety. When he continued despite her objections, she attempted a knee strike, slapped him, and left angrily. She then sprained her ankle and had to be carried into Jinzhou 84 85.

Their argument eventually exposed the childhood remark she had cherished. At her home, Lu Guan recalled saying he wanted to marry someone like her, but described his present feelings as childhood-friend affection rather than love. Realizing that he understood her feelings and was still deliberately teasing her, Yangyang condemned him as an “inherently evil demon” 86.

Her composure is much less reliable around her cousin. Their exchanges bring out her temper, retaliatory streak, and occasional mischievousness: she threatens to report him to his parents, conceals how much the feather fan means to her, and uses Chixia’s coffee prank as leverage to keep that secret 30 31 83.

She dislikes showing weakness, insisting she can move despite serious injuries and denying pain during treatment. Her concern for Lu Guan nevertheless overrides her pride when he is in danger, revealing the affection beneath their habitual bickering 78 79 82 86.
