Breaking Off the Engagement
A stunning transition.
Carlotta was extremely efficient; she prepared a car full of gifts in no time.
Soon they arrived at the Daswei House's gate.
Kexi followed behind Carlotta, her mouth never stopping the whole way.
"Second sister, what should I say when we go in?"
"Just speak normally." Carlotta, her eyes fixed straight ahead.
"I understand."
Kexi cleared her throat.
"Once inside, I tried to be courteous first, then resorted to force."
I'll step forward and say, "Hello, Uncle Daswell."
He took a step forward, striking a pose like a refined gentleman.
"Kexi has come today with a request."
After saying that.
He jumped to the other side, pretending to be a middle-aged man with a full beard, and lowered his voice. "Nephew Kexi, please speak."
He jumped back to his original position, transformed back into himself, and bowed with great emotion:
"Back then, my parents acted impulsively and arranged a marriage between me and your daughter."
However, marriage is a serious matter that should be based on mutual affection.
Kexi entered the Mystic Sect at a young age, wholeheartedly devoted to the Dao and focused on cultivation, with no interest in romantic relationships.
Your daughter and I are now worlds apart; we are no longer a good match.
Today, Kexi dares to humbly request, Uncle, to dissolve this marriage agreement!
He then jumped to the other side, opened his mouth wide, and pretended to be shocked as if he had just heard the news from Uncle Darth Vader.
Then he jumped back to Carlotta and nudged her with his elbow:
"Then, Second Sister, you step forward and say, 'Uncle Darth Vader, my younger brother is now of noble status. Continuing this engagement would be embarrassing for both of us.'"
Montelli is willing to offer some money or valuables as compensation.
He became more and more enthusiastic as he performed.
"Then Uncle Dasway looked shocked, and then, seeing his daughter so humiliated, he jumped out in a fit of anger, pointed his finger at my nose, and said—"
Fortune changes every thirty years, so never underestimate a young woman's potential!
Kexi, the humiliation you suffered by announcing our engagement today will be repaid in the future!
Three years later, atop Mount Hua, we'll settle our score again!
"Finally, Second Sister, you mocked her for overestimating herself, and then I stepped forward—"
Carlotta finally lost her temper and jumped up to hit his knee.
"You fucking talk to me properly!"
"Ouch! That hurts—" Kexi hugged her knee and jumped up and down several times. "Second sister, isn't that what the book says?"
"We're not villains, okay?! You idiot!" Carlotta flushed red, whether from anger or from being tired of jumping up and hitting him earlier, it was hard to tell.
Kexi was rubbing her knee and about to retort when a voice floated down from the steps in front of her.
Are you Brother Kexi?
It was a lively, girlish voice, carrying a hint of tentative anticipation, like the first birdsong of spring.
Kexi raised her head and looked in the direction of the sound.
The newcomer was dressed in a pretty pink dress and, Aemeath, only much smaller and looked incredibly cute.
When Carlotta saw the newcomer, she looked on with an expression of anticipation.
"Do you know me?" Kexi looked at the delicate figure on the steps, quickly searching her memory to confirm that she had no recollection of the girl.
She looked even smaller than Aemeath, barely reaching his eye level when standing on the steps, resembling a delicate porcelain doll.
"It really is you, Brother Kexi." The girl's eyes curved into two crescent moons, her voice filled with barely suppressed joy.
"Um, who are you? I really don't know you."
"Me? I'm Danika." She pointed to the tip of her nose, her tone so natural that it seemed the name itself explained everything.
"Huh??? Danika?" Kexi's voice suddenly rose half a tone.
Danika's here too? Could it be that she's his marriage partner?
"Don't you recognize me? When we were little, you loved playing with me the most, and you even said you'd marry me when you grew up. I've been waiting for you all this time."
Danika tilted her head to look at him, her hair swaying gently with her movements, her eyes filled with a kind of cautious expectation.
"Uh, haha, really? I don't remember, sorry." Kexi chuckled awkwardly.
He really didn't know.
It's not that I'm pretending not to remember.
Christopher probably wrote a childhood sweetheart story for him when he wrote the script, but that story only exists in Danika's memory, not his.
He felt like he'd been pulled onto the stage as an extra, while his co-star was reciting his lines with great emotion, and he hadn't even seen the cover of the script.
Danika's face paled for a moment.
That moment was so brief, so brief, that if Kexi hadn't happened to be staring at her face, she wouldn't have noticed it at all.
Then she quickly resumed her smile, a smile just as sweet as before, but Kexi felt something flash in her eyes, too quickly for him to grasp.
"It's okay, I remember." Kexi, we can start over. Don't stand outside, come in.
Danika turned and led the way, her steps as light as a fledgling bird that had just learned to fly.
Kexi followed behind, glanced back at the carriage at the door and the servants carrying the gifts, and her lips twitched again.
Danika clearly noticed the overflowing gifts. She slowed her pace, turned back to look at the silks, elixirs, and gleaming gold chests, and her eyes lit up.
"What are you doing at my house? Bringing so many things. Are these betrothal gifts?" Her voice was tinged with shyness and anticipation, her eyelashes fluttering.
"Well, haha, you'll see in a bit." Kexi's smile froze on her face.
He lagged half a step behind, leaned close to Carlotta's ear, and whispered, "Why didn't you tell me she knew me?"
Carlotta, without looking at him, spoke in a flat tone as if reciting a menu, "Weren't you two very close since childhood? How could you fall for someone else? What do I have to say?"
Kexi was so choked by those words that she almost couldn't catch her breath.
He stared at Carlotta's calm face, internally wanting to say a million things—what does it mean to have a close relationship since childhood?
That was written by Christopher! It's fake! He didn't even know Danika!
But he couldn't say it aloud, so he could only swallow it back silently, holding his anger inside until he looked like a bloated pufferfish.
Danika pushed open the hall door, turned back and smiled at them, "My grandfather happens to be inside too."
The hall was more spacious than the living room in the Montelli Family, with several faded oil paintings hanging on the walls, and sunlight streaming in from the high windows, drawing bright squares on the floor.
In the very center, an elderly man with white hair sat in a grand chair, looking down at a yellowed sheet music.
He heard footsteps, looked up, and saw a face that Kexi knew all too well.
Kexi's brain completely shut down at that moment.
"Mr. Rosinante?"
"Young man, who are you?" Rosinante put down the sheet music, pushed up his reading glasses, and looked him over with a gentle but puzzled gaze.
Danika ran to her grandfather, leaned close to his ear, and said loudly, "Grandpa, this is Brother Kexi." Then she straightened up, her tone slightly reproachful, "How come you don't even remember him?"
"Oh--it's Kexi." Rosinante nodded in sudden realization, a kind smile spreading across his wrinkled face. "It's been so many years, I didn't recognize you at first glance. Come, come, have a seat."
Kexi sat down mechanically.
His brain was still processing what was happening before him.
Rosinante is the old man Dasvi in this world, Danika's grandfather, and the person he wants to annul his engagement with.
I suspect he, like Yaoyue, was also controlled by Christopher.
"My nephew has been cultivating with the immortal for many years, and has been missing ever since. Why have you suddenly come to visit today?" Rosinante stroked his beard, his tone carrying the leisure and gentleness characteristic of an old man.
Kexi took a deep breath.
Regardless, the things that need to be done still need to be done.
He stood up, straightened his clothes, and gave Rosinante a solemn bow.
"Luo--uh, Grandpa Darth Vader."
"Kexi has come to my door today with a request."
Rosinante nodded slightly, signaling him to continue.
Kexi straightened up, glancing at Danika standing to the side out of the corner of her eye.
She was tilting her head to look at him, her pupils filled with something he couldn't quite understand.
He banished the image from his mind and refocused on Rosinante's face.
"Back then, our parents acted impulsively and arranged a marriage between their son and your daughter."
However, marriage is a major life event, and it should be based on mutual affection.
I entered Mystic Sect Xuanmen sect at a young age, wholeheartedly devoted to the Dao and aspiring to cultivate myself.
Now that your daughter and I are no longer on the same path, forcing us to continue this agreement would be unfair to both of us.
Moreover, the younger generation's heart already belongs to another.
Today, I humbly request that Grandpa Darth Vader dissolve this marriage agreement.
